Thanks to everyone who joined us for Annual Celebration in January. The event was a huge success with fun networking and an amazing keynote entertainer—Rmax Goodwin. We also got a glimpse of our bright future watching Cora Morris, a third grader at Plano Elementary, provide a moving introduction for JudgeExecutive Mike Buchanon.

In February, we were thrilled to celebrate the groundbreaking for Tyson Foods’ new facility in the Kentucky Transpark, a project that will bring over 450 great jobs to Bowling Green!

March Coffee Hour A B O UT T H E S PE A K E R Edward Daniel “Dan” Cherry is the author of My Enemy, My Friend, a story of reconciliation from the Vietnam War. This inspiring book chronicles an intense 1972 dogfight between Dan’s F-4 Phantom and a North Vietnamese MiG-21 and his subsequent meeting and friendship with the MiG pilot, Nguyen Hong My. Dan is also Director Emeritus of Aviation Heritage Park, an educational facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky dedicated to inspiring the youth of today by exhibiting aviation artifacts that represent the careers of distinguished aviators from South Central Kentucky.

Dan Cherry

Dan developed his leadership and administrative skills during his career as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force. His military credentials include flying 295 combat missions during the Vietnam War and shooting down a North Vietnamese MiG-21. During his Air Force career, he held the positions of Commander and Leader of the Air Force Thunderbirds; Commander of Moody Air Force Base, Georgia; Inspector General of the Pacific Air Forces; Commander of the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing flying the F-16 and Commander of the Air Force Recruiting Service. He earned several military awards and decorations

including the Distinguished Service Medal, the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. He completed his service in the Air Force with the rank of Brigadier General. Dan has also served in Kentucky state government as Secretary of the Kentucky Justice Cabinet. He has been enshrined in the Kentucky Aviation Hall of Fame, the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame, the Western Kentucky University Hall of Distinguished Alumni and is a Paul Harris Fellow in the Bowling Green Rotary Club. Dan is married to the former Sylvia Cooper of Smyrna, Georgia. They have two daughters and four granddaughters.

Additionally, we annually support the Salvation Army, Franklin Boys & Girls Club, Center for Courageous Kids, Christian Family Radio, Feeding America, and the Potter Children’s Home of Bowling Green. In 2017, The Murphy Construction Group was named United Way of Southern Kentucky’s Top Ten campaign contributor. For the sixth year in a row, we were recognized as a Top Ten Campaign Contributor obtaining Number 4 in 2020 and maintained Number 4 status in 2021. We were also the recipient of the 2020 Live United Award.

This groundbreaking celebrates Tyson’s announcement as the largest attraction project in the history of the Transpark in Bowling Green and Warren County with the creation of 451 jobs and a capital investment of $355M. While Tyson Foods produces a wide variety of pork, chicken, and beef products for customers worldwide, this Kentucky Transpark location will see the production of Jimmy Dean® products and Wright® Brand bacon, which is known for its delicious handtrimmed and thick-cut real wood smoked bacon.

LAW AND JUSTICE DAY The Leadership Bowling Green Class of ‘21 visited the Warren County Justice Center, the Warren County Jail, Bowling Green Police Department and heard from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police for Law and Justice Day.
