Acupuncture stimulates the brain and central nervous system to release endorphins, employing the body’s built-in painkillers—
without risk of constipation, addiction, or overdose. The effect of engaging the body’s natural resources can be used in a variety of conditions, and, using specific methods, is sometimes chosen as an option over analgesic drugs during some animal surgeries. Another way acupuncture reduces pain is by reducing inflammation or, more precisely, by regulating the activity of inflammatory chemicals, sometimes called the inflammatory ‘soup’. This is an important aspect of how acupuncture can help relieve inflammatory conditions like arthritis and tendonitis. When looking for an acupuncturist, don’t be afraid to request a consultation, just as you would with any healthcare provider. Acupuncture specialists understand the concerns of prospective clients, and should be willing to discuss your options ahead of time. Your acupuncturist should be able to explain the benefits and risks, and make sure you understand what their methods are and how often you will need to come in for treatment sessions.

Spring and Summer Choosing an Oil Change If you have ever felt overwhelmed when choosing an oil change service at the auto shop, you’re not alone. With the many different types of fluid available, it’s easy to be confused when choosing the most effective method for your vehicle. Don’t just settle for a package because it’s the most affordable; some cars and trucks require high-performance lubricants to work at their highest efficiency. The Meaning of “W” Many people see the letter and number combination on a bottle of oil and automatically assume the W means weight. It actually stands for winter. The first number in the oil classification refers to cold weather viscosity. The lower the number, the less viscous the oil in cooler weather. So a 5W-20 oil will flow better in lower temperatures than a 10W- oil. The second number represents the viscosity at warmer temperatures. Always follow your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations for types of oil to use. After choosing the right viscosity of oil, now you have the choice of which type of lubricant will perform the best. Vehicle owners know maintaining a vehicle can be a lot of work. Taking the time to properly care for a vehicle can prolong its life expectancy and help owners avoid breakdowns and other issues along the way. Regular washing is an aspect of vehicle maintenance that some may classify as a purely cosmetic benefit. Certainly a car wash can keep the vehicle looking its best, but there are other advantages to washing as well. Washing offers preventative maintenance for the car’s paint and can help prevent rust and corrosion. Rust can compromise hydraulic brake and fuel lines, as well as many moving parts in the chassis and frame. Corrosion of electrical connectors and other parts under the hood can lead to leaks, electrical shorts and a host of additional problems. If you live in an area with a high amount of dust or industry, you may need to wash your car as frequently as once a week. Garage-kept vehicles may be able to go longer between washes, but in general washing a vehicle every two to three weeks is a good rule of thumb. In addition, a good sealant will protect the paint and other trims throughout the year. The following are some other car-wash tips to follow. • Always use a proper washing soap
solution. This will preserve the car’s finish better than other homemade soaps. • Be prompt when cleaning off bugs, sap and bird droppings that may stick to the paint and become difficult to remove over time. • Wait until a car has cooled down before washing. Heat speeds up the drying of soap and water and can make it more difficult to clean. • Always use a clean, non-abrasive sponge. Resist the urge to move the sponge in circles as you clean. Doing so can create noticeable swirl scratch marks. • Keep a separate rinsing bucket to clean the sponge or washing mitt so that dirt is not mixed into the clean, sudsy water. • Wax the car every season to ensure it has maximum protection. In between, apply a liquid spray wax to touch up spots. • Don’t forget to pay attention to the interior. Vacuum the carpets regularly to prevent ground-in dirt and routinely clean the upholstery with a product specific to your vehicle’s interior, whether that interior is leather or fabric. Protecting a vehicle investment involves keeping the car clean. Know the right ways to help a car or truck look and perform like new.

Spring and Summer Protect Against Sun Fading After a long winter, most of us welcome the sunshine with open arms. However, we often forget to protect our vehicles from its rays. Not only does fading negate an attractive interior, it can reduce the resale value of your car. There are several protectants you can take advantage of to keep your leather and vinyl looking fresh. Most products can be found on the shelves of your local auto parts store, but if you decide you want commercial-strength assistance, inquire with a professional service in your area. Here are a few of the problem spots that demand attention once spring arrives. Dashboard If you don’t feel the need for chemicals to build a barrier between your vinyl dashboard and the suncaused fading, there are a couple solutions. When possible put your vehicle in a parking garage or park under trees which offer shade. Use a windshield protector to block the rays while you’re not in the vehicle. This also will help keep the interior from becoming too hot. If these strategies aren’t an option during your daily routine, specially made conditioners do an efficient job
protecting against fading or cracks. Before applying the protectant, make sure to clean the surface with a microfiber cloth and cleaning agent. If you spray a barrier while particles are present, it may create a pattern if sun damage occurs. Leather Seats Your leather seats are at serious risk of becoming damaged from the sun’s UV rays. Fortunately, there are many conditioners that work like the sunscreen we use on our skin. In addition to offering protection, highquality leather additive keeps your seats soft and comfortable. For extra hot days, consider using covers made of cloth to avoid unexpected burns when hopping into a hot seat. Convertible Top Many people welcome spring in by cruising through town in a convertible. However, when the top is up, it’s material can also be heavily compromised from prolonged exposure to the sun. It’s a good idea to get periodic inspections from a professional and replace a top when it is recommended. Allowing damage or wear to go on could cause serious damage to your interior on a rainy day.
