These are simply two separate images, juxtaposed: there is a narrative link (the mother is pointing out the flag to the child), but the meaning of these two shots—the emotion their juxtapositioning evokes—is something larger and more abstract than either shot can contain by itself.

Georgia was ruled by Soviet and Russia throughout their past, large amount of architecture was built for development during that time. Most of them were either demolished or abandoned, only few of them are still in use.

Iveria Hotel, Tbilisi, Georgian Soviet Republic 1960
In the 1960s, a large hotel was built as the prime hotel in the capital, Tbilisi of the then Georgian Soviet Republic. When Georgia became independent, and relations with Russia became strained, Tbilisi’s tourism came to a sudden halt. But it wasn’t long until the Iveria hotel found a new, rather surprising purpose as a refugee camp.

Until the Rose Revolution in 2003 and the resignation of president Shevardnadze that the situation of the refugees of the Iveria Hotel changed. In 2004, they were relocated to the suburbs of Tbilisi, and the hotel was completely refurbished. In 2008, the hotel reopened as a luxury hotel under its new moniker Radisson Blu Iveria.

Lead the “Rose Revolution” with his political allies in 2003, become President of Georgia in 2004. In 2011 Proposed a Deep sea port project in Lazika (south to Anaklia), and a promenade connect to the border of Abkhazia (North to Anaklia) as a vision to reclaim Abkhazia. The project was largely abandoned after his party’s defeat in Georgia’s parliamentary election against the Georgian Dream coalition led by the tycoon Bidzina Ivanishvili.

After the 2013 presidential election, he voluntarily resigned both his government and party positions, naming his long-time personal assistant Irakli Gharibashvili as his successor. Benefits from Law of Georgia “On Privatization of State-owned Property”, in March 2012, Ivanishvili was ranked at number 153 in Forbes magazine’s annual list of the world’s billionaires with an estimated worth of $6.4 billion, making him Georgia’s richest person.

The Russo-Georgian War was a war between Georgia, Russia and the Russian-backed self-proclaimed republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The war took place in August 2008 following a period of worsening relations between Russia and Georgia, both formerly constituent republics of the Soviet Union. The fighting took place in the strategically important Transcaucasia region. It was regarded as the first European war of the 21st century.

The status of Abkhazia is a central issue of the Georgian–Abkhazian conflict and Georgia–Russia relations. Georgia’s loss control of Abkhazia due to their civil war in 1992–1993. Despite the 1994 ceasefire agreement and years of negotiations, the dispute remains unresolved. In August 2008, Abkhaz forces fought against Georgian forces during the Russo-Georgian War, which led to the formal recognition of Abkhazia by Russia.
