Mount Lucas Road, 288, a family story.
I came from Manhattan, my husband to-be came from Heidelberg, Germany. After living in a rented house on Jefferson Road for about a year, we were clear that we wanted to remain in this section of Princeton. The elementary school down the road, and the middle school just blocks away were an easy bike ride for our sons. The proximity to the Princeton pool complex now beautifully modernized and the easy walk or ride to the shopping center, were among the attractions of the neighborhood. The house, of course, was very appealing. Sitting a bit forward on the property afforded us a spacious backyard with beautiful, majestic mature trees.
Our home hosted many family events, not the least of which was our wedding ceremony and reception in the backyard. Friends and family came from Germany and New York.Aclergy friend of ours performed an interfaith ceremony and my old college friend brought an Italian wedding cake from Brooklyn. Musicians from Westminster college provided lovely chamber music and a local caterer served up wonderful food. We soon had two more children who began their lives in this home, who studied music at Westminster Choir College and with local musicians. Our growing extended family of now up to forty members, celebrates a holiday party here every winter, bringing their food offerings in addition to our cooking, singing songs and enjoying a holiday play which I wrote to be performed by the children.
We held anniversary celebrations on the back lawn, and our daughter’s high school graduation party with 100 teens in attendance and a DJ (with a preapproved permit from the police) were among the many milestone events we hosted.

We have made many improvements to the home, to render it comfortable and inviting, not the least of which is our windowed back porch, which, with a gas stove, allows us to have winter holiday dinners there, often surrounded by snow outside and holiday decorations. The last change we made was to install a gate for our current pooch, Ginger, a lab/Rhodesian ridgeback/Pitbull mix who is very chill and who relishes the now fully gated yard, a space all our children enjoyed, on their playsets or simply having a game of catch or running under a hose in the summer heat.
We have married and raised four children in this home. Our adult children and our grandchildren now return often for visits. This home has given us many moments of pleasure and we have filled it with fun and love. It is our time to leave, and we wish those whose turn it is to next occupy 288 Mount Lucas Road, to enjoy health, happiness, and a good life as we have had.
