Our fundraiser, “Love Us and We’ll Love You Back”, will be happening on: Sunday 28th June from 8am to 4pm.

Every day, we bring you local voices, great music, community news, and programs you won’t hear anywhere else.

But we can only keep doing this with your support.

We are asking for donations and your support to keep 102.7 FM strong, independent, and on the air.

Show us some love, and we’ll love you back with the music, the programs and the services you value every day.

All donations are tax deductible. (Note here: this is because we are a registered charity) We’d love you to join us on Sunday June 28 to donate and support your community radio.

We’ll start the day with a Jukebox Sunday Special Edition with John Callaghan and continue through until 4pm with music, giveaways and a chance to hear from our announcers and sponsors.

Profile Chapter III Toowoomba’s Pioneering Rock Legends Long before streaming services and social media transformed the music industry, local bands relied on talent, determination and countless hours on the road to build a following.

One of Toowoomba's most successful and influential bands of the 1960s was Chapter III, a group that helped put regional Queensland music on the national stage.

The origins of Chapter III can be traced back to the early 1960s when the band first formed under the name "The Defenders." Made up of a group of talented young musicians from Toowoomba, the band quickly developed a strong local following through performances across the Darling Downs and beyond.

Their energetic performances and contemporary sound captured the spirit of a generation embracing the rapidly changing music scene of the decade.

Seeking greater opportunities, the group travelled to New Zealand in 1965, where they performed extensively and supported international acts including British stars Sandie Shaw and The Pretty Things.

During their time overseas, the band attracted the attention of recording industry representatives and recorded material that helped establish their growing reputation.

Upon returning to Australia, the band adopted the name Chapter III and soon became one of the most popular bands in regional Queensland.

They dominated the entertainment scene across the Darling Downs and regularly performed throughout Queensland.

Their growing success led to appearances on television and performances alongside some of Australia's most recognised musical acts.

One notable highlight was backing the Bee Gees during a 4GR Cabaret Summer Spectacular in 1966.

Chapter III also ventured into recording, releasing several singles that showcased the band's original sound and musical versatility. Songs such as "Fool," "Just Can't Live Without You," and "Please Do Something" demonstrated their ability to blend the influences of British and Australian rock music into a distinctive style that resonated with audiences of the time.

A major milestone came in 1969 when Chapter III became the first regionally based band to reach the Melbourne grand final of the prestigious Hoadley's Battle of the Sounds competition.

At a time when most successful Australian bands emerged from major cities such as Sydney and Melbourne, this achievement was a remarkable accomplishment and a source of great pride for Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.

Profile Although the band disbanded in the early 1970s, their influence on the local music scene has endured. Many of the members continued to contribute to music and entertainment, while the band's legacy became part of Toowoomba's rich cultural history. Over the years, Chapter III has reunited for special performances, delighting audiences with the music that made them local legends. Their continued popularity is reflected in reunion concerts and community events that celebrate the band's remarkable contribution to Australian music.

Today, Chapter III remains a symbol of what can be achieved through talent, perseverance and community support.

Their story is not only one of musical success but also a reminder that regional communities like Toowoomba have long produced artists capable of competing on the national stage.

More than fifty years after they first began performing, Chapter III continues to be remembered as one of the Darling Downs' most significant and beloved musical acts.
