PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE-BOARD RELEASES 2021 WORKFORCE SUMMIT SUMMARY: LOCAL RESPONSES & RECOMMENDATIONS TO INCREASE LABOR PARTICIPATION BOWLING GREEN KY, January 4, 2022— The South Central Workforce Development Board has released a regional workforce report focused on increasing the number of individuals working in south central Kentucky by using data and recommendations that came from surveys, focus groups, town hall meetings and feedback during their 2021 Workforce Summit Town Hall Tour. With workers quitting at unprecedented levels and preferring more job flexibility and work-life balance, new community-wide approaches are urgently needed to reach individuals who are discouraged from working or not accessing employment opportunities for various reasons. Like many parts of the U.S., south central Kentucky needs many more individuals actively participating in the labor force and sustaining our local economies' health and vitality. Leslie Witty, Director of Communications for the Board states, “The issue goes much deeper than the simple argument ‘nobody wants to work anymore,’ a phrase we hear on almost a daily basis. We have numerous factors contributing to this problem and as such, we must address it on multiple fronts.” During a period of over six months in 2021, the South Central Workforce Development Board engaged local stakeholders to identify current and emerging best practices and seek practical, local solutions for addressing the region’s labor participation problems.
In total, over 240 stakeholders across the 10-county region provided over 20 hours of feedback and recommendations towards improving south central Kentucky's labor force participation. Board staff then compiled, organized and analyzed the data to determine the main takeaways and possible solutions. The Board’s “Summit Summary: Local Responses & Recommendations to Increase Labor Participation” focuses on four key areas: Employers, Influencers, Legislators and Resources. The complete report can be found at www.southcentralworkforce.com/index.php/summit
In addition to the Summit Report and Recommendations, the Board plans to conduct forthcoming group and individual workshops to engage employers and stakeholders who were not part of the summit process but who will benefit from the recommendations and actions. To learn more about the South Central Workforce Development Board and their efforts in the south central Kentucky region, please visit www.southcentralworkforce.com. ### The South Central Workforce Development Board leads the development and implementation of a highly effective workforce development system in the ten counties of South Central Kentucky in collaboration with business, economic development, education and community organizations in the labor market area.
