Logistic of Death & Memory MArchD, Oxford Brookes University Supervisor: Ms Charlotte Grace, Ms Maria Alexandrescu Site Location: Anaklia, Georgia Project Nature: Cemetery & Crematorium for Georgian There are no existing crematorium in Georgia right now. Orthodox as the main religion of Georgia, Orthodox Church, the stated faith of most Georgians, plays a key role in Georgia furial tradition. Although the Bible does not specifically forbid cremation, Orthodox Christians believe that burning a body contradicts Christianity’s message of resurrection after death. But the price for traditional burial services in Georgia is 20 times higher than cremation. The Project is to build the First Crematorium in Georgia by using the infrastructure developed by the First Deep Sea Port in the country. From the port – city – river, framing the melancholy scenery and by the gesture of crossing the river to get to the crematorium to create a ritual of remembrance as collective memory. Moreover, using the logistic infrastructure provided by the port development, contradicting the sacred space with the industrial and logistical spaces to evoke fascination of Anaklia’s future with the port development. By the transformation from death to collective memory, mark a columbarium as an unchanged territory and monument on the river island. Master Plan of Crematorium Design

Ritual that transform individual memory into collective memory

Alboraya Bathhouse & Brewery MArchD, Oxford Brookes University Supervisor: Dr Julia Wedel, Mr Sam Woodbridge, Mr Matt Gaskin Site Location: Alboraya, Valencia, Spain Project Nature: Community Hub for Locals & Tourist Most of the local farmers in Valencia are small farm holder are unfavored in most of the situation and policy. Such as low is financial budget and expense from the city council, organic certification, food safety, change of shopping habits and marketing or EU commission fertilizer policy. In the mean time, over half of the farming land is on small farm holders(0-5 HA) hands but they only utilized 4% of it. On the other hand, large farm holders(>50HA) hold only 10% of land but utilized 71% of it. It somehow explains why small farm earns less in Spain is because they didn’t utilize the farmland. This is a research led regeneration project using the ruined traditional farm house “Alqueria” as a anchor to start a social hub for uniting local farmers. At the same time to promotie the local farming industry by letting tourist experiencing the production process of the most famous farming product “Chufa” in town.

The historical footprint showing that there is some destroyed structure within the existing structure.

Hypothesis 1: A small barn attached to the side and a big covered courtyard based on the leftover wall structure.

Hypothesis 2: Same as 1 but the courtyard was just half coved based on the Alqueria document. This hypothesis seems more feasible since there is a tree in the opened half courtyard currently.

Regeneration Design Based on existing structure
