’ve been a professional designer ever since I started my own stationery business when I was in elementary school. My mother would bring me old office supplies – obsolete letterhead and address labels – from her job and I would staple together notepads and hand-draw stickers for my family and friends. Today, I design much more than notepads and stickers. I design animation, billboards, books, digital media, favicons, gizmos, gadgets, hang tags, packaging, posters, and wayfinding systems. And anything else that the modern world asks me to dream up. BRANDING. Modern logos are more than just the simple doodles I drew when I was a fifth-grader. They are precision cogs that operate in the machinery of the communications world. They must follow global standards of cultural sensitivity and language. And they must be beautiful.

PUBLICATIONS. Regularly scheduled, intentional communications vehicles – blog, vlog, email, print, or posting – should be designed to serve both their publisher’s and audience’s wants and needs. That’s what I do. PRODUCTS. I work with

manufacturers, retailers, and distributors to exploit opportunities in markets and materials. I’ve designed best-sellers in magazines, e-commerce, packaging, and awards and recognition. WHEN A NEW CLIENT CALLS, I begin with research. I study the company’s audience, product line, competitive positioning, and ambitions for the future. I also take in the company (and company founder’s) personality and culture for flavor and inspiration. The next step is to define questions to be answered and goals to be achieved: Who do we want to sell to? What do we want to say? Where do we want messages to appear?

What feelings do we want to evoke? After much hard work, the result is a problem solved, a product launched, and a brand renewed with confidence, clarity, and class. THIS BOOK CONTAINS some of my favorite work over a career spanning more than 20 years. Some are simple, some are complex. Some are for launches, some are for long-established businesses, and some are for ideas that never made it past the pitch stage. As you flip through these pages, it is my wish that you see – and feel – the ambition, intelligence, hopes, and dreams of the enterprises and audiences that I have served.
