By CHARITY DEWING • cdewing@billingsgazette.com This is the first in a four-part series of Parade of Homes, brought to you by the Billings Gazette and the Home Builders Association of Billings. For the following three weeks, The Billings Gazette’s “Your Home” section will feature the design work of some of the city’s top construction companies and the homes that have been selected for this year’s Parade of Home selection. There was resemblance to this year’s parade homes – a collective consciousness to reconnect to Montana roots. Construction and design focused on farm life, calling it “Contemporary Rustic” or “Mountain Modern” – and why not? The connection to a simple life with the modern upgrades that accommodate the alwaysevolving technological world we live in creates harmony – perhaps a more needed concept now more than ever.
and LED water features; a full wine and liquor bar; a hibachi grill; and family theater room. The design echoes the landscape of the Rimrocks, offering rustic appeal throughout the home like Hickory hardwood floors, a barn-door entrance to the office and White Oak cabinets in the kitchen. Why travel for a relaxing getaways when home can be where your heart and soul find sanctuary.
Set against the landscape of open blue sky, golden wheat farmland, away from the city lights, these homes take us away from the overly-contemporary and industrial design work of the early to mid-2000’s and back to a time that, for many of us, echoes our childhood in rural Montana.
Todd Brown of Brown Builders calls his design “Modern Farm,” blending fresh design concepts with farm allure. White alder wood cabinets and golden brown white oak hardwood provide that farm-style feel. Real wool carpet on the stairs contrasts beautifully against custom-made stair railing crafted by dark and stainless-steel cables, exemplifying the balance of classic and contemporary. The really captivating part of the home is the incredible 20 foot, floor-to-ceiling white, marble-like stone fireplace. It is the epitome of jaw-droopingly awesome.
All about antiquity. McCall Homes presented a new build in the always-growing Annafeld Subdivision. Located at 6022 Norma Jean, the home summons the charm of an old Southern farmhouse with its large sit-in front porch, complete with pillars and tall framework with white siding. With all of the comforts of a modern home, including a theatre room and wet bar, the enchanting blend of old and new finds a perfect balance.
Rooted in Montana. McFadden Construction embraced their own personal origins and Montana customs by implementing the natural elements of Big Sky country. Geological components like quartz, cultured stone, knotty alder wood, and earthy paint tones offer an environmental feel of connecting to the outdoors. This home is also for the equestrian. There is plenty of room to ride and adore horses at the indoor riding arena while the outdoor arena and pasture allows the horses to get close to the house, creating a family experience between horse and owner.
Image Builders wanted to embrace tradition in the design work at 6328 Amen Corner Lane by saying goodbye to the totally open-floor concept – Hello privacy! While the kitchen and living space have a cohesive flow, the dining is set apart, offering a more formal experience. Bedrooms are also tucked away, offering children and parents a place to find solace, rather than feel on-display. It’s time to think outside of the “open-concept” box – sorry, not HD Building and Production Consulting is creating homes in sorry. the rural living in the Bar 11 Subdivision. The area is a perfect blend of rural living while just outside of the hustle of Billings Mountain Time – and the livin’ is easy. Ban Construction Heights – it is country living 2.0. Stone, cedar, metal, and wood has done it again. The home at 4825 Diamond Falls Road is the siding add to the rustic atmosphere. essential rustic staycation that you will never want to leave. The home features 62 Pella windows – really bringing the outside in; an incredible swimming pool with lounging areas, grill, fire pit contined on page 5
