GENERAL INFORMATION

Fall 2012: Sept. 2 - Dec. 29, 2012

Dear friends, The MJCC has carved out an incredible line-up of classes, programs and events for your friends, family and YOU! While the weather may still be warm, we are all getting ready to fall into a new season. Whether you’re preparing for back to school time, getting ready for the Jewish holidays or falling back into a regular exercise routine, the MJCC has you covered. With that in mind, we’ve created a new adult fitness class called “Fit It In.” This twice weekly half-hour class promises a robust start to your day. Plus with our towels and locker room amenities, there are no more excuses for not getting in that workout (sorry)! But if you’d like fitness to be a family affair, we’ve got that covered too! Whether you come with your partner or with the kids, there’s something for everyone. Why not try a “Date Night” 30 or 60-minute workout? Don’t consume calories, burn them! Also this November, join us for “Creating Healthy Families,” a guided learning and family recess class that gets everyone moving and grooving! Who doesn’t love recess? The fall calendar is full of Jewish holidays. In September Come Blow Your Horn at our event that will get us all ready and excited for the Rosh Hashanah celebration. Naturally we’ll follow this with our annual Sukkah Building event with our partners at PJA and The PJ Library. Grown-ups will wield the hammers and drills and kids can create decorations for the Sukkah. Come celebrate the end of summer with us at Splashtacular! We’ll enjoy good music, fun friends, water games and plenty of sunshine! The perfect way to end a beautiful summer. Be sure to check out all of the wonderful social and cultural events and classes planned this fall from Jewish Book Month to Melton Classes at the J, from Bistro Nights to Art with the Geezer Gallery. And as always, we’re open to your suggestions. I look forward to seeing you at the J very soon.

In 70 CE, nine hundred Jews held out for months against armies of Romans on a mountain in the Judean desert, Masada. Only two women and five children survived. Based on this tragic and iconic event, Hoffman weaves a spellbinding tale of four extraordinary bold, resourceful, and sensuous women, each of whom comes to Masada by a different path. All are dovekeepers, and all are also keeping secrets — about who they are, where they come from, who fathered them, and who they love.

Over five years in the writing, The Dovekeepers is Alice Hoffman’s most ambitious and mesmerizing novel, a tour de force of imagination and research, set in ancient Israel.

By permission of Ariel Sabar, author of My Father’s Paradise.
