The Food & Beverage team is excited to launch "Beach Bites" this season Although I wasn't here last year, I've heard many stories of what worked and what didn't work well. With that knowledge, we have devised a plan to keep things efficient and, most importantly, keep the line moving when getting snacks and drinks at the beach club. We will serve all your favorite ice creams, chips, candy, hot dogs, brats, and pizza. We will have a rotating selection of pre-packaged sandwiches and salads We are excited about our new wine and cocktail selection for this season, along with beer and soda In addition, we will be serving frozen margaritas and strawberry daiquiris! These will also be available without alcohol for the kiddos Here's to a great summer, and we look forward to serving you at Beach Bites!

As we gear up for the warmer weather and summer adventures it is essential to take a moment to familiarize ourselves with Big Canoe's Public Safety Team's water and outdoor preparation safety tips This knowledge will not only enhance our outdoor experiences but also ensure they are safe and enjoyable.
The first step of any outdoor water adventure is ensuring we prepare supplies and equipment ahead of time to get the most out of those beautiful summer days. Start by making sure we take care of our health and the health of our friends and family. Everyone should be prepared for the sun with sunscreen. There are two types of sunscreen options available: chemical and physical. High-quality sunscreen lotion with a high SPF value will help reduce the damage created by UV rays. The stronger the SPF value the higher skin protection provided
Just a reminder sunscreen is recommended to be applied liberally and 15 minutes prior to exposure for optimal performance, also it's important to reapply throughout the day. The next option for UV protection is through physical barriers, these barriers come in the form of hats, umbrellas, and UV rated outdoor, and swim wear.
Now that we have prepared to venture outdoors here are a few tips to remember to ensure your safety while near or on the water. First off all boat occupants are required to have a personal floatation device (PFD) onboard the vessel with them. All children 13 years of age or younger are required to wear PFD while on the water in a watercraft. All watercraft should ensure they have
all required safety items onboard before departing the marina. This includes a fire extinguisher, horn or whistle, and also a throwable floatation device.
Another item that is handy to have is a lake map that identifies the different locations on the lake in case an emergency arises and you have to provide your location for emergency services. The final tip is being weather aware while outdoors, spring and summertime storms can pop up without warning so the ability to get weather updates while outdoors is critical. Both counties provide options through apps that you can download to receive emergency notifications. You can access these apps on the following page.
Also, hydration is important during the summer season; make sure everyone is continually hydrating while outdoors with proper fluids. Water and hydration beverages such as sports drinks and electrolyte replacement drinks are great options on those hot summer days
Sign up for weather& emergency alerts
In addition to signing up for CodeRED and Smart911, Property Owners also can opt in to real-time text updates on floods, fires, water emergencies, road closures, missing persons, and evacuations.
To opt in:
1) Log onto the POA website through "My Big Canoe"
2) Go to “My Profile”
3) Scroll down to “Text Messaging Address”
4) Click edit, select your service provider, write you mobile phone number, and click save
5) When prompted on your mobile phone, input the code texted to you – and you ’ re set
Summer is here again and to safely enjoy Lake Petit, the following are offered as reminders:
1.
There is a designated swim area that needs to be honored for your swimming pleasure (See image below )
2
You cannot enter the water from the shoreline of Lake Petit Please use the North Marina or South Marina to launch your craft.
4
3. Eagle Island is off-limits to human foot traffic because of the eagles nesting there.
5.
While on a paddle board, life jackets must be worn at all times. Don't kid yourself, an expert swimmer two years ago fainted while on a paddle board due to an acute appendicitis and would have been at the bottom of the lake had it not been for the life jacket she was wearing
You must have a fishing membership or fishing permit to fish the lakes of Big Canoe. Lake Petit is stocked with rainbow trout and the fishing limit on trout is four (4).
6
Even though parking at the Marina can be problematic at times, there is no parking allowed on the shoulder of Wilderness Parkway Please avoid being ticketed or towed. There is additional parking just before going onto the dam with a path leading down to the floating dock; the driver can drop their party off at the Marina and make their way there and be picked up.
Please wear sunscreen or wear adequate clothing to avoid a painful burn later on 7.
8 No live minnows are allowed for fishing as they have been known to be a carrier of disease. 9.
Please handle fishing equipment in a safe manner to avoid having to go to ER due to an embedded hook.
John John Lipkowitz, Marina ManagerLake Petit Designated Smimming Area
A lesson will consist of learning how to operate a jonboat along with learning the best ways to catch rainbow trout. A fishing lesson can be arranged by emailing your name, your lot number, and cell phone number to me at jlipkowitz@bigcanoepoa.org. Keith will then contact you to arrange a time for the lesson. The cost will be the price of the jonboat for two hours plus a $40 lesson fee. For those who do not currently have a fishing membership, the $40 lesson fee can be applied towards a new annual fishing membership.

On Thursday, May 9, the Big Canoe Community celebrated the Grand Opening of the new Big Canoe Fire Department Training Center. The Training Center, located off Hubbard Road, replaces the old facility which had outlived its usefulness. The bulk of the construction funds were donated by Big Canoe residents, and all proceeds from the April 2023 Gala Fundraiser were dedicated to this facility.
Following the dedication, the Big Canoe Fire Department completed an inaugural test burn. The training center is used to simulate real structure fire conditions, so training is vital. Thank you to everyone in attendance and thank you to all who donated and helped make this training facility available to our Fire Fighters!
