University class helps food pantry through can-goods donations By Max Filby Reporter
The University class Leadership BG has the number 2,010 on their minds. The number 2,010 marks the donation goal the class hopes to reach by the University’s spring football game on April 16, 2010 for the Cans of Caring BG fundraiser. The group is relying on donations from students and community members, with proceeds and donations going to the Christian Food Pantry in Bowling Green. The student group will receive help from Meijer with donated collection boxes for the fundraiser. “Things like this — people donating — is what really helps,� said Shirley Woessner, director of the BG Christian Food Pantry. “We just had the HeeBeeBGs donate a ton of food too.� The BG Leadership stu-
has turned into one of the top teams in the nation. Since joining the RedHawks coaching staff, Begeron has helped guide a program that has made six NCAA tournaments and put together eight 20-win seasons. Miami has also had a berth in the past two Frozen Fours. Bergeron was selected after a nation-wide search which began in January, according to BGSU Athletic Director Greg Christopher. Alzheimer’s, a brain disorder in which the body destroys brain cells causing memory loss, has no cure, but scientists and researchers say art therapy can help patients recall memories and stay lucid longer. Douglas Blevins, of Port Clinton, Ohio, has been living with Alzheimer’s for 11 years. Douglas, 69, and his wife Marian ignored the symptoms for four years before they finally went to the doctor. By then, Douglas’ Alzheimer’s had advanced from moderate to severe. Unfortunately, his Alzheimer’s had advanced too far for him to be a candidate for art therapy.
