KICKING OFF SUMMER KICKING OFF SUMMER AT TRUIST PARK AT TRUIST PARK

MAKE YOUR PLANS MAKE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FOURTH OF JULY FOR THE FOURTH OF JULY
2026
Welcome to summer in Big Canoe! Our first outing came this past week as the Travel Series enjoyed the Braves vs Nationals going into extra innings to win the game at Truist Park.

The Beach Club and Wildcat are open! Come out and enjoy the water amenities in between the rain showers. Here in our community, summer is one of the most vibrant times of the year. Our hiking trails, amenities, and Clubhouse come alive with activity. Whether you ' re spending time with family and friends, exploring the outdoors, or simply relaxing on the beach with a good book, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
As we embrace the warmer months, let's also remember the importance of staying safe in the heat, looking out for one another, and helping preserve the beauty of our surroundings. Small acts of kindness and community spirit go a long way in making summer enjoyable for all.
In this issue, you'll find information about upcoming events, community updates, seasonal activities, and stories that highlight our community. We hope these pages inspire you to get involved, try something new, and make the most of the season ahead.
Wishing you a happy, healthy, and memorable summer.

One of the many advantages of living in Big Canoe is the spectacular views we enjoy. Vista pruning is done throughout the year, and now is a great time to get on the schedule to help maintain part of your winter view.
The process for vista pruning is as follows:
• Contact your preferred tree service and get on their schedule. The AECD office has a list of tree services and will gladly provide their contact information.
• The tree service will then contact the AECD office to schedule a vista pruning supervisor. We have four supervisors, so wait times should be minimal.
• On the day of pruning, the supervisor will remain on site and document all cutting activity. The property owner and tree service will both sign off on the documentation.
• The charge for the supervisor’s time is $50 and will be billed directly to your POA account. Please take this into consideration when budgeting for the project.
• Cleanup is required for areas visible to the community, such as lakes, golf courses, and streets
For more information, please contact the AECD office at 706-268-3394 or email tparish@bigcanoepoa.org.

RECOGNIZES A SINGLE BIG CANOE VOLUNTEER WHO CREATED POSITIVE IMPACT TO OUR COMMUNITY!
If you would like to nominate someone for this award, click on the link below and fill out the form.
Nominees should be Big Canoe residents for at least 2 years.
POA Board Members or their family members are not eligible to be nominated.
All nominations must be submitted by June 15, 2026.
The President’s Award will be presented at the Town Hall Meeting on Saturday, July 25.

The Finance and Audit Committee is seeking qualified candidates for the 2027-2029 term. The position requires substantial business and operational expertise, a working knowledge of financial statements, budget analysis, cash flow management, the ability to devote the necessary time, and a basic understanding of the Big Canoe Governance model. Participation in Leadership Big Canoe is preferred, but not required.
The Finance and Audit Committee advises the General Manager and Board on budget and financial operation matters. New members would serve a three-year term beginning in January 2027. The committee meets monthly in advance of the monthly POA Board of Directors meeting, and members receive an advance package for study. Members may also be asked to serve on subcommittees from time to time to analyze specific issues or to serve as liaisons to other committees. Occasionally, the committee will meet in special session to consider specific items or projects. During the budget review and approval process, the committee will meet more frequently. Members are encouraged and asked to attend monthly POA Board meetings, as well as Town Halls and other community events as they arise, to stay abreast of current issues. Newly selected members are expected to attend committee meetings prior to the start of their term in a non-voting capacity to observe how the committee operates and to understand the assumptions and details of the coming year’s operating and capital budgets.
This is an opportunity to serve your Big Canoe community in an important capacity. If you are interested, please submit a background description and resume to Gene Morgia, Committee Chair at Genemorgia@gmail.com.
