INTRODUCTION The Batangas Commercial Complex (BCC), from its former name of development, Batangas Provincial Livelihood Center, has its improved its amenities, responding to the needs of its immediate environment, thus, responding to the concept of ecocentrism as well. Through the concept of ecocentrism and the multi-faceted nature of sponges, the BCC is adapting the two aspects’ characteristics to form and integrate a unifying concept that translates on its comprehensive design:

The Nature of People – connotes to the social aspect of ecocentrism that implies that architecture is a process of designing spaces that responds to the needs of its people, how will they interact within it, and how the building would be feasible to the people.

The nature of its environment – divided into two categories, natural environment and physical environment. Natural environment refers to all that is nature, its ecological setting, and natural repercussions behind where it is situated; Physical environment refers to everything that was made by man – the community that surrounds the space, the commercial and institutional facilities near the area. This two must be mutually coexisting well to provide a more feasible redevelopment such as the BCC.

Lastly, the nature of its economy, referring to the political and economic standing of the place, this aspect is crucial and essential to every development as money runs through architecture, and architecture can be a catalyst for the flourishing of a place’s economy.
