Rowing

From the Summer Term of Year 8, all students are given the opportunity to try out this uniquely demanding and rewarding sport. Enjoyment, teamwork and commitment are at the heart of the Boat Club at BGS, and the coaching team aim to achieve success on the water through a combination of these key values.

From Year 9, students can elect to row in their timetabled lessons and take part in a comprehensive programme of before and after school rowing and fitness sessions. These include Saturday morning sessions around the year. The rowing squad take part in competitions across the year both locally and nationally. Each year students enjoy a residential rowing camp to provide intensive training ahead of the summer regatta session.

We have achieved success at national and international level on the water, with GB representation at Junior level, and medallists at National Schools Regatta and Henley Women’s Regatta since the Boat Club formed. Rowing at BGS has also opened up the opportunity for some of our students to be offered rowing scholarships at US universities. We are proud to offer one of the most competitive programmes in girls’ only schools in the UK.

We are supported by our parent community who provide assistance and fund-raising opportunities across the year.

Please note there are some additional fees related to the rowing programme.
