Presentation of Years 6-9 Awards Mensch Awards Awarded to a student that best embodies the core values of the school through their support of other students’ learning, their generosity of spirit and their involvement in broader initiatives. Academic Excellence Awarded for academic excellence. The Middle School Art Award Awarded to a student who has shown a love and appreciation of Art. The Middle School Drama Award Awarded to a student who has demonstrated exceptional commitment in both curricular and cocurricular Drama throughout the year. The Middle School Music Award Awarded to a student who displays aptitude, enthusiasm and dedication to Music. The Bettie Kornhauser Middle School Science Award Awarded to a student who displays aptitude, enthusiasm and dedication to Science. This award honours the memory of Bettie Kornhauser, who always valued education very highly and gave generously to organisations and causes that supported children who were in danger of missing a proper education through exclusion or disadvantage. Presentation of Years 10-12 Awards Mensch Awards Awarded to the students in Years 10-12 who best embodies the core values of the school through their support of other students’ learning, their generosity of spirit and their involvement in broader initiatives and for students in Years 10 and 11 for academic excellence. Subject Prizes for VCE Units 3-4 Awarded to a very high performing student who exhibits positive qualities of aptitude, attitude and generosity of spirit as a learner and contributor to the class. The Senior School Art Award Awarded to a student who has excelled in Art and displays a passion for the Visual Arts. The Senior School Design Award Awarded to a student who has excelled in Visual Communication and Design. The Steinberger and Friedland Media Award Awarded to a student for passionate commitment to media production. This award was established in 2008 in Memory of Itay Steinberger and in honour of former Bialik Shaliach Steven Friedland. The Senior School Debating Award Awarded to the student who displays a passion for Debating. The Senior School Drama Award Awarded to a student who displays exceptional commitment in both curricular and co-curricular Drama throughout the year. The Senior School Music Award Awarded to a student who displays aptitude, enthusiasm and dedication to Music. The Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Award The Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program is an academic enrichment program designed to support high-achieving Victorian secondary school students. The program offers numerous

opportunities for students to interact with the University, with substantial additional benefits for students who subsequently enrol at the University of Melbourne. The Kooyong Student Prize Awarded for excellence in extra-curricular pursuits, leadership amongst their peers, a strong commitment to College values and strengthening the community at large. The Private Greg Sher Award Awarded to a Year 11 student who has provided outstanding voluntary service to the community and their fellow students. This award is presented in memory of Private Sher who was tragically killed whilst on active service in Afghanistan in 2009. The ADF Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Award The ADF Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Awards recognises students who demonstrate leadership and teamwork within both the school and the broader local community. At the same time, they recognise those who display strong values, such as doing one’s best, respect for others and “mateship”, characteristics that are integral to Australian society. Presentation of Jewish Life Awards The Leon Bass Middle School Hebrew Prize Awarded to a student who displays a love for Hebrew. This award has been endowed by Barry and Sara Rosenberg in memory of Leon Bass, father of Sara Rosenberg and Miriam Bass. Mr Bass was a founding Hebrew teacher in the early days of Bialik. The Avital Chabat B'nei Mitzvah Award Awarded to a Year 7 student who demonstrates the values of community, compassion and menschlichkeit. Avital Chabat was a cherished member of our Jewish Studies staff –a wonderful, committed and much-loved young teacher who battled illness with remarkable courage. Avital coordinated the B’nei Mitzvah ceremonies for a number of years. The Middle School Jewish Studies Award Awarded to a student displaying exceptional interest and involvement with Jewish Studies. The Senior School Jewish Studies Award Awarded to a student displaying exceptional interest and involvement with Jewish Studies. The Senior School Prize for Hebrew Awarded to a student who has shown a passion for the Hebrew language. The Senior School Community Service Award Awarded to a student who displays concern and involvement with the wider community. The Senior School Engagement with the Wider Community Award Awarded to a student who encourages and facilitates student engagement with the wider community. The Senior School Zionist Award Awarded to the student who displays dedication and support to the Jewish People and the State of Israel The Jewish Life Service to the College Award Awarded to the student who has demonstrated outstanding service to Bialik College. Presentation of Senior College Awards The Helen & Jeffrey Mahemoff Award Awarded to the Year 12 student who receives this award is distinguished by academic excellence and achievement as Dux of School in 2018. Endowed in honour and recognition of the outstanding contribution of Jeffrey Mahemoff AO to the College. The Stephen Rose Award Awarded to a Year 12 student who displays commitment and dedication to school life; outstanding leadership qualities and potential; good sportsmanship; and a willingness to participate in all aspects of school life. This award is made to a student who shows compassion and understanding towards others and is presented in memory of a former Bialik student, Stephen Rose. The Chaim Nachman Bialik Award This award is the highest accolade presented to a Year 12 student. It recognises an outstanding dedication and commitment to studies and a significant contribution to the life of the College.
