Clubs & Organizations This week in Clubs and Orgs

Greetings from the Golf Pro Shop! Clubhouse 2024 will be an exciting year for Golf at Big Canoe, but I would be remiss if I did not point out a couple of things that happened in 2023 that involved our golf team members. First is Director of Operations Lydell Mack, who was honored by his peers in the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America as Georgia’s Superintendent of the Year! Serving a professional organization is a labor of love as it is a volunteer position, but Lydell is dedicated to growing the game of golf and spreading awareness of the agronomic side of the business through his roles in the GCSAA. His colleagues in that organization chose him for their highest honor, and we are lucky to have Lydell here at Big Canoe. Also in 2023, Big Canoe’s own Joan Delk harkened back to her playing days on the LPGA Tour to qualify for the 2023 Senior Women’s US Open that was held in August at Waverley Country Club in Portland, Oregon. Joan represented Big Canoe well through the qualifying tournaments and in the championship. We are lucky to have such an experienced player and teacher as part of our golf team at Big Canoe. We look forward to watching for Joan’s name on more Senior Women’s Tournaments in 2024. This year brings the rejuvenation of the Choctaw-9 golf course, which will update the drainage, irrigation, and putting surfaces of the greens. Choctaw is scheduled to close for play on March 1st . This means we will have an 18-hole course available for play. For anyone who plays golf regularly and isn’t currently a golf amenity member, I would encourage you to contact Membership Director Stacy Anthony to join before March 1st to ensure access to 14-day tee time booking privileges, and she might even have an incentive or two for those who sign up before that date. A new incentive for 2024 is our Accompanied Guest Round Punch Card which allows golf amenity members the opportunity to pre-purchase guest rounds for the year and save 31% on the cost of those rounds. See page ?? for the details on this exciting benefit for amenity members. We have confirmed the construction timeline with the contractor doing the work on Choctaw and have finalized our dates for what one junior golfer last year called the “Fun-nest week of the year!” There will be 3 Junior Golf Camps in the summer of 2024. Details, along with the sign-up links, are in this edition of Big Canoe Living. I wouldn’t delay signing up, as camps historically fill up fast. I feel blessed and honored to serve our golf community here at Big Canoe, and I look forward to an exciting 2024 with our amazing team in golf. I hope to see you all on the fairways and greens,

Mike Miller, PGA Head Golf Professional
