From here at the Lodge, we are starting to see daffodils peeking out of the ground and trees beginning to bud, The sun won't set before 6 p.m. until November! Winter may not be through with us just yet, but we are moving ever closer to a beautiful spring with so much to look forward to in 2025. A Wellness Center renovation, the grand opening of our Choctaw Course and Clubhouse, and all our events, traditions, and the travel series returns.
Let's start with Valentine's Day. All the gifts for your sweethearts may be found inside the gates by visiting Jessica and her team at the Racquet Club. If you are also celebrating your friendships on Galentine's Day, February 13th, you can find wonderful hostess gifts, gourmet food items, and more. Don't forget, We have lessons at both Racquet and Golf that make the sweetest gift to get us back in shape to hit the courts and the course.
Thanks again,

We're pleased to announce that the Wellness Center is beginning a $615,000 investment in some much needed upgrades. Many of these upgrades were identified from your feedback in the recent member satisfaction survey and feedback from our Wellness Center staff. From March 3rd - 22nd, the Wellness Center will be closed for maintenance while we replace:
Cardio equipment
Replace the flooring
Replace windows and doors
Upgrade the sauna
Paint, and deep clean
Prior to the closure, a new natatorium dehumidifying system, desert air, will begin installation on Monday, January 27 through Tuesday, January 28, which should be finished with no interruption to operation, other than a section of the parking lot blocked for their equipment staging. We thank you for your patience during the maintenance work and we're confident you'll enjoy the new equipment and appreciate the improved appearance.
Do you find yourself holding your breath while strength training? There is a proper method for breathing while performing resistance (strength) training.
The exerciser should exhale on the positive contraction (when the weight is being lifted) and inhale during the negative phase. This is for the safety of the alveoli (tiny air sacs in the lungs where carbon dioxide is exchanged for oxygen) and to keep blood pressure from becoming excessively high during the exercise. You may find that your natural tendencyistobreathetheoppositeway.
Regarding the speed (how quickly should you press out when doing a bench press), a safe bet is the four count system. Count to four during the positive phase (when the weight is being lifted) and four on the negative(recovery)phase.
Otheroptionstoconsider:
To increase total fiber recruitment and strength training stimulus the exerciser can slow this process down even further. Try slowing down to a count of ten both directions and experience this method. You may be surprised to discover the slower method to be the most challenging. The slower the repetitions (count phase) the more intense the muscleworkload.
Advanced individuals may elect to perform the repetitions faster, a count of one or two, to work on increasing their speed and power. Take note that this technique of lifting more rapidly increases the risk of injury and should only be attemptedbywell-trainedindividuals.
