As our summer season comes to a close, we are celebrating a highly successful camp season. Our days were filled with games, crafts, swimming, outdoor play, rock climbing, and more! We are excited to build off of this summer’s success with an expanded Vacation Day Camp program that will be offered during vacations and holidays throughout the year. Space is limited so be sure to register early.

We are also pleased to continue the expansion of our group exercise class offerings. First, we’re adding lots of options to strengthen your core.

From Senior Core – a gentle, introductory class that focuses on your core, to Intermediate Core – offering a mix of low-intensity and high-intensity exercises, to Advanced Core – specifically for conditioned individuals with experience doing high-intensity cardio workouts and weights, we’ve got a class for you!

Second, we know that many of you want more intensive options, and we’ve added two new HIIT (high-intensity interval training) classes. Our morning HIIT class offers a classic approach, while Greatest HIITs provides a variety of workout approaches, incorporating HIIT, weights, balance, and core work.

Third, the return of our Tai Chi classes enables you to work on balance, strength, and mindfulness. In total, our 55 weekly group exercises classes, including Nia, Zumba, yoga, Pilates, cycle, aquatics exercise classes, and more, ensure that there is something for everyone!

As we continue to expand our services, we are pleased to announce the return of evening drop-in childcare. This service is available during our evening group exercise classes to better serve families with young children. We want to make it as easy as possible for everyone to attend some ofour new classes!

Another way that we’re focused on serving young families is through our afterschool classes for youth and children. Explore our fall offerings, and check out the newest ones, including golf!

Last, but certainly not least, we have been inundated with requests for pickleball, the nation’s fastest-growing sport. We heard you, and we’re delighted to launch adult weekend pickleball this fall.

We’re doing our best to give you more and more reasons to come to campus, and we hope to see you soon!

Aquatics Program We offer a comprehensive aquatics program. We have a 25-yard lap pool and a Warm Water Pool which is ideal for relaxation, recuperation, and recreation.

Both pools offer ADA-compliant accessibility lifts for those who need assistance getting in and out of the water.

Our staff can show you how the lifts operate and can even assist you.

About Swim Lessons Group Lessons

We are scheduling group lessons for members-only on a month-by-month basis.

New for Fall 2022

Swim lessons have a reduced swimmerto-instructor ratios: which means more instructional time for every swimmer!

Warm Water Pool (92 - 94°) Monday - Friday: 7:30 am - 8:00 pm Saturday + Sunday: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm

Current region- and nation-wide aquatics staff shortages have kept our programs small as we work to hire and train instructors in order to offer the quality lesson programs we all love. We post monthly lessons on our website and include them in our weekly "What's Happening" email. Thank you for your patience as we work through these challenges!

Private + Semi-Private Lessons

Please refer to pool schedules at oregonjcc.org/pools for weekly lap, open recreational swim, adultsonly swim, and program times.

Private and semi-private lessons may be scheduled in either pool, and are based on swim instructor availability, participant's schedule, and pool space. Availability may change each program session. When capacity is reached, new requests will not be accepted. Any requests submitted prior to reaching capacity will be held on a wait list.

Pool Accessibility Lift

Our Main Pool lift is self-operated and has a weight capacity of 300 pounds.

Our Warm Water Pool lift is operated by our staff and has a weight limit of 250 pounds.

Private: 5 x 1/2 hour (one-on-one) Cost: $255. Member Cost: $180.

Semi-private: 5 x 1/2 hour (one instructor to two students) Cost: $188. Member Cost: $125.

Swim Teams

Stingrays Swim Team (Ages 6 - 18) Develop proper technique, learn the basics of competitive swimming to participate in USA Swimming meets, and make new friends. Prerequisites: Must be able to swim 100 yards each of freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. Main Pool Contact Aquatics Manager, Jennie Condon at jcondon@oregonjcc.org.

Fall tryouts will be held Thursday, September 29 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.

Quarterly tryouts will be held December 8, March 16, and June 22.

Junior Rays (Pre-Swim Team ages 5+) For those interested in pursuing swimming as a sport, start the transition from lessons to competition. Focus on technique and learn all four competitive strokes in a team environment.

Prerequisites: Must be able to confidently swim 25 yards each of freestyle and backstroke, and take direction in a group of 10 - 12 swimmers from a coach who is generally on-deck. Main Pool All tryout dates are the same as listed in Stingrays above.

JUNIOR RAYS

Monday - Thursday: 4:45 - 5:30 pm Cost: $110/month.

2022 JCC Maccabi Games® Oregon Teens Competed in San Diego Team Oregon just finished competing in the 2022 games!

Maccabi Canada, and Maccabi USA/Sports for Israel.

Over the last few years, the MJCC has been honored to bring around 75 Oregon teens to participate in the JCC Maccabi experience.

As managing partner for JCC Maccabi Games®, JCC Association works closely with the host communities and their local JCCs to develop this transformative Jewish-identity and community-building program.

The MJCC athletes competed in 3 on 3 basketball and tennis.

From the moment they march into Opening Ceremonies with their delegation at the kickoff of JCC Maccabi®, teens know they are in for something special.

The week is filled with competition in a sport they love, the excitement of meeting new friends from all over the world, giving back through community service, and discovering a connection to Israel and the Jewish world unlike anything they’ve ever experienced before.

This Olympic-style sporting event for Jewish teens ages 13-16 is held every summer. More than 2,000 athletes from delegations across North America, Europe, Latin America, Israel, and beyond attend the competition. Hosted by communities around the country, they compete in team or individual sports and participate in social activities and social action projects rooted in Jewish values.

Adult Drop-in Pickleball

Join MJCC members and guests for organized adult drop-in play on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons from 12:00 - 2:00 pm. All skill levels are welcome! Women’s drop-in basketball is every Thursday from 8:45 - 10:00 am.

Please inquire at the Welcome Desk for more information. Free for members.

Drop-in open play time for all ages.

Shoot some hoops or start a pick-up game with other members. Usually available three or four afternoons a week, plus Sunday mornings. Please see our weekly Gymnasium Schedule as these days can change monthly.

Play in a gymnasium using plastic sticks, a felt puck, and sneakers.

JCCA Membership Perk

As a member of JCCA, the Mittleman Jewish Community Center enjoys many perks. One perk is mutual reciprocation with membership at other JCCA member facilities. The MJCC welcomes all out-oftown JCC members for a maximum of 14 non-consecutive days per calendar year.

After 14 days, we have a special offer of $12 per day per person. Members of the MJCC will enjoy reciprocal membership at other JCCA facilities according to that location’s specific policy. Make sure to bring your member ID card!

Enrollment FAQs

• You may register online or in person at the Welcome Desk.

• Payment must be provided at time of registration to guarantee a spot.

• If participants miss a class, they are not allowed to drop into other classes.

If a class or program is cancelled due to inclement weather or other cause, we are unable to schedule make-up sessions or provide refunds.

Accommodating Waitlists

All programs operate with minimum enrollment requirements and maximum enrollment capacities. We reserve the right to cancel, change, or combine programs when minimum program enrollments have not been met. Once a program is filled, a waitlist will be created. You will be called if an opening becomes available or if additional classes are created. Waitlists are accommodated first come, first serve. Note: If additional classes are created, they may not be at the same time or day as the original program.

Inclement Weather and Building Closures

If a class or program is cancelled due to inclement weather or other cause, we are unable to schedule make-up sessions or provide refunds if requested during the current program guide session.

Cancellation Policy

A full refund will be given when the MJCC cancels a program. A full refund will also be given if a participant requests to drop a class (excluding MJCC camps) with at least 24 hours before the first class.

The MJCC reserves the right to cancel, change, or combine programs at any time.

The MJCC is a proud beneficiary of the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland and is proud of our partnership with it in strengthening our local Jewish community and the greater Portland community.

Cafe at the J - Great Nosh!

Cafe at the J is Portland’s only kosher dairy restaurant certified by Oregon K, and offers sandwiches, soups, salads, pizza, falafel, pasta, bagels, and more!

It is located inside the MJCC. Surf the net while you enjoy the cafe with our free wifi.

Order Shabbat and Kosher meals online each week for pickup.
