Thisyearbookisaculminationoftheefforts of the BHSS Communications Team, a substeam of the Bachelor of Health Sciences Society. We are thrilled to bring you the 2022-2023 issue of the BHSc yearbook. This year was a fully in-person academic year, and we welcomed the changesthatitbrought.Wehopethatthis publication, which is in print for the first time, will help you look back at the memories you made this year. Credit for the photos in this publication also goes to Sachi Chan, Patrick Ang, James Wang, LianhaoQu,JiwonHwang, andalltheother studentswhoprovidedphotosandmedia.
As this year comes to a close, I want to reflect on my role as your BHSS Chair and the work that we have accomplished together. It has been a privilege to lead the BHSS team and ensure that the needs and interests of the student body are met. One of my key responsibilities has been to chair our open Executive meetings, where we discuss initiatives and collaborate on strategies to improve our school community. It has been a pleasure to work alongside such a dedicated and passionate group of individuals who share the common goal of enhancing the BHSc experience for all students.
From the BHSS enchanted Formal to our educational Life After BHSc, I was thrilled to see so many of you come together to celebrate and make lasting memories. I was equally delighted to see the school spirit displayed through the support of our BKTY sweaters and other initiatives. As your Chair, it has been an absolute pleasure to work with you all and see the impact that we can make when we come together. I hope that these experiences have brought us closer as a community and have created a sense of belonging that we can carry with us beyond our time here at BHSc. I also want to take a moment to acknowledge the resilience of our student body. Over the past few years, we have faced unprecedented uncertainty with the COVID-19 pandemic. Our students have handled the change from in-person to online to hybrid and back in person with incredible adaptability. I am proud of the way that our community has come together and supported each other during these challenging times.
As this year comes to a close, I want to express my gratitude for the trust that you have placed in me as your Chair. It has been an honour to serve our school community, and I look forward to seeing the future of the BHSc.
Sincerely,
Hey class of ’26! It’s hard to believe it but we’re already at the end of our first year as university students. Despite Chari and Eric’s best efforts to make our lives as bitter and painful as possible, we’ve all made it through with flying colours! It has been so exciting to serve you all as the First Year Rep through organizing socials, providing supports for student life, and giving away cool merch! We’ve been so lucky to experience one of the first fully in-person years following the pandemic, so let’s cherish all the memories that we’ve made so far (as well as the crazy nights that we don’t remember). As we head into our second year, let’s keep our wolfpack spirit going!
Being the Second Year Rep this year was a super rewarding and valuable experience. It allowed me to connect with my cohort in a really engaging way, and create a stronger community both within SYC and in the greater cohort. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends through this position, and I hope these connections can carry forward into years to come!
Being third-year rep this school year has overall been awesome! I got to work with dedicated and passionate team members to run fun and engaging events beyond what I could have envisioned for the cohort. If I had the time, I would have definitely ran again because it felt like we were just getting started (why is it always near the end of things when they have to get really good?). It was almost like the first season of an epic show! I am definitely excited to see what the next year rep has for us in store.
With that said, my favourite event that we had was definitely the gingerbread house competition. We originally planned it to be just gingerbread house building with an ugly sweater competition, but there wasn't a lot of people wearing ugly sweaters. We improvised and turned it into a gingerbread house building competition, and I think that was one of the best event decisions we've made because everyone was super engaged and seemed like they were having a great time (kareoke afterwards was poppin).
I would like to end this with a message of appreciation. Thanks to the dedicated members of my council, thanks to everyone who came out to the events, and finally, thanks to the cohort for believing in me and letting me run this year's cohort as the representative - it has been amazing!
As the fourth year rep, I consider myself fortunate to have had the chance to serve our graduating class. Graduating fourth year feels like a huge accomplishment, but comes with a mix of emotions as we enter a new chapter in our lives. There are those of us that have a clear plan ahead, and others still on the path of discovery. For either camp, the uncertainties of what the future holds can still be daunting, but I am excited for the opportunities and possibilities that await our class.
During my time in the program and as rep, I had the chance to meet individuals from all walks of life, each with their own unique qualities and attributes that have left a profound and enduring impact on me. I feel grateful for the relationships and connections that were fostered during our time together, and I am proud of what we have accomplished and look forward to the impact our cohort will make in whichever field we choose.
I leave you with the quote by Mark Twain, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So, throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
