Blanks

Square and circle sheets of glass that range in size from 3” up to 24” square. Primarily used as a base layer for all glass projects.

Stringers

17 1/2” round sticks, similar to angel hair pasta. Sold in 5 oz. tubes.

Odd Cuts

Various sized scraps of glass.

Sold in 1 lb. & 5 lb. bags.

Slab Blanks

Rectangular sheets of glass that are 12” x 6”.

CutUpsTM Blocks

2 1/2” x 6” rectangles.

Sold 10 per case.

Pre cut shapes that are impossible to cut by hand, and extremely difficult to cut with a saw. Sold Individually.

Dichroic Glass

Strips

1/2” x 12” rectangle strips.

Sold 20 per case.

This glass is beautiful to look at and is usually used as accent pieces in projects. Dichroic glass will give an oil in water appearance, changing colors depending on the viewing angle.

Bits

1/2” x 1/2” squares.

Sold in 1/2 lb. jars.

Buffalo ChipsTM

Small pieces of glass that vary in size from coarse frit to the size of a quarter. Sold in 8 oz. and 20 oz. containers.

Carolina Frit

Ground and tumbled glass pieces available in three sizes: Fine, Medium & Coarse. Sold in 8 oz. jars. Some colors available in 5 lb. bulk.

The “T” stands for “Transition,” so named because it is often produced during the shift from one product to another in manufacturing.

System 96 “T-Glass” is always 100% tested-compatible, devit-resistant, excellent-cutting, and otherwise top-performing fusible glass. It will, however, be outside of the tolerances for surface texture, seeds, color hue, mix, or density.

Most surface imperfections will disappear in the fusing process. If you wish to retain them for effect, fuse at lower temperatures using shorter hold times. The more heat your project gets (the more “full” the fuse), the more an imperfect surface will heal. Avoid “T-Glass” where it is critical that you be able to replicate glass color from one project to the next.

Simple Oval Slump

Mold Size: 10” x 4” x 1.25”

These ceramic molds are designed specifically for slumping glass and have pre-drilled holes.

A great feature of these molds is the breather holes on the sides of the molds that allow air to move around the bottom of the mold for even heating, as well as allow air to escape from the mold while the glass is slumping. Molds need to be primed with Primo Primer or Glass Separator before firing to prevent the glass from sticking to the mold.

Bisque for Slumping

The most cost effective way to slump glass is to use the bisque that you already have in your studio. The following pages feature bisque shapes that we feel are great for slumping glass. This is by no means a definitive list. There are many more bisque shapes that can be used. When selecting bisque for slumping, keep in mind that the top of the bisque will be the bottom of the slumped piece, so make sure it is level to reduce the chance of wobbling.

The less steep the sides, the better. There are just two easy steps that must be performed before these shapes can be used for slumping. One, holes need to be drilled to allow air to escape from under the glass while it slumps. We recommend 3/16” or 1/8” holes. See page 40 for tips and techniques on drilling. Two, just like regular slump molds, the bisque needs to be primed to keep the glass from sticking to the mold.

Holes should be drilled in bisque to allow air to release while the glass is slumping. To avoid cracking or uneven slumping it is important to drill holes in any bisque piece that you use to slump glass. TO DRILL: Position the holes evenly on the surface of the bisque. The number of holes to drill depends on the size of the piece. Use the chart above as a guide while you’re starting out. Also, if the bisque piece has a foot, file the foot in several places to create an air channel to help air escape from under the glass. Remember to drill slowly.
