Things To Do in the Santa Ynez Valley

OF SANTA YNEZ STORY THE

The Santa Ynez Valley is located in Santa Barbara County, California, between the Santa Ynez Mountains to the south and the San Rafael Mountains to the north. The valley was first inhabited by the Chumash Native Americans, who were later joined by the Spaniards during the era when Spain owned California. After Spain turned California over to the Mexican government, Mexicans moved into the Valley. The new town founded east of the Santa Inés Mission came to be called “Santa Ynez.” The settlers did not know Spanish, so they spelled “Inés” as “Ynez.”

Today, the valley has a population of about 20,000 residents living in the communities of Solvang, Los Olivos, Santa Ynez, Buellton, and Ballard.

Surrounded by rolling hills and orderly rows of grape vines, the area offers a mix of scenic beauty, history and culinary delights. Discover the Valley’s deeply rooted Chumash history and connection to the county’s early Spanish settlers, get a taste of country-style feasting, and savor the wines of the Central Coast in dreamy vineyard settings.

Whether you’re a wine enthusiast, outdoor adventurer, or someone seeking a relaxed countryside experience, the Santa Ynez Valley has something to offer. The combination of small-town charm, vineyard landscapes, and cultural attractions makes it a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.
