BGSTRAPS SIZE GUIDE
What size strap does my watch need? Lug widths by brand and model, how to measure, and the fitments that catch people out.
The one measurement that matters: lug width Lug width is the distance in millimetres between the two lugs - the horns of the case where the strap attaches. Measure the gap the strap has to fill, not the lugs themselves. It is the number every strap is sold by. Most watches fall between 18mm and 24mm, and 20mm and 22mm cover a large share of them. Odd sizes such as 19mm and 21mm are more common than people expect, especially on some Rolex, Omega and TAG Heuer models - so never assume.
How to measure in about a minute 1. Use a ruler with a millimetre scale, or a cheap digital caliper. 2. Turn the watch over and remove or ignore the current strap. 3. Measure the inside distance between the two lugs. 4. Round to the nearest whole millimetre - that is your lug width.
Check the fitment before you buy Integrated / proprietary fitments Patek Philippe Nautilus and Aquanaut, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, Bell & Ross BR 05 and most Hublot models use a strap end shaped for that model only. Buy a strap made for your exact watch, not by width alone. Curved-end (fitted) straps Many dive and sports watches, such as the Rolex Submariner or Omega Seamaster, need a curved end that hugs the case. It is still sized by lug width, but the end shape must match the case.
Common lug widths by brand and model A strong starting point, not gospel: case sizes and specifications change across a model line, so always confirm by measuring your own watch.

Two more sizes worth knowing Strap length Straps come in standard, long and sometimes short lengths. If your wrist is particularly slim or large, check the total length and the number of holes before buying. Taper and thickness Many straps taper from the lug width to a narrower buckle - a 22mm strap might taper to 20mm. Chunky sports watches carry thick straps well; slim dress watches suit something more restrained.
