SHOW SYNOPSIS

Based on the classic book by Roald Dahl, Willy Wonka JR tells the story of the famous candy inventor, Willy Wonka, and the chaos that ensues when he decides to open his factory gates to five lucky kids and their parents for a tour. The story follows a young boy named Charlie Bucket and his journey from poverty to winning the ultimate prize, and it is much greater than a lifetime supply of chocolate. Willy Wonka JR touches on the troubles that are brought about when kids are left to be spoiled and bossy, and also shows how you can make beautiful things with a touch of “pure imagination.”

DIRECTOR’S NOTES

Stars Theatre Restaurant and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County have joined forces in creating the ultimate youth theatrical experience in Kern County focused on skill building, confidence and leadership cultivation.

The curtain is drawn at Stars Theatre and the stage lights come on to reveal a cast of children posed against a colorful background.  This is the moment that all of the hard work and commitment pays off…our children are on stage and about to perform!  As part of our performing arts experience, our children are mentored by a team of performance educators with professional directors and choreographers; Glamorized by a costumer; Supported by sound engineers, stage crew and many other professionals working together so that when the curtain is up, our children are given a real theater experience of a professional production.

We are so grateful to work with your talented child(ren) and we hope that this is an experience that they will cherish use through adulthood.

ABOUT US

The Stage Door Academy by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County is an organization that specializes in the education of youth in the visual and performing arts.

The enrichment of our children in the visual and performing arts has benefits of improving the skills of acting, singing, dancing, painting, drawing and sculpting. However, the most fundamental benefits of studying the fine arts are promoting creativity, gaining social skills by working in teams, building self-confidence and encouraging individuality in self-expression. We view these benefits as invaluable assets to mold children into becoming successful adults.
