Notes from Director

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to this evening’s performance of The Worst Witch, a story that celebrates individuality, resilience, and the quiet power of doing what is right, even when it’s difficult.
Our talented cast of Year 7 and 8 students have embraced the world of Miss Cackle’s Academy with imagination, commitment, and a genuine sense of joy. Their energy and creativity have brought each character vividly to life from the comic mishaps of Mildred Hubble to the stern watchfulness of Miss Hardbroom. This production has offered our students not only an artistic challenge, but also an opportunity to grow in confidence, collaboration and character and they have risen to that challenge with maturity and enthusiasm.
It has been a privilege to direct this production. Watching the students develop their roles and support one another throughout the rehearsal process has been both inspiring and rewarding. Their dedication to the craft, their generosity of spirit, and their willingness to push themselves creatively have been central to everything you will see on stage this evening.
This production has also been the result of outstanding teamwork behind the scenes, and I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to several individuals whose contributions have been invaluable. A huge thank you to Mr Page, Director of Music, without whom this production simply would not have been possible. His musical direction, unwavering support, and all-round good humour have been a cornerstone of the rehearsal process not to mention his memorable cameo as the Academy’s resident musician. It has been an absolute pleasure to work alongside him. Thank you also to Miss Dawson, who has worked tirelessly and with great skill to produce our set, lighting, and sound. Her attention to detail and creative flair have helped to conjure the magical world you see before you. And finally, a sincere thank you to Mrs Jennings, who curated the costumes and props with care and commitment before leaving her post. Her efforts have made a lasting contribution to the success of this show, and we are grateful for the strong foundation she helped establish.
And to the brilliant cast: thank you. Your energy, your humour, and your wholehearted commitment to this production have made every rehearsal a joy. You have brought Miss Cackle’s Academy to life, and it has been a privilege to watch you shine
Mr Stratton.
