As we head into fall, we’re reflecting on a summer filled with energy, progress, and community spirit throughout our parks and programs. This summer marked a major milestone with the groundbreaking of the Strawberry Hill Bike Park at Strawberry Hill Park. Years of planning and community support have culminated in construction now underway on what will become a premier space for riders of all ages and abilities. Thanks to the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation and generous donors, we’re closer than ever to opening this dynamic new feature.
Our planning team has been out in the community this summer gathering input for the 2026 Comprehensive Plan Update. Thank you to everyone who participated in surveys and open houses, and gave input at our community booths and online forums—your feedback is essential.
This fall, we’ll begin shaping that input into a long-range roadmap for the future of our parks and programs. Stay tuned for more opportunities to get involved as we move into the next phase of the process.
At the Ray Williamson Pool, Phase 1 of the rehabilitation project is nearing completion, and we will soon be able to open the facility. Phase 1 upgrades included new gutters, modern mechanical systems, and essential repairs that ensure the facility remains safe, efficient, and ready to serve swimmers for years to come. The pool will remain open through approximately spring 2026, after which it will close for Phase 2 of construction. Stay tuned for updates as we finalize the construction timeline.
Meanwhile, 43 incredible youth participants went a little “SCOCO-Nuts” this season as part of the Student Conservation Corps (SCOCO). This also included SCOCO Neurodiverse participants, who engaged in a meaningful, enriching summer session designed specifically for youth with diverse needs. This inclusive, hands-on program gave teens of all abilities the chance to tackle invasive species and support restoration projects across more than a dozen parks. If you spotted the team in their bright green shirts, you saw youth employment in action—building stewardship and pride in our island’s natural spaces. We’re deeply grateful to our partners at the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation, Bainbridge Island Land Trust, and the City of Bainbridge Island for making this program possible.
Recently renamed, Terry’s Sounds of Summer concert series, has seen large attendance and the Movies in the Park are a hit once again. Thousands gather at Battle Point Park this summer to enjoy live music, family-friendly films, and good food in the open air. These events remind us of the simple joy of sharing summer evenings with neighbors and friends.
Looking ahead, fall brings the return of the beloved Haunted Hayride at Battle Point Park—an annual tradition full of eerie surprises and community creativity. We hope you’ll join us for the fun! Tickets are on sale with fall registration, so be sure to grab them while you can. Thank you for continuing to support and participate in the life of our parks. We can’t wait to see what the seasons ahead bring.
See you out there,

Dan Hamlin Executive Director

REGISTRATION FOR RESIDENTS: Tuesday, August 12 at 12:00p
REGISTRATION FOR NON-RESIDENTS: Thursday, August 14 at 12:00p
Register any time of day! Your registration is processed immediately, and you can print your confirmation and receipt. Online registration is by far the best way of getting the classes you want. You will need your username and password to complete the registration process. If you can’t remember your account information, click forgot password or call the customer service desk at least one day before registration begins at 206-842-2302.
Please note that on registration day, we do experience high volumes of calls. Please be patient with our customer service staff.
Nonresident Participants: We welcome non-residents to participate in our programs. A non-resident fee of $10 will apply to each class.
Contractor classes are programs offered through agreements with independent businesses or instructors who provide specialized instructional services. These contractors are responsible for their own staff, curriculum, insurance, licensing, and compliance with any Park District requirements. In this catalog, contractor-led classes are clearly marked with “CONTRACTOR” at the end of the class description.
Program Discounts: The Park District partners with Helpline House to make participation in our programs accessible to residents with limited resources. Full or partial fee scholarships are available for most Park District recreation activities, programs and memberships for qualified families and individuals. To apply, contact Helpline House at 206-842-7621.
IFS Waiver Assistance Program: Developmental Disabilities Administration, with assistance from the WA State Department of Social and Health Services, offers Individual and Family Services (IFS) Basic Plus or Core Waivers for individuals who require waiver services to remain in the family home. While the Park District does not contract directly with the state for these waivers, we have established a program within the same parameters.
For either assistance program, please give at least two weeks’ advance notice to the case manager so they can process the request before registration. Most programs take one to two weeks, depending on the program or activity.
The Park District strives to provide opportunities for people of all abilities to participate and interact in recreational activities with dignity. To that end, the Park District seeks to make reasonable accommodations to its policies, procedures, and programs to assist individuals with special needs in participating in Park District activities, programs, and services. Although the Park District will make every reasonable effort to meet specific needs, unfortunately, not all accommodation requests can be granted. The Park District evaluates each request on a case-by-case basis.
How to get started:
• Register for the classes or activities in which you wish to participate. Please ensure that you meet the program requirements to register for the activity. For example, you are the appropriate age and meet the prerequisites.
• During registration, please select, “yes” when asked, does the individual participating in the activity request an accommodation(s); if yes is selected, a Park District staff member will reach out directly for more information. Those requesting an accommodation can also reach out to info@biparks.org to request an accommodation. The Park District requests two weeks’ notice before the first activity date to determine whether reasonable accommodation is possible.

Staff reserves the right to refuse participation if a bike is deemed unfit, non-functional or if staff have safety concerns.
