Music Festival 2021 Annual Report
The Ying Quartet performed together for the first time since March in a concert livestreamed from David Ying’s living room on July 3, 2020.
An Unforgettable Season Dear Friends, 2021 was an unforgettable summer season. As a Festival community we met every challenge of the past two years by continuing to make music and asserting our commitment to our educational mission. With the help of Bowdoin College for COVID testing and safety protocols, more than 200 students along with 50 artist faculty were able to perform, rehearse, teach, coach, and engage with each other in person for the full six weeks of our summer season. For almost everyone, this was the first in-person music experience without distancing and without masks after nearly 15 months. The renewed joy, energy, passion, and exuberance around our shared music-making made a lasting impression on all of us. We are thankful that many of you joined us from near and far for our virtual concerts. We livestreamed more than 85 hours of music by our faculty, guest artists, and amazing young musicians from Studzinski Hall with a record 61,100 views. Though we missed feeling the presence of our usual audience, your continued encouragement and engagement, even virtually, means so much. Your faithful dedication and loyal support of our mission inspires us. With 86 first-time donors and a record number of student sponsors, we celebrate the generous spirit of our growing Festival family. To a brighter and brighter future full of beautiful music,

1,895 COVID tests taken, 548 Festival masks and 275 bottles of hand sanitizer given out, 62 tubs of sanitizing wipes distributed to studios across campus.

DID SOMEONE SAY GOAT YOGA? Hannah MacLean concentrates on her warrior pose while hanging out with a new friend. The Residence Life Team planned all outdoor trips this summer to ensure safe activities, including two Goat Yoga outings, a resounding student favorite. Statement of Financial Position As of October 31, 2021 (estimated, unaudited) The Festival remains in a strong financial position despite the challenges presented by COVID. We were fortunate to have an inperson Festival, yet limited the number of students due to COVID policies and restrictions. There were also no public concerts or resulting ticket revenue. However, through strong community support, grants, and investments, we ended our year with an increase in net assets.
