INTENSIVE HOME TREATMENT SERVICE

The Intensive Home Treatment service (IHTT) formerly known as the Intensive Recovery and Intervention Service (IRIS) has undergone recent service development and change. The name change is not the only service improvement made.

Clinical assessment by a registered clinician can now be delivered across all hours of operation in all IHTT services across the Nottinghamshire and Bassetlaw footprint. The service is inclusive of medical input providing medical leadership and support for all patients referred into the service. The service has a multi-disciplinary approach and the team consists of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, occupational therapists and physiotherapists, as well as a number of community support workers who provide mental health care and support. The service aims to avoid unnecessary admission to an acute or mental health setting; it aims to optimise successful discharges, preventing avoidable deterioration whilst promoting a positive return to health wellbeing and activities of daily living. Recent changes have seen the creation of an ageless pathway to transform mental health care for our older population by making it easier and quicker for older people to access mental health care 365 days per year. The Mental Health Services for Older People Directorate has worked with Adult Mental Health (AMH) colleagues in designing a crisis pathway which aligns the two services and ensures equitable access to the crisis service for all patients inclusive of those over the age of 65, meaning a quicker response to older adults who are experiencing mental health crisis. The development of the new ageless crisis pathway will now enable older adults who are experiencing acute mental health distress to access the crisis service within 4-24 hours of referral to services.

The service operates over 7 days from 8am to 8pm daily, 365 days per year
