Co-Curriculum Programme 2026-27
IN TRODUCTION Dear Students, We are delighted to introduce this year’s co-cur riculum programme, we hope you will find the range of c lubs and activities on of fer exciting and stimulating.
For our younger students, it is helpful if parents can spend some time reviewing the booklet with you to help take a balanced approach. The Junior School sections are clearly marked, although some Senior School clubs are also open to Years 5 and 6 students.
The co-cur riculum is an integral par t of your BGS education, it extends attributes you are developing in the classroom and helps build the skills that you will need to grow into confident, open-minded and resilient young adults. Often it is the cocur ricular experiences that our alumnae tell us that they remember most from their school days. These oppor tunities are where new passions are found, knowledge is embedded and life-long friendships are for med. It is a vital par t of your education and we expect all of our students to be actively engaged.
You will register for your chosen activities during the first two weeks of ter m using the SOCS platfor m. We are flexible and understand that some of you may change your minds and want to tr y a number of dif ferent activities over the year. This is fine as long as it is communicated to the staf f r unning the activities and you appreciate that some activities may fill up sooner than others. We do hope you enjoy reviewing the dif ferent activities. We are always keen to consider new ideas so please talk to your For m Tutors if you feel there is something missing.
Throughout your time at BGS, the cocur ricular programme will help you build a broader range of skills and collaborate with a wider group of teachers and students. Although we recognise the extra demands on your time in the GCSE years, students in Years 10 and 11 are still encouraged to commit to a regular activity. Sixth For m students take par t in the Creativity, Activity and Ser vice (CAS) programme and, as well as car r ying out activities of their own, Sixth For mers are encouraged to par ticipate in leading activities for our younger students.

Sp o r t The PE Depar tment aims to of fer an enjoyable and dynamic experience of spor t that results in students wanting to become fully involved in as many activities as possible, whilst still making as muc h progress and development in their c hosen spor ts. We aim to of fer as many students as possible the oppor tunity to play inter-school fixtures which take place after school and on a Saturday. All students aspiring to represent the School need to be able to commit to all lunchtime and after school practices as well as fixtures. If you have a clash please discuss with a member of the PE team. Please check the fixture list carefully as this is now fixed for the new academic year. If any of these dates create dif ficulties for your daughter once she has decided upon her choices, please infor m the PE depar tment as soon as possible. In order to gain the most from the spor ting oppor tunities that are available to your daughter, it is impor tant that she is able to make a commitment to the sessions, whether she considers herself to be a relative beginner or someone with more experience. We would like ever yone to step out of their comfor t zone and achieve fulfilment on an individual level as well as being able to help the School teams to achieve success too.
08
The venues are listed on the spor ting timetable that follows and students should nor mally be collected from the venues at the end of the session. Late Care in school is available until 7pm. If, after a spor ts session, your daughter is waiting in Late Care she must ensure she goes straight to the LRC as soon as her session finishes. Please ensure that you and your daughter are clear where the activity takes place and what time it ends. If you have any queries, please contact the PE Depar tment. Please note that rowing timetables will be emailed to the students directly. In order to c larify the timetable opposite, the following table explains the age groups in relation to your daughter’s year group. Most sessions are open to all in the specified year groups, some however are by invitation only. Student and Parent Guide to Using SOCS Co-Cur ricular, Music and Tuition
How to sign up to SOCS Cur ricular Key Dates Sign-up opens at 8am on 3rd September. Sign-up closes at 23:59 on 20th September. Senior School Clubs Fayre will take place on 15th September from 1pm in the Spor ts Hall. impor tant students attend. Spor ts Clubs, Dance, Music and Speech and Drama Lessons : star t on 7th September All other co-cur ricular club: star t on 21st September.
Additional Infor mation for Junior Sc hool students For Junior School Clubs that take place after-school, parental authorisation is required. Parents need to give authorisation for after-school clubs via SOCS from 3rd September until 23:59 on 8th September. Junior School pupils will still be able to edit or change their own choices and sign-up to other clubs until 20th September.
Infor mation for all Students Once you have signed up to a club, this may not guarantee you a place, for example if the club is ver y popular. If this is the case, staf f will contact you and tr y to resolve this so that you may be able to attend in a dif ferent ter m for example. If a club says ‘invite only’ for example, auditioned groups, then the club leader will add your name to the registers for this club, you will not be able to sign yourself up for these clubs. If you want to join or leave a club following the end of the sign-up period (20th September), you will need to speak to the club leader who will be able to do this for you.
Music, Paid for Dance Lessons and LAMDA If you take par t in either Music, Dance or LAMDA lessons, you will not sign-up to these using SOCS this year. Sign-up will take place using previous procedures, but lessons and classes will be added to SOCS in September and therefore will become visible on timetables and activity lists.
15
Logging on and the SOCS Dashboard 1. From either the parent portal or student portal or isams portal (parents only) click on the SOCS logo. 2. This may take you to the SOCS Sport Page where you will need to click on the SOCS Login Button.
3. Then click the relevant Pupil or Parent button:
4. This will take you to the SOCS dashboard. Here you can navigate to your timetable, view the activities on offer and check fixtures, or music and LAMDA lessons using the buttons on the left.
6. To view all the clubs that are open to you, click on the black ‘View Activities’ Button in the Sign-Up box.
5. To view and sign up to clubs, click on the blue ‘Activities’ Button. This takes you to the Activities page.
Clubs you have signed up for
16
Viewing Clubs 7. Once you have clicked ‘View Activities’, it will open the information box. Please read this and then scroll down to the clubs open to you. 8. The clubs are categorised by time and day. You can only join one club in each category to avoid joining clubs that clash with each other. 9. Click on the grey expanding arrows to see what clubs are available during each time slot. You will see information about each club. 10. At the bottom of the list, there is a ‘back’ button to return you to the list of days and times.
Signing-up to Clubs 11. During the sign-up window, select the clubs you wish to join by pressing the ‘Add’ button. 12. A pop-up window appears where you confirm your choice by clicking on the blue ‘Add Activity’ button. This window also shows any other clubs that you have already signed yourself up to, or been added to a register by a teacher, for example if you are a cast member in a show. 13. If you change your mind you will need to click the ‘Remove’ Button.
17
Invite Only Clubs 14. Clubs that require an audition or sports clubs that are selective will show in SOCS with red ‘Invite Only’ text. The club leader for these clubs will add your name to their registers and once this is done, they will show in your timetable and activities list as described below.
Your Own Timetable 15. Once you have signed up to your chosen clubs, they will then appear on your ‘Timetable’ and ‘Activities’ area of SOCS. Daily activities will also show on your Dashboard page. You may also receive notifications on your Dashboard page, for example if a fixture has changed or a club has moved rooms or been cancelled. It is therefore good to regularly check your SOCS dashboard. If on the rare occasion a club is very over-subscribed, the club leader will contact you and do their best to plan for you to attend either in another term or on a rota basis.
18
SOCS Co-Cur ricular FAQ’s Can I still view the c lubs on of fer after the sign-up period c loses? Yes. Once the sign-up period has closed, all clubs will still be visible via the ‘View Activities’ button.
Can I c hange my mind once I have signed up to a c lub? Yes, you can. During the sign-up period (3rd – 20th September), you can log into SOCS and change your selection of clubs by following steps 7 to 13 above. Once the sign-up period has closed you will need to speak to the teacher in charge of the club and they can either add or remove you from the registers.
If I can’ t make a session or am on a trip or ill, what should I do? If you can’t attend a session and are in school, please let your club leader know as early as you can. If you are out of school on a trip, or absent due to illness, this will already be recorded on isams and the teacher will be able to see this on their club registers.
If I want to join two c lubs whic h c lash, what can I do? If a club says ‘invite only’ for example, auditioned groups, then the club leader will add your name to the registers for this club, you will not be able to sign yourself up for these clubs.
I have a sister in a dif ferent year group, and her c lubs are dif ferent to mine, why is this? Only clubs that are open to your year group will appear in your SOCS pages. This means you get a personalised approach based on your year group.
If I have a Music, Dance or LAMDA lesson, whic h c lashes with a c lub what should I do? All music and LAMDA lessons will be loaded onto SOCS in the early par t of the Autumn Ter m. It will then show on your SOCS Dashboard. In the early par t of the ter m, your lessons may take a little time to appear, so it would be a good idea for you to note down when your lesson is and tr y to avoid joining other clubs at the same time. Remember, your ‘paid for’ lessons will take priority over other non-paid clubs.
I am usually par t of a c lub that is auditioned, suc h as Bel Canto or Babybels – how does this wor k? Your club leaders will ar range any audition or selection processes that are needed. If you are then successful, they will add your name to the club register, and it will then appear on SOCS for you. If you have any questions about joining an auditioned club, please speak to the club leader.
