2017 High Five Tour Wounded Warriors Family Support’s High Five Tour is the quintessential road trip where the organization thanks Americans from all across our great country for their appreciation and support of our nation’s military families for the sacrifices they make when America goes to war. This summer, Wounded Warriors Family Support hit the road for the 8th annual High Five Tour 2017. During the four month tour, a Ford Shelby GT350 will travel more than 26,000 miles as we crisscross the United States, traveling to more than 100 cities and making stops in 48 states. Americans of all walks of life are invited and encouraged to show their support for our military families by visiting the Sturgis Mustang Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota during Labor Day weekend and signing the tour vehicle with a message of support to our country’s veterans and their families. Through the High Five Tour 2017, Wounded Warriors Family Support’s goal is to raise $1,000,000.00 to provide veteran programs to combat wounded veterans and their families. Jack Roush ROUSH Performance, located in Livonia, Michigan, USA, was founded by American motorsports legend Jack Roush in 1995. Since then, ROUSH Performance has become the industry leader in integrating track-tested racing technologies into new street legal vehicles to create the ultimate driving machines. Jack Roush began his career at Ford Motor Company and quickly took advantage of the company’s extensive motorsport activities. In 1966, Roush began drag racing with a group of other enthusiasts called “The Fastbacks.” Later, Roush would enter a partnership with Wayne Gapp, attracting national attention by winning events and one championship each in NHRA, IHRA, and AHRA with their Pro Stock racer, before forming his own engineering business – Jack Roush Performance Engineering. Roush provided engines for race

teams and various powerboat and oval track series throughout the early 1980’s. After a stint with Zakspeed Racing in GTX and GTP, Roush returned to competition in the Sports Car Club of America and International Motor Sports Association road racing series. After winning the manufacturer’s title for Lincoln-Mercury in his first year, Roush Racing claimed 24 national championships and titles in the two series, including 12 manufacturer’s championships. Roush also achieved 119 road racing victories and 10 consecutive 24 Hours of Daytona sedan class championships. In 1988, Roush jumped into NASCAR Winston Cup racing with Mark Martin. Today, Roush’s racing operations include five Nextel Cup teams, one full season, two limitedschedule Busch Series teams and two Craftsman Truck Series teams. ROUSH Performance is also involved in a number of other performance categories, including Formula Drift, Pirelli World Challenge, and the NMRA. The vehicles and components

Jack Roush Jr. Not only is Jack Roush Jr. a driver in the ROUSH Road Racing team, he also helps to develop performance products for ROUSH Performance, directs ROUSH Performance’s ecommerce initiatives and writes articles giving performance driving tips and advice. Jack Jr. was born in South-East Michigan in 1973. It goes without saying that Jack Jr. grew up around cars and racing. At the ripe young age of six, Jack Jr. began his gokarting career in the Ford Thunderbird Kart Club. He went on to win each of the five seasons that he ran there, with a tie for the final half season. Jack Jr. took a break from his own racing starting at the age of 12. During

this time that Jack developed his skills in computer technology and music, both of which are major passions of his to this day. Then while in college, Jack got back into gokarting. It wasn’t long before Jack wanted to get into racing full-sized cars. The first effort for this was in drag racing, where Jack worked on his launching and shifting precision in the NMRA Modular Muscle bracket class. In 2006, Jack had the opportunity to team up with Rehagen Racing for his first road racing event in fullsized sedans. Though Jack had a lot of experience in road racing gokarts, there was a pretty steep learning curve when hopping into the full-size sedans. Undeterred, Jack practiced hard and studied what he could while not racing to get better. Since that time, Jack Jr. has scored a total of 10 Grand-Am victories,

Outside of his racing efforts, Jack Jr. has always had a passion for computer technology, especially in the area of programming. After graduating college, he began an internet-based software company with some friends. The company innovated new search software applications (siteLevel.com) and developed the leading headphone hifi community, Head-Fi.org. Jack left his technology company in early 2008, and now works with the family business full-time in ROUSH Performance in Plymouth, Michigan. He works both on the web side of the business as well as in developing performance products. Shortly before beginning his road racing career, Jack was married to his loving wife Laura, and is the proud father of four children.

ROUSH Builds Custom 2017 Stage 3 “Snake Eyes” Mustang for the 2017 Sturgis Mustang Rally Introducing the one-of-a-kind 2017 ROUSH Stage 3 “Snake Eyes” Mustang - created specifically to be given to a lucky winner during the Dice Roll at the 2017 Stugis Mustang Rally. The 2017 ROUSH Stage 3 Mustang features a 5.0L Coyote engine topped with a ROUSH 2.3L Eaton TVS (Twin Vortices Series) Supercharger to produce a tireshredding 670-horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque, paired with a manual 6-speed transmission. Hertz and the Shelby GT Marketing tie-ins and other sorts of cobranded marketing and production creations and promotions are best when they benefit all sides of the equation. Brand A, Brand B and ultimately the customer should get something special or some other benefit when the cobranded, promoted product is purchased- or in this case rental. Seldom in automotive history has this sort of arrangement worked as synergistically for all parties as it has for Ford/Shelby America, Hertz Rental Car and the lucky customers who rented (or ended up owning) these unique cars. Ford was, and still is, the main vehicle provider for Hertz. Early on in their association, Hertz felt that certain customers wanted something more experiential when they traveled. In 1958, the company formed the Hertz Sports Car Club, to offer on a very special select basis, special cars for rent. Prior to being allowed membership in this club and the opportunity to rent “hot wheels”, customers needed to take a brief behindthe-wheel driving test with a Hertz representative to demonstrate that they could handle something more than the average compact. The benefits for both companies were obvious: Shelby American sold an extra 1,000 specially configured cars to Hertz for the program, and each rental became a de facto test drive, with additional hopes that the rental customer would so enjoy the car that he’d return home from his business trip or vacation and purchase his

own Shelby Mustang. Hertz benefited by the ability to offer something extraspecial to its best customers, who gladly paid $17.95 per day $0.17 per mile for the privilege of driving a hot Mustang. The cars were generally stock spec 1966 Shelby Mustang G.T. 350s, but specially configured color and equipped for this job. The Hertz car was christened the G.T. 350H. An exclusive color scheme was whipped up for these cars: a black exterior with gold Shelby stripes, plus black interior. Although this color combo was unique to the G.T. 350H, it wasn’t the only livery available, although I was by far the most common and remains the most identifiable characteristic of the Hertz model Shelby Mustang. In 1966, a handful of the cars were built in red, dark metallic green and Shelby Metallic Blue with gold stripping. There were even a few Wimbledon white ones. The other main equipment difference was that all but a few G.T. 350H were produced with automatic transmissions. Shelby American World Registry records indicate that as many as 85 of the cars were equipped with four speed. It was also logical that this move would minimize clutch, rear differential and engine failures. The 1966 G.T.

350H’s engine, suspension and other fitments were otherwise stock G.T. 350 spec. Shelby and Hertz officials feared that the car would be rented by weekend warrior, racers who would drag- or roadrace then in stock racing classes. The H model picked up the nickname Rent-aRacer. The program was a success for all parties. Hertz kept its Shelby fleet active and rented out, and Shelby and Ford enjoyed the positive brand ruboff from relatively affluent clients enjoying a previously unplanned test drive in the 1966 G.T. 350. Once the initial program ended, the cars were carefully and slowly sold off into private hands, making each of those folks a very select and lucky Shelby customer. The G.T. 350H program was renewed for 1967, 1968 and 1969 on a much lower scale and with lower volume. It wrapped up with the production of the final 1969 – 1970 Shelby Mustangs. In 2005, with an all new Mustang on the market, Ford, Hertz and Shelby Automobiles reconnected and cooked up another Hertz Shelby program.

Shelby was back in the door with Ford to produce for the first time in more than 40 years a new Shelby Mustang for 2006. This new deal was developed as a Hertz exclusive program for 2006 only with no model offered through dealers that year. Shelby developed an assembly-line-style, post-title equipment and modifications programs for Hertz. The car was now called the Ford Shelby GT-H. All of the 2006 cars were based on specially configured black Mustang GT coupes with 4.6L V-8 engines and automatic transmissions. The performance upgrade package included a Ford Racing developed suspension system, engine performance package (cold air intake, revised engine, management software), polished stainless steel exhaust and a Shelby developed fiberglass hood. A data plate mounted on the dashboard and Carroll Shelby’s signature. The cars were

built to certain specification by Ford then, prior to delivery to Hertz, were shipped to Shelby Automobiles in Las Vegas for conversion to GT-H spec, including the application of those iconic gold Shelby stripes identifying the car as a Shelby and Hertz model. Hertz rented them at selected locations as part of its exclusive Fun Fleet. Dyno Testing:

What you need to know In recent times, there has been much confusion about dyno testing and what it means. There are many terms related to dyno testing and some of these definitions can be confusing. So what is Dyno Tuning? Whether fine-tuning performance modifications, making before/after comparisons, or simply base-lining power/torque curves, dyno tuning sessions are valuable steps in your Mustang’s performance upgrade path. Dyno Tuning is a systematic approach to engine tuning where an engine is running under its own power coupled up to a controlled amount of resistance. The resistance is normally in the form of a water brake or an electric brake. Dyno Tuning allows mechanics to give your Mustang a tune-up of unparalleled quality, which in turn provides the driver with the smoothest and most

economical performance possible from your Mustang. Step 1: The first step to Dyno Tuning is to determine from the driver if their Mustang has any particular problems or points of concern, ie: gas mileage, surging, lack of power, hard starting, pinging or missing. Step 2: After the customer interview, the mechanics check the engine compression to determine if the engine is mechanically sound. At the same time, they make a visual inspection for obvious problems, such as broken vacuum lines, oil soaked, burned or brittle plug wires or an excessively dirty carburetor. Step 3: The mechanics determine the proper heat range of spark plug to be used in your Mustang’s application. Step 4: The distributor is then removed and place in a synchrograph,

After determining that the distributor is mechanically sound, the mechanics modify the centrifugal advance rate to improve engine responsiveness and power, and set the vacuum advance to provide the maximum gas mileage. The ignition components are inspected, and replaced if necessary. Since the synchrograph will test the distributor under actual operation conditions, there is no doubt that it will function properly when installed in your Mustang. The process is called “recurving” the distributor. Upon completing the test, you will receive a detailed test sheet of you Mustang’s Dyno Tune-up specifications.

Shelby American Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Super Snake with New Generation Car Five decades after the first “Super Snake” rumbled out of the factory, Shelby American Inc. unveiled the allnew 50th Anniversary model today in the Ford Motor Company exhibit at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction. To commemorate the anniversary of the legendary Shelby Super Snake, only 500 of the 2017 models will be built with a new lower MSRP beginning at US$69,995 including the base Ford Mustang GT. “When Carroll Shelby introduced the Super Snake version of the Ford Mustang in 1967, it earned universal respect for its astonishing capabilities,” said Joe Conway, Co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International and CEO of Shelby American. “When Shelby American reintroduced the Super Snake in 2007, the world was awed by the 600+ horsepower street legal muscle car. That tradition continues with our newest Shelby Super Snake, which is better in every way. Carroll’s bold spirit lives on through this amazing car.” The new Super Snake marks a significant next chapter in the company’s history. “We compared the groundbreaking 1967 and 2007 model Super Snakes to other cars of their era when setting the performance parameters for our anniversary model,” said Gary Patterson, Shelby American President. “The new Super Snake matches those cars’ competitive advantages. The newest Super Snake is both extraordinarily fast and a thrill to drive. In a world filled with sterile cars, it’s a throwback to a time when people enjoyed driving.”

Based on the world-class Ford Mustang GT, the new Super Snake is equally capable on the road and the track. Shelby American collaborated with partners like Ford Performance, Borla, Michelin and Wilwood to create an even more focused car. “The 2017 Super Snake is a tremendous performance value,” said Vince LaViolette, Shelby American Vice President of Operations. “We fine-tuned our processes and materials to offer an agile, nimble and balanced car at a lower cost. A turnkey Super Snake starting at $69,995, plus taxes and fees, has more base performance content than any other version in our history.” The new Super Snake is an exercise in subtle details and features many first-to-market products. Working with Ford Performance, Shelby American sharpened the handling of the independent suspension and then upgraded the brakes with massive calipers and rotors. Under the hood, the Super Snake combines Ford’s iconic 5.0 V8 engine with forced induction for 670 horsepower; optional superchargers can pump out over 750 horsepower. The result is a well-engineered car with stunning capabilities. On pump gasoline and Michelin street legal tires, a properly optioned Super Snake can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, blaze through the quarter mile in only 10.9 seconds and deliver an amazing 1.2g on the skip pad. One look at the Super Snake reveals unique Shelby styling that is smooth and integrated. The car features a new hood, rockers, spoilers, splitters, grilles, fog lights, rear tail panel and rear diffuser assembly. Additional styling cues

also include anniversary stripes and badges. Inside, the anniversary theme continues across the seats, dash and floor. The exterior of the car began life as a scaled computer model in CAD. Every part was then taken through an OEM process to develop the final product. Almost all Shelby-exclusive components were developed and tested with original equipment manufacturers. “The 2017 Super Snake represents American muscle in the truest sense,” said LaViolette. “It delivers full-throttle excitement at every turn, all wrapped in a chiseled, handsome body. We designed every aspect of the car to be leaner and more functional than previous models. No other car offers so much performance and styling for the price.” The Super Snake is available in all Ford factory colors and can be ordered with a manual or automatic transmission. The car is covered by Shelby’s limited three year, 36,000 mile limited power train warranty. The cost of the package is $36,795 not including the Ford Mustang GT, making a complete car about $69,995.00. An extensive list of options is available, including larger superchargers capable of up over 750HP. Each Super Snake is assigned a Shelby serial number that is documented in the official Shelby Registry. A separate plaque signed by the build team will be affixed under the hood.
