Full-Time Industrial Electrician/PLC Programmer

Minerals Technologies - American Colloid Div.

The Industrial Electrician/PLC Programmer is responsible to support programming, troubleshooting, calibration, project implementation and network integration as well as supporting the manufacturing maintenance team on a PLC/ Electrical related issues. This position requires a high level of responsibility towards keeping the automated industrial control systems current, troubleshooting and providing preventive and corrective maintenance on production equipment in an industrial manufacturing environment. Performance of all jobs must be conducted safely, efficiently and accurately. Wage DOE Primary Duties will include but are not limited to: Build, perform repairs and/or do modifications to equipment, and preventive maintenance. Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains processes at an industrial level. Effectively maintain programming, hardware networking and communication. Drive plant control system upgrades. Diagnose and correct PLC programming problems to minimize downtime. Diagnose, repair and or replace electrical components of machines. New equipment installations. Requires standing, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 50 lbs. Minimum Hiring Requirements: High School graduate/GED. 2 Year Trade school degree recommended. A high level of understanding of proactive and preventive maintenance. Must be available after hours, emergencies and or any shift as per Maintenance/Plant managers request. Should have process knowledge of plant milling, drying, conveying, elevators, etc. Ability to climb ladders and stairs. Minimum of 5 years experience in troubleshooting, repairing, programming and installing electrical control equipment in a manufacturing environment. 3-5 years PLC programming experience. Formal education in a related field is strongly desired. 2-4 years maintnance mechanic experience. Familiarity with PLC hardware and software. Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge and use of AutoCAD is a plus. Skills with pneumatic and hydraulic applicaions is a plus. Electrical and PLC Programming required. Intermediate computer skills required for CMMS. Be able to travel as needed for training classes. Also required will be MSHA safety training, Site specific training, Continuous on the job training, and Mobile equipment training if needed. Tips to simplify cooking this holiday season

At some point during the holiday season, celebrants who host family and friends will no doubt prepare a homecooked meal for their loved ones. Cooking for a crowd can seem like a daunting task, especially for first-time hosts. However, there are various ways for hosts to simplify

cooking for a crowd this holiday season.

Prepare a familiar dish

Hosts may agonize over their holiday menus, and some may feel compelled to prepare a family specialty or the same dishes their

parents or grandparents prepared for holiday dinners when they were children. But holiday hosts can make things easy on themselves by choosing dishes they’ve made in the past, regardless of their place in family history. Chances are the ingredients for hosts’ own specialties are already in the pantry, saving a potentially timeconsuming trip to the grocery store. And thanks to the familiarity factor, hosts’ own specialties likely won’t require as much time to prepare.

Share some cooking duties

Another way to simplify cooking for a crowd is to invite guests to bring along a side dish or dessert. Guests who live nearby can make something in advance of the big meal, while hosts can hand over their kitchens to overnight guests who express a willingness to contribute their own homecooked dish to the party. Sharing the cooking duties gives hosts more

time to connect with friends and family and serves as a great way to plan the menu in advance.

Make what guests will eat

Hosts also should not feel pressured to cook more food than is necessary. Holiday meals have a tendency to be lavish, but hosts don’t have to spend all day in the kitchen preparing food that will likely end up as leftovers or trash. Get a final headcount in the days before everyone comes over and adjust your recipes accordingly.

Start early

If the big meal is on Christmas Day, that does not mean hosts have to start cooking while everyone unwraps their presents. Hosts who are uncertain about what to cook can look for meals that can be prepared in advance so come the big day all they need to do is turn on the oven and let meals cook while the family spends time together.

Test your tree

The National Christmas Tree Association says the first step to picking the right fir is to know where you want it in the home. Measure the ceiling height and make sure to buy a tree that will fit with room to spare for the star on top. Remember, that tree looks a lot smaller outside than it does in the confines of your home.

The association also encourages a needle test to check the tree’s health. Look for lost needles, discoloration, a musty odor and wrinkled bark. When you run your hand along the tree’s branches, the needles should not come off easily. Branches should be pliable; if they snap, the tree is too dry.

Know your decor

Once you’ve chosen a fresh, healthy tree, follow these tips from the National Christmas Tree Association to keep your tree fresh through the season. Keep your tree in a reservoirtype tree stand. Use a stand with adequate capacity for your tree -one quart of water per inch of stem diameter. Don’t whittle the sides down to fit your stand. Make a fresh cut to remove a half inch of wood from the base of the trunk before putting it in the stand. Don’t cut at an angle or a V-shape, which reduces the tree’s ability to drink.

While you’re perusing your local tree lot, keep in mind the decorations you plan to use. If you have a flair for the dramatic and have larger bulbs and baubles, choose trees with sturdy branches and lots of space in between. Delicate, small ornaments can hang on slender, dense branches.

History of Black Friday Did you lack Friday marks the unofficial start of the know? holiday shopping season. Come Black Friday,

shoppers strive to get the lowest prices on gifts for their loved ones. Much of the focus of Black Friday is on finding the best deals, but it can be interesting to take a breath and learn how this phenomenon developed and how it has evolved over the years.

“Black Friday”

The term “black Friday” was originally associated with gold prices and manipulation on the part of speculators Jay Gould and James Fisk. This scandal occurred in September 1869. Commodity prices plummeted 50 percent as a result, and the term “black Friday” was coined to refer to that drop. The phrase “black Friday” also became famous for all the wrong reasons in 1966. Philadelphia police used it to refer to the Friday traffic jams and crowding in downtown stores from tourists and shoppers who flooded into the city in advance of the Army-Navy football game held the Saturday after Thanksgiving each year. Bigger crowds and rowdiness contributed to long hours and stressful shifts for local police.

Black Friday reinvented

The retail industry started using the term “Black Friday” in the late 1980s. Spin doctors turned previously negative connotations into positive ones by associating the phrase with stores turning a profit and moving accounting ledgers from “red to black” thanks to big year-end sales. Retailers and consumers rallied around low-cost

“doorbusters” and other discounted prices. Interestingly enough, according to the National Retail Federation, Black Friday really hasn’t been the most lucrative day for retailers over the years. In fact, greater profits and larger crowds are often seen on the last Saturday preceeding Christmas.

Shopping weekend evolves

While Black Friday may have been the catalyst, in recent years shoppers have made the entire weekend of Black Friday a lucrative one for retailers. Many stores now open on Thanksgiving and extend sales through the entire weekend. Small Business Saturday and Sunday promote patronizing momand-pop stores. Parties are highly anticipated events come the holiday season. Office parties, gatherings with friends and family celebrations are just some examples of the many soirees that dot the social schedules of millions of people between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. Shop Local Facts Shopping local has become on trend thanks in large part to nationwide marketing campaigns. In fact, Small Business Saturday has become a shopping holiday in its own right — and fares well against its more big-box competitors Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This is what it means to shop local in the United States.

But did you also know that small businesses accounted for more than half the jobs that have been created in the last decade? • Additionally, small businesses donate 250 percent more than corporate businesses to non-profits and to community-based causes, according to the Seattle Good Business Network. • While some shoppers won’t purchase items directly on Shop Small Saturday, the shopping holiday has definitely increased small business awareness. People have begun to shop small on other days and more consistently throughout the year.

That year, the event was sponsored and promoted by American Express to encourage the growth of small businesses. • Small Business Saturday took a dip in 2017, both in foot traffic and in overall dollars spent. The shopping holiday saw 108 million shoppers who spent approximately $12.9 billion, which according to the National Federation of Independent Business and American Express, is 4 million shoppers and more than $3 billion less than the year before. • The state-by-state breakdown of the day shows that a majority of participation was through restaurants and bars, with 41 percent of people dining local. Holiday Color Trends

e’ve seen purple everywhere in 2018, and holiday displays won’t likely be any different. In fact, the Pantone color of 2018 is ultra-violet, a dramatic and eye-catching shade of purple.

Here are some more combinations you’re likely to see around the trees.

Eclectic

Anything goes in this mix-andmatch decorating style that combines colors, styles and cultures for a gloriously glam holiday look. While it may look extraordinarily complicated, the key to eclectic style is really to keep things as simple as possible. Don’t look for fancy card holders, just stick them up with plain old tape. Do try to group together like colors once in a while to give the eye a break and remember that these spaces have to be lived in, too. Place your decor accordingly.

Rose gold

Another color that’s been everywhere is rose gold. Pair this soft pink metallic with vivid purples for a dramatic look or pale pink for a toned down, feminine look. Look for rose gold versions of traditional metal holiday decor, like candlesticks, but also in tree ornaments or even whole trees.

Blue & white

He has signs of old abuse and neglect but this had no effect on his love for people. Needs some training. He will require a cat free home, but does well with most dogs. Waffle is very fond of kids, but he has a tendency to jump. Help us find this people loving dog his furrever home.
