All of us are devastated by the war in Israel, and our hearts go out to everyone in our community who has been personally impacted. We know that, at times like these, it’s more important than ever to come together in community. This winter, we are offering a wide range of programs that we hope will bring us together so we can support one another, learn from one another, and enjoy each other’s company. Our family-friendly New Year's at Noon event is back on Sunday, December 31 from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm (see page 6). This popular program is co-sponsored by PJ Library, and activities will include a bounce house, snacks, and our Noon countdown beach ball drop! In mid-March, PJ Library will be presenting a family Purim event, as well. If your family isn’t already participating in PJ Library, please visit our website to learn more and sign-up (see pages 4 and 12). Shortly after the new year, we’ll be offering Fitness Palooza on January 6 and 7 (see page 16). We are planning to have a wide range of free group exercise classes, including aquatic group exercise. We’ll be offering free childcare, filled with fun activities for kids. In addition, we’ll have a special program presented by Move Strong Physical Therapy, a Red Cross Blood Drive, chair massages, and much, much more! Stay tuned for more details about this fun program. We are excited about the wide range of cultural arts programs planned for this winter. While some details are still being finalized, I can share a bit about what is planned. Early in the winter, we plan to have a cholent cooking demonstration and tasting. “Cholent” is a traditional, slow-cooking Shabbat stew in Jewish cuisine. In February, we are delighted to present an exhibition of art by Adi Einstein in our gallery. We’ll also be partnering with White Bird Dance to present a dance workshop featuring the dance company Music from the Sole which celebrates tap dancing’s Afro-diasporic roots. On March 17, we will feature the Amos Hoffman and Noam Lemish Quartet, which offers an inspired blend of jazz and Jewish folk melodies. They were exceptionally well-received during their last MJCC concert, a number of years ago, and we’re pleased to bring them back. To round things out, we’ll be screening a number of Jewish-themed and/or Israeli films in the coming months (see page 7 for more details). As you probably know, the MJCC is a non-profit agency, and we depend on donations to cover our operating costs. We also look for opportunities to reduce expenses, especially as the recent, significant increase in the costs of labor, equipment, and supplies has created financial challenges for us. In order to save over $25,000 annually, we are implementing a fee of 2.5% if you choose to pay your membership fee using a credit or debit card. We encourage you to pay directly from your bank account in order to avoid this charge. The money that we save on credit card fees will enable us to invest in other areas, including staff, programming, and facility upgrades. This fee will begin with our January dues. Thank you for your active involvement in our community. We look forward to seeing you at the J!

SUPPORT THE MJCC!

Ensure the future of the MJCC by giving a Legacy gift.

Here are a few ways you can support the J:

Your support allows us to enrich lives, build community, and inspire Jewish journeys. The Mittleman Jewish Community Center is a non-profit that is recognized by the community as a safe and welcoming place for thousands to gather, work-out, play, and commune. Please consider becoming a donor. Your gift of any size is needed and appreciated. We offer programs and services for little ones who have just joined our community, to older adults well into their 90s and everyone in between. Hundreds of MJCC members, guests, and community members come through our doors for programs, services, and events on a daily basis. Membership, program fees, and rentals account for approximately 86% of our annual revenue, and we are dependent upon donations and grants to make up the difference.

Here is what your generous tax-deductible donation to the MJCC supports: • New equipment in our fitness center, gymnasium and studios; • Day Camp scholarships; • Cultural and holiday programming that celebrates our Jewish community; • Need-based financial assistance to ensure that everyone has access; • Competitive salaries to retain staff and trainers that are the face of the JCC; • Updates to the ballroom and the lobby and so much more!

• Become a member The Friends of the Center Society by donating $360 or more. Friends of the Center Society members get invited to exclusive events and programs throughout the year; • Donate appreciated stock or a minimum retirement distribution and avoid capital gains (please discuss with your tax professional); • Become a Sustaining Member for $1800/year (tax deduction depends on your membership cost); • Add a monthly donation on to your membership; and • Join the MJCC Legacy Society. You can support the JCC with an afterlife gift from your will, trust, retirement plan, IRA, or life insurance policy.

Thank you for your support of the Mittleman Jewish Community Center. Donate at oregonjcc.org/donate. For more information about how you can support the J, please contact Bess Butterworth, Development Events and Community Programs Manager at bbutterworth@oregonjcc.org or at 503.452.3427.

Over the years, our programs and services have evolved and expanded, but our mission remains unchanged - to be an inclusive and welcoming hub for a diverse community, fostering lifelong wellness and providing dynamic social and educational experiences, grounded in Jewish values and culture.

JCCA Membership Perk

As a member of JCCA, the Mittleman Jewish Community Center enjoys many perks. One perk is mutual reciprocation with membership at other JCCA member facilities. The MJCC welcomes all out-oftown JCC members for a maximum of 14 non-consecutive days per calendar year. After 14 days, we have a special offer of $12 per day per person. Members of the MJCC will enjoy reciprocal membership at other JCCA facilities according to that location’s specific policy. Make sure to bring your member ID card!
