Air Quality Services

BGE engineers and scientists know what it takes to help our clients comply with federal, state and local air-quality regulations while maintaining operational flexibility in highly competitive industries. These markets include petrochemical, pulp and paper, lumber, aluminum, carbon black and activated carbon production, oil and gas (upstream, midstream, downstream), power, food manufacturing and other manufacturing facilities.

Construction Management

At BGE, your project is our project. We work closely with general contractors and subcontractors, vigilantly protective of your best interests. We capably combine comprehensive engineering and construction expertise with increasingly sophisticated technology. We pour that mix into every endeavor. The result is a confident foundation and an efficient execution, delivered on time and on budget.

Environmental Services

As environmental concerns grow and regulations change, developing the built environment involves risk for project schedules and budgets. Land/Site Development

Any land/site development—whether it’s a master-planned community, an industrial business park or a mixed-use retail development—requires a deep comprehension of everything from infrastructure design to permitting. We understand the importance of tailoring needs to the characteristics of the land.

Whether 30 lots or thousands of acres, the design of paving and utility systems, mitigation of traffic impacts and navigating through local governmental agency approvals require experience and an understanding of the development business. BGE works to help developers with unique and customized solutions based on their goals and budgets. Our purpose is to help them imagine what is possible and guide them towards creating exceptional communities.

Planning + Landscape Architecture

BGE’s team of planners and landscape architects partner with our clients to create vibrant places where people naturally want to be. Understanding the vision for the project, development objectives and market and economic conditions require us to dial into the subtle nuances of our clients’ needs. This collaborative approach ensures a more thoughtful design, creating a strong sense of place.

THE GROVES Humble, TX

The Groves is a 1,000-acre, mixed-use, oneof-a-kind master-planned community located near Lake Houston centered around “Life in the Woods.” It contains beautiful homes and luxury amenities nestled into Piney Woods. The Groves has gone above and beyond to maintain and preserve as much natural landscape, wildlife and trees as possible.

BGE provided close coordination with the landscape architect and arborist to preserve as much wildlife as possible. We designed residential lots, residential and major thoroughfare streets, traffic signals, structural bridges and culvert crossings, stormwater modeling and design, commercial site planning and development; prepared preliminary and final plats; and performed construction phase services, surveying services and coordination with local governmental agencies.

IH 35 4B Waco, TX

Slated for completion in 2023, the IH 35 4B project is a 7-mile, $341 million, complete ROWto-ROW reconstruction of IH 35 in the heart of Texas. Considered the largest design-bid-build project in the state, TxDOT’s goals for the project include improving safety and mobility, adding capacity and reducing congestion, enhancing aesthetics and incorporating ITS technology. In addition, the project aims to improve access and connectivity to pedestrian and bike facilities in the cities of Waco and Bellmead.

This project entails the reconstruction and widening of 84 lane miles of concrete pavement, 22 bridges and 420,000 SF of retaining walls. Additionally, 55 major water and wastewater utilities, including 13 bores across IH 35 will be relocated.

BGE is the prime consultant for construction management and inspection services for this important project. With an accelerated pace of construction, BGE has successfully managed challenges with a clear communication strategy and a battle-tested team of problem solvers. BGE’s utility subject matter experts have provided countless solutions to complex utility relocation issues and have successfully helped the client reach 95 percent completion of relocations within the first year of construction.

2.0 MG ELEVATED STORAGE TANK

Prosper, TX

This project consists of a 2.0 mg composite elevated storage tank, site work and a 20-inch water line on 2-acre site. Located next to high voltage transmission lines, the BGE team performed a feasibility analysis for safe clearance distances, staged design survey, SUE and geotechnical investigations.

Public Works

As our communities grow, so do our infrastructure challenges, particularly when it comes to water management. Potable water for our homes and businesses, responsible wastewater discharge, safe stormwater drainage—these goals require experienced, strategic planning and sound engineering.

First, we listen to our clients’ objectives and concerns. Then, combining a thoughtful planning process with innovative execution, we provide timely, fiscally responsible solutions that meet the highest expectations of every stakeholder.

Technology Solutions

BGE offers a wide array of innovative technologies and tools to assist with workflow automation, data collection and analytics to help our clients make decisions. CAMBRIA CAVE

Williamson County, TX

A broken water pipe that caused a sinkhole in a roadway led to the discovery of a 200-foot-long cave that extended under two homes in the Brushy Creek subdivision. The cave presented various concerns to the County and residents of the community, including the safety of homes, preservation of the cave and the need to repair the roadway.

BGE performed a 3D survey of the cave to capture the cave’s dimensions, capturing imagery with thousands of LiDAR data points. BGE’s safety plan included confined space training for the crew, continuous air monitoring, on-site safety meetings and personal protective equipment. Team members rotated in and out of the cave in 30- to 45-minute shifts for the duration of the 8-hour process. BGE successfully performed the survey without incident.

BGE’s efforts provided the County not only with useful information so they could repair the roadway, but also a unique view from inside the cave that few people would be able to see otherwise.

Transportation Systems

Each transportation project has its own set of unique challenges. Fortunately, our tools are as comprehensive as our expertise. Whether your project is in an urban or rural environment, BGE delivers smart and cost-effective mobility solutions.

Our experience encompasses feasibility studies, alternatives analyses and schematic design for thoroughfare redevelopment, widening, reconstruction, new-location corridors, infill redevelopment and rural capacity improvements.

JUDGE JODIE STAVINOHA BRIDGE

Fort Bend County, TX

The path of destruction left behind by Hurricane Harvey in 2017 presented monumental challenges. One of the communities in need after the storm was located where SH 99 (Grand Parkway) crosses the Brazos River. Prior to Harvey, extreme rainfall in 2015 and 2016 accelerated erosion along the Brazos River at the hurricane evacuation route, eight-span, 1,200-foot Judge Jodie Stavinoha Bridge on SH 99. The bridge supports more than 25,000 commuters, travelers and residents daily.

With the 2017 hurricane season approaching, the Fort Bend Grand Parkway Toll Road Authority began a project to preserve and protect the abutment. Unfortunately, this project was no longer viable when the Brazos became engorged with a

record 55.2-foot flood level caused by Hurricane Harvey. The construction site was flooded, and the already heavily eroded riverbanks began to lose even more dirt as the water levels receded.

A solution to minimize roadway demolition, replacement pavement construction and construction duration, was the central element of the new design for large 10-foot-diameter drilled shafts constructed behind the existing abutment. These shafts were constructed deep enough to be cantilevered into stable soil. By eliminating the need for tiebacks farther away from the riverbank, the area of pavement demolition and replacement was greatly reduced.
