HYDROLOGY & HYDRAULICS SERVICES

As our communities grow, so do our infrastructure challenges when it comes to heavy down pours and flooding. BGE is the leader in planning and designing storm water facilities to reduce flood risk for existing homes and businesses and ensuring new infrastructure does not increase the flooding risk for the community. These goals require experienced, strategic planning and sound engineering. BGE delivers.

Estimated cost: $13.8M

• PER, final design, and PS&E bid documents for flood reduction
• 1D/2D XPSWMM, no adverse impact analysis with 2D HEC-RAS offsite drainage modeling
• Regraded roadside ditches and installed minimum 18-inch driveway culverts
• Designed surface area inlets and new storm sewers
• Provided 61 acre-feet of detention volume to mitigate downstream impacts
• Inverted siphon crossing under UPRR using jack-and-bore steel pipes to limit rail/pipeline disturbance

MERCER STORMWATER DETENTION BASIN PER HARRIS COUNTY FLOOD CONTROL DISTRICT
BGE worked with HCFCD from planning through design to deliver this large regional detention basin to meet strict grant funding construction deadlines.
Estimated cost: $12.4M
• H&H modeling, survey, SUE, and environmental services for basin design
• Provided 512 acre-feet of floodplain mitigation volume
• Evaluated wetlands and modified design to avoid jurisdictional wetlands
• Evaluated detention basin layout alternatives
• Project delivered with strict construction deadlines
HUNTING BAYOU CHANNEL IMPROVEMENTS
HARRIS COUNTY FLOOD CONTROL DISTRICT
BGE served as Engineer of Record, developing plans, bids, and construction support.
Estimated cost: $16.3M
• Designed three miles (13,000 feet) of channel improvements
• Designed concrete-lined low flow structures at existing roadway crossings
• Developed cross-sections, storm sewer profile, channel plan, and profile design sheets
• Removed, replaced, and adjusted more than 40 existing storm sewer outfalls

AVENUE P DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT
CITY OF SANTA FE, TX
BGE worked with the City of Santa Fe, Galveston County Drainage District #1, and Galveston County to deliver this grant-funded drainage improvement under budget.
Estimated cost: $1.75M
• H&H modeling, PS&E design, bid-phase, easement, and construction services
• 1D hydrodynamics SWMM, no-adverse impact analysis, 2D HEC-RAS offsite drainage modeling
• Identified structures with potential for flooding during the Atlas 14 100-year storm event
• Designed 8-ft×5-ft RCB storm sewer, lowering flood levels by over 2 feet and reducing risk for 208 structures
