Hello Big Canoe Neighbors,
We’ve got some fantastic news to share—the Clubhouse at Lake Sconti is officially reopening on Wednesday, August 27... and we can’t wait to welcome you back!
Thanks to your support and patience, our beloved gathering place is ready to shine once again. From cozy dinners and festive celebrations with friends and family, The Clubhouse has always been the heart of Big Canoe— and now, it’s back and better than ever.
The reopening is more than just a fresh coat of paint. It’s the result of four years of dedication and collaboration—from the 2021 Voice of the Community survey to the hard work of the Strategic Planning, Long Range Planning, and Finance Committees, POA staff, Volunteers, and former POA Boards. And let’s not forget the talented architects, builders, designers, artists, and craftspeople who brought this vision to life. Their creativity and craftsmanship have beautifully blended tradition with a fresh, welcoming design that honors the past while looking to the future.
Of course, no celebration would be complete without a special thank you to our dedicated food and beverage team for their outstanding work at the Lakeside Bistro during the renovation. Their innovation, flexibility, and unwavering commitment to service kept the spirit of the Clubhouse alive. We’re grateful for all they’ve done—and now, they’re ready to welcome you back with the same warm hospitality, familiar faces, and memorable dining experiences you’ve come to love.
The renewed Clubhouse isn’t just a building—it’s a symbol of what we can accomplish when we come together as a community, and we are excited to invite you in.
Here’s to new memories, shared meals, and many more good times ahead.
With thanks and enthusiasm,
Terry Stewart President, POA Board of Directors

We highly encourage 1 male + 1 female teams for balance (and for some friendly Bocce Boys vs. Bocce Babes rivalry!)
Designed for less competitive players — laughter > leaderboard
4 teams are grouped together for a 3-month "season" — just like Dinner 8!
Each pair plays the others twice (about 2 games per month)
Recommended play times will be published to encourage social gatherings on the courts
4 seasons per year — new teams announced before each
Teams decide their own snacks & drinks — sharing encouraged
Games can follow official League rules or your own agreed-upon style
No formal scorekeeping — it’s all about the fun!

Pickens County Emergency Management and E-911 Communications Center have received both state and federal approval to implement the Integrated Public Alert &WarningSystem(IPAWS)asanothertool to warn the citizens of Pickens County. IPAWS is FEMA's nationalsystem forlocal alerting that provides authenticated emergency and life-saving information to the public through mobile phones using Wireless EmergencyAlerts (WEAs).WEAs are short emergency messages from authorized federal, state, local, tribal and territorial public alerting authorities that can be broadcast from cell towers to any WEA‐enabled mobile device in a locally targeted area. The IPAWS system is fully funded by the Federal Emergency ManagementAgency.
The Pickens County Emergency Management Agency and E-911 Communications Center began the application process early in 2025. This process included the development of local policy and the completion of all required state and federaltraining. IPAWS isnowanothersliceofthewarningsystem which also includes Code Red, NOAA Weather Radios and outdoor warning sirens which are used specifically for tornado warnings. IPAWS does not replace other warning systems already used by Pickens County. Recycling items that can be recycled is a smart move for everyone. Keeping items out of landfills and using recycled materials to create other products without requiring raw materials is a win-win. Here are some simple steps to help with this endeavor.
Take your cardboard to Cove Road for recycling. The Big Canoe cardboard dumpster is contaminated with plastic and Styrofoam not being removed from the boxes. Remove the packing materials and take the boxes, no need to flatten, to Cove Road on your next trip to Marble Hill or Jasper.
When at the marina, use reusable plates and cutlery. Bring your cans and bottles home with you to recycle instead of adding to the trash at the marina.
When you are at events around BC, use the recycling containers if available. Bright blue recycling containers are now available at the Terraces.
The aluminum can trailer is located inside the gates at the trash facility. Drop your cans into the trailer, and when full, Big Canoe is reimbursed for the cans. The metal recycling bin, behind the trash facility, is open Monday through Friday during working hours. It may be open on an occasional Saturday. This bin is keeping these metal items out of the landfill. Even steel cans from fruits and vegetables can go in the metal recycling bin.
Plastic bottles, numbers 1 and 2, and glass bottles can be recycled at Cove Road along with paper and cardboard. I have recently heard from a few people who do not know about the numbers. Most often, at the bottom of an item, there is a triangle with a number inside. #1 are drinking bottles, clamshell containers of fruits and vegetables, and other food bottles. They can be clear or colored but able to be seen through. #2 are milk jugs, detergent bottles, and the like. Please rinse these containers before discarding.

The Clubhouse will be available to decorate your tables at 4:00 p.m. that day!
