In 1948 William Frack’s father took him to his first University men’s basketball game, and in “two minutes [he] was hooked” and 62 years later he may have paved the way for the revival of a program that hasn’t made a trip to the NCAA tournament since 1968. Wednesday night Frack’s passion for the men’s basketball program resulted in the largest, single private gift in University history — a $10 million endowment that will be used solely for the men’s basketball program. The gift is also the largest one-time gift ever designated to a Mid-American Conference basketball program. Frack’s vision for the donation is that it will someday not only turn the program into a MAC power, but also one of the elite mid-major teams in the country. “We need more money for recruiting, and for getting better games,” Frack said. “The coaches have been operating with one hand tied behind their back. Hopefully this will correct that. It won’t be overnight, but I think the University will get there. If Butler can do it, if Gonzaga can do it — if they can do it — then by gosh Bowling Green can do it.”

GROUNDS FOR THOUGHT

“This will take this program to the next level,” University Athletic Director Greg Christopher said. “This sets a new bar for this program — it sets a new bar for the University. It raises the sights for our fans; it raises the sights for our program; and it raises the sights for our alumni.” Christopher said the endowment will allow the program to better compensate coaches, elevate nonconference competition, allow for more home games and increase recruiting resources, among other advantages. However, the endowment isn’t an immediate gift, as it’s a series of Charitable Remainder Annuity Trusts that will be distributed after Frack’s death. The Findlay-Hancock Community Foundation will serve as the trustee for the for fund established by Frack’s estate plan and will distribute to the permanent “William D. Frack Division I Men’s Basketball Endowment Fund” in annual payments. It’s not the first time Frack has reached out to the University. In 2008 he provided one of the leadership gifts to help with the build-

Rave Motion Pictures wants students to think of their theater at Levis Commons as an affordable option, and a recent underwhelming promotion has not deterred the company from its goal. The promotion awarded the first 500 students buying tickets with a “bounce back ticket” at Rave Motion Pictures Levis Commons 12, according to Casey Pogan, marketing director for the Town Center at Levis Commons. “If you came and bought a ticket to go see a movie and showed your ID, you got a ticket to come back for free another time,” Pogan said. The bounce back promotion ran every Thursday starting at the end of September but was opened up to every night by the middle of October, she said. Vice President of Marketing for Rave Motion Pictures Jeremy Devine said Rave would like to try the promotion again at a later date because September may have been too busy for students.

“Kids are just coming back, you have a lot of parties, you have a lot of new classes—that may be too cluttered,” he said. While the promotion was not overwhelmingly successful, Devine said Rave thought the response was decent. “I would have loved it to have had the problem where we were out of vouchers,” he said. “It was close to 500 as I recall, but it wasn’t like we had a report that [said] ‘Wow, we could have given away 3 times as many of these.’” “It wasn’t like we had 1,400 people saying ‘Daaamn, I was too late,” he said.
