A WORD FROM...

THE CHAMBER

"I am proud to reflect on 2025 as a truly standout year for our vision of becoming a thriving community and a hub for economic development. Our local businesses seized the exciting opportunities that came with 21 expansion projects that totaled $326M in capital investments and created 642 new jobs. The Kentucky Transpark, our Intermodal Transportation Authority, continued to experience impressive growth, now employing over 4,100 individuals—a 5% increase from just last year. With 87% of our Chamber partners being small businesses, we are deeply committed to supporting and strengthening our local community. In collaboration with our regional partners, we have seen significant economic impact, with over 1,594 new jobs being created in the South Central Kentucky area. As we move forward in our pursuit of community success, we are excited about the unique opportunities on the horizon for our residents, our businesses, and the greater Bowling Green community.

In recognition of this momentum, the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce was honored with the Mac Conway Award for Excellence in Economic Development for the fourth time in five years—an accolade that also contributed to our #1 Back-To-Back Ranking by Site Selection Magazine

WE CONNECT COMMUNITY

The decision to relocate with two young children was relatively easy for me and my wife once we were able to see what the Bowling Green community had to offer. The incredible school system, the amenities in the area, and the people are what made this community so attractive to our family. Bowling Green, Warren County, and those we have connected with through our church and neighborhood have been incredibly welcoming and supportive of us as we transition to Kentucky. Our community is special; may we never take that for granted.

BILL RECTOR, Warren County Fire Coordinator

LCITY OF BOWLING GREEN

ike many people living in Bowling Green, Andrew Kilbourne was initially drawn here by Western Kentucky University, but the warmth of the community and a strong sense of belonging made him want to stay.

“We’re a very welcoming community with a lot of opportunity. The city itself offers a ton of extracurricular things, like our festivals,” said Kilbourne. “Everyone here is friendly. We are chock full of international communities. You will meet people from all over the world.”

Kilbourne moved here from Glasgow in 2012 and became a Bowling Green Police Officer in 2019. As part of his policing, he is

a member of the newly formed Community Engagement Team, a group of officers committed to engaging with the public through outreach on a personal level, creating an opportunity for dialogue and building trust.

The City of Bowling Green believes everyone should feel like they belong here, and that starts with a city government that actively engages with the community beyond the walls of City Hall. Bowling Green is built on kindness and inclusivity, where people from all walks of life can make lasting connections, such as Kilbourne, who has called Bowling Green his home since 2012.

WARREN COUNTY

WATER DISTRICT

At Warren County Water District, our dedication goes beyond providing essential water and wastewater services. We are committed to uplifting the communities we serve by supporting charitable organizations and initiatives that make a real difference in Warren County.

In 2024, Warren Water employees embraced the spirit of giving through various initiatives. The Feed the Need campaign collected 1,848 canned food items to fight hunger, while the Thanksgiving Food Drive contributed 1,552 items to House on the Hill, ensuring families in need had a warm holiday meal. “Access to basic necessities is something we take seriously,” said General Manager, Jacob Cuarta. “Our team is passionate about giving back, and these efforts show the heart of our organization.”

Supporting children remained a priority. The Blessing Blankets Drive provided 200 blankets to the Barren River Area Child Advocacy Center, offering warmth and comfort to children facing difficult circumstances. Employees also participated in Read Across America, visiting local schools to promote literacy. “Investing in our youth means investing in the future of our community,” Cuarta added.

Beyond charitable contributions, Warren Water also focuses on community education and engagement. Employees regularly attend local events, speaking to residents about water quality, infrastructure improvements, and the importance of maintaining a reliable water supply. “Our role goes beyond delivering water—we want to educate and empower our community,” Cuarta noted. “By engaging with residents, we can build a stronger, more informed community.”

From addressing food insecurity to supporting children and families, Warren

Water remains deeply committed to the well-being of our community. Through volunteerism, outreach, and charitable efforts, we continue to build a stronger, more compassionate community for all.

WE WORK

BUSINESS

SEE YOU DOWNTOWN IN 2025!

acity’s Downtown is its heart. Vibrancy and art, community events, local businesses, entertainment, places to live and stay are ways to keep a Downtown’s heart beating. Downtown BGKY is pumping fast in 2025 with momentum and it’s the place you want to be. Its historic charm and powerful nostalgia mix so well with modern amenities.

Home to 300+ events annually, 40+ places to shop, eat, drink, and be entertained, and over half a million people visiting those events/venues throughout the year, Downtown BGKY is alive and well. Fountain Row, its arts & entertainment district, is home to over a dozen restaurants and bars serving adult beverages to-go daily. Launched in summer 2024, Fountain Row Fridays highlight local downtown businesses, encouraging you to make Downtown your destination every Friday. Blue Level Productions brought free live music back to Fountain Square on Friday evenings, another live music option to go along with the ever-popular Concerts in the Park series at Circus Square.

More public art is here. Thanks to a General Motors Foundation placemaking grant, the City invested in new public art, wrapping

over a dozen Downtown traffic signal cabinets with commissioned artwork thru a public art contest. New “I Heart BGKY” sculptures were installed all over Bowling Green and Warren County through a mix of public-private partners, with two placed Downtown, at the Bowling Green Ballpark and SKyPAC. Arts of Southern Kentucky unveiled a new bronze statue on its plaza.

Plans for the City’s Riverfront Park continue to take shape for its 70-acres along the Barren River across from Riverwalk Park on River Street. The National Park Service awarded grant funding for the Barren River Whitewater Project at this park, which brings another adventure feature to activate the river in a new way that appeals to locals and tourists. With 20 features for outdoor adventure and festivals, reviving Bowling Green’s river town roots, the vision brings generational change and is unlike any other park in all of Warren County.

The City continues preservation efforts in Downtown’s historic Shake Rag district, home to 150+ years of African-American history. The City purchased and saved the historic Southern Queen Hotel property from disrepair, which was once featured in The Green Book, the African American

travel guide during segregation. The City recovered hundreds of significant Shake Rag artifacts that would have been lost, which are now preserved by local professionals and made available to the public for education, research, and continued storytelling. The City awarded the property and its rebuild to Bell Vue properties, whose owners plan to revive it as the Southern Queen Hotel. Private developers are restoring the former State Street High School gym into The Mustang Club Wine Bar & Speakeasy, named in honor of the high school’s Mustang mascot. The new Shake Rag Spirits Lounge, featuring Black-owned spirits, recently opened across the street from White Squirrel Brewery, just a block from the Southern Queen, George Washington Carver Center, and Mustang Club. Service One Credit Union opened its new headquarters by the river and continues working on a Shake Rag community memory garden.

The Houchens Industries Small Business

Accelerator is open with new tenants, a partnership between the City, Housing Authority, and Houchens Industries, focusing on minority-owned businesses. The Fringe, a food truck park and hangout spot next to Stadium Park Plaza, was activated thanks to a public-private partnership with City and County agencies. Warren County Public Library, The Capitol, and 7 Mountains Media created popular tribute events to John Carpenter, horror film master. New Unseen Bowling Green and Trolley themed tours for Downtown walking and driving have arrived. Bike Walk BG’s weekly walking club strolls thru Fountain Square on Fridays at lunch and bikes thru Downtown every month. Duncan Hines Days events brought over 15,000 people to its Downtown Kickoff Party and Eats & Beats Music Fest. The BG International Festival at Circus Square grew and reshaped its footprint. The new Downtown Duck Drop event was the first Downtown program and Duncan Hines Days fundraiser for A Better BGKY Inc., our

new nonprofit to fundraise for major projects and events. Light Up BGKY culminated a week of community holiday lightings at Downtown BGKY Lights Up.

Many City/County annual communitydriven events are hosted in Downtown spaces by our agency teams, all with 20+ more partners making our city special, like City and County Parks & Recreation, City and County Stormwater, The Capitol, SoKY Marketplace, The Fringe, BG Hot Rods, SKyPAC/Arts of Southern Kentucky, Warren County Public Library, Historic RailPark & Train Museum, Bike Walk BG, BG Chamber, and more. The City installed new public parking signage to make navigating easier. Mark your calendar: Duncan Hines Days, June 2-8; Downtown BGKY Harvest Fest, October 18; Downtown Duck Drop, November 24. SMALL BUSINESS Spotlight

PORTALES BUILDING & REMODELING: Osmany & Omar Portales

Crafting a Future in Bowling Green

For brothers Osmany and Omar Portales, representing Portales Building & Remodeling LLC, every project is more than just construction it’s about building a future. Originally from Cuba, Osmany moved to Bowling Green in 2016 as a political asylee, seeking new opportunities for his family. With a background in civil engineering and construction management, he combined his expertise with a deep passion for craftsmanship, launching Portales Building & Remodeling in 2017. Soon after, his brother Omar joined him, bringing his own skills and dedication to the business, solidifying their shared vision.

FINDING

Bowling Green was the perfect place to establish their business. A growing city with strong opportunities, high demand for quality remodeling, and a welcoming community made it an ideal foundation for both their work and their families. “We love improving homes, commercial buildings, and local businesses—it’s our way of giving back to the community that gave us a fresh start,” Osmany says.

With a commitment to quality and a drive to make every space better, Portales Building & Remodeling isn’t just renovating structures—it’s helping shape the future of Bowling Green, one project at a time.

HOME IN HOSPITALITY: Andy Vanmali’s Journey to Bowling Green

For Andy Vanmali, hospitality isn’t just a business—it’s in his DNA. Born in Panama, raised in India, and later moving to Tennessee, his journey has been one of change, resilience, and a deep-rooted passion for making people feel welcome. His wife, originally from England, grew up in California before they built a life together in Nashville. But it was Bowling Green that captured their hearts.

Drawn by the city’s small-town charm and thriving community, Andy saw more than just an opportunity—he saw a place to belong. With his sons, Nikhil and Ishaan, and a dedicated team, he founded Three Springs Hospitality Management Company, creating not just hotels, but spaces where warmth and connection define the guest experience.

“The people here make all the difference,” Andy says. “Bowling Green isn’t just where we do business—it’s home.” As the city grows, so does Andy’s vision, ensuring every guest who walks through the door feels like they, too, belong in Bowling Green.

SHE·OLOGY:

Kristina Denham’s Mission to Transform Women’s Healthcare in Bowling Green

For Kristina Denham, SHE·OLOGY is more than a business—it’s a deeply personal mission. Originally from Bee Spring, Kentucky, Kristina moved to Bowling Green in 2010 with her two daughters after the tragic loss of her husband. That life-changing event reinforced her understanding of the importance of community, resilience, and access to quality healthcare—especially for women.

As both a mother and a healthcare professional, Kristina saw firsthand the gaps in women’s healthcare. From gender biases in medical research to limited access to personalized care, so many women struggled to get the attention and support they needed. That’s why she founded SHE·OLOGY —a direct primary care practice designed exclusively for women, where patients are truly seen, heard, and cared for as whole individuals, not just medical cases.

At SHE·OLOGY, women receive

personalized healthcare that goes beyond routine checkups. The practice offers comprehensive services, including weight loss support and hormone assessments, ensuring that women have access to the care they need at every stage of life.

Choosing Bowling Green as the home for SHE·OLOGY was an easy decision.

It’s where Kristina had built a life, found support, and felt a calling to give back. “I wanted to create something that would have a lasting impact on the women around me,” she says. With SHE·OLOGY, she is doing exactly that—ensuring that women in Bowling Green have access to the healthcare they deserve, in a place that feels like home.

A SHARP RETURN HOME: Seth Sheldon’s Journey with Look Sharp Dry Cleaners

For Seth Sheldon, Bowling Green isn’t just home—it’s family, tradition, and opportunity. Born and raised here, his path took him far beyond Kentucky, leading to a thriving legal career in the Virgin Islands. Working as a clerk for Honorable Judge Brady and later with USVI Law, LLC, Seth was on a strong trajectory. But something kept pulling him back.

When his uncle, Trae Hill, was ready to retire from Look Sharp, Seth saw more than just a business transaction—he saw a chance to keep a family legacy alive. Returning home to Bowling Green, he took over the business, bringing the same values that shaped his upbringing: customer service, community, and a servant’s heart.

"Bowling Green is growing, but it still feels like home," Seth says. "It’s a welcoming community, close to Nashville, and rich with Kentucky traditions—horses, basketball, bourbon. After years away, I appreciate the seasons, the people, and the comforts of being stateside again."

With Look Sharp, Seth isn’t just running a business—he’s continuing a family tradition and investing in the community that shaped him. And for him, there’s no better place to do that than Bowling Green.

BG HOT RODS

The Bowling Green Hot Rods are a Minor League Baseball team that competes in the High-A South Atlantic League as the High-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, with whom they have been affiliated since the team’s founding in 2009. 2025 marks the 16th season of the Hot Rods in Bowling Green. The Hot Rods will play a 132-game schedule and host 66 contests at Bowling Green Ballpark over 12 home stands in 2025.

In 2024, the Bowling Green Hot Rods celebrated success both on and off the field. The Hot Rods punctuated their 2024 season with the 2024 South Atlantic League trophy, their fourth championship in the past six years. The 2024 South Atlantic League title was the second in the Hot Rods' history, joining 2022. In 2021, the Hot Rods won the High-A East championship; in 2018, they won their first Midwest League championship. Since their inception, over 110 players from the Hot Rods have made their Major League debuts. Off the field, the Hot Rods have donated $2M back to the South Central Kentucky community over the past several seasons. Aside from the 66 Hot Rods home games, the ballpark hosted close to 200 additional events for organizations around the Bowling Green area.

In 2019, the Hot Rods celebrated their first year under the team's current ownership, Jack Blackstock, who helped spearhead the $2.5M renovation of Bowling Green Ballpark. The ballpark is a 4,350-seat multifunctional complex in the heart of downtown Bowling Green. More renovations concluded in 2022, including a new clubhouse for the team, and the Hot Rods will unveil new fan features within the next year. Beyond stadium seating, the ballpark features several picnic, patio, and play areas for fans to enjoy. The Hiller Kids Zone includes an Adventureland Playground, presented by Van Meter Insurance, and a classic carousel, splash pads, and more. Fans can celebrate birthdays and other special occasions on the birthday deck while enjoying the views from right field. The Coca-Cola Deck is a private, covered, open-air picnic location on the first-base side's suite level. The Happy Hiller Corner is an open patio with three covered gazebos and brand-new food and drink rails for an elevated experience. The covered gazebos are furnished with outdoor lounge furniture on the left wall overlooking the Hot Rods' bullpen. The Budweiser Zone is a large picnic area in the ballpark with a threetiered landing and is the prime location to capture favorite players' home runs. The

Yuengling Tap Room features a trendy lounge atmosphere on the concourse level of the ballpark. The Performance FoodService Stadium Club and Evan Williams bar is an outstanding enclosed group area with an airconditioned lounge and reserved seating on the balcony located on the suite level behind home plate. This club is also used for annual meetings and event rentals for corporate meetings, training, weddings, and formal dinners.

The Hot Rods baseball experience is more than just a sporting event; it is a familyfriendly, memory-making experience. From theme nights like Sitcom Night to Unicorn Night, and playing as the Bootleggers and Bowling Green Cavemen, we plan entertainment for everybody. Games come packed with fun promotional giveaways and celebrity appearances, such as Christopher McDonald and Joey Chestnut, that keep fans coming back for more.

In addition to hosting the Hot Rods baseball team, Bowling Green Ballpark continues to host a multitude of professional, corporate, charity, and individual events, including large-scale concerts, charity events, Bourbon and Brewfest, Tequila and Tacos, high school and college baseball tournaments, ultramarathons, professional wrestling, and much more.

WKU ATHLETICS

Whether you are new to Bowling Green and South Central Kentucky, or have lived here your whole life, the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers can be your Hometown Team. The home of America’s favorite mascot, Big Red, WKU sponsors 16 varsity sports.

The WKU Athletics motto is “Champions Climb Here,” and that is evidenced by the 42 team Conference USA championships and 68 individual CUSA titles the University has claimed since joining the league in the summer of 2014. WKU has won multiple championships every year but two and has taken home at least five titles four times.

WKU student-athletes are folded into the fabric of the Bowling Green and Warren County communities. Hilltopper and Lady Topper studentathletes annually complete over 3,000 community service hours and are on pace to do over 5,000 community

service hours during the 2024-25 school year. WKU student-athletes compiled a 3.24 GPA in Fall 2024, the highest cumulative GPA ever recorded by the Hilltoppers.

In 2024, WKU Athletics contributed over $6.5 million to the local economy in a review focused just on hotel night stays. With nearly one-quarter of a million people coming to Hilltopper Athletic events annually, that number is surely higher when you add in the impact felt by local restaurants, bars and other businesses on football game weekends and other sports’ gamedays.

Even if you weren’t born and raised a Hilltopper, you are always welcome on The Hill. To learn more or find a game that fits your schedule, visit WKUSports. com or call our ticket office at 1-800-5BIG RED.

THE CAPITOL: WHERE COMMUNITY TAKES CENTER STAGE

In Bowling Green, the Capitol Theatre isn't just a building; it's a community hub, a place where stories are shared and memories are made. As Oscar Wilde said, theatre connects us, and the Capitol embodies this, offering a stage for everyone. From schoolchildren to professionals, all belong on its historic boards. Since 2021, the Warren County Public Library's stewardship has broadened the Capitol's appeal, echoing its multi-purpose past, from early 20th-century hospital campaign headquarters to today's blend of library resources and live performances.

The library has breathed new life into the Capitol, offering free events including author visits and movies, alongside ticketed shows featuring local and touring talent. Capitol Books, the Friends of the Library’s used bookstore, further strengthens the community connection. Magnolia Gramling, Manager of the Capitol, emphasizes the library's commitment to preserving this vital space. "WCPL is so thrilled to be on Fountain Square. The Capitol has helped us expand our mission, in ways that were previously unimaginable."

The Capitol's magic lies in its ability to connect generations. Whether you're taking your child to their first movie, reminiscing about your own stage debut, or browsing the shelves at Capitol Books, you're becoming part of the Capitol's ongoing story. This historic theatre isn't just a venue; it's a shared experience, a place where everyone belongs.

WE HAVE A PLAN DEVELOPMENT

Bowling Green’s Riverfront Park master plan is gaining momentum with the development of a whitewater park along the Barren River, spanning roughly 4,000 feet from BGMU’s water treatment plant past College Street. This addition is set to enhance recreation opportunities while also improving river safety and accessibility.

The new design will reshape water flow, replacing the existing dam with a safer, more accessible structure. By allowing water to flow more smoothly, the project will create calmer areas at the river’s edge, providing safer and more inviting access for visitors.

This initiative aligns with the city’s long-term vision of transforming Riverfront Park’s 70 acres into a premier outdoor destination. Developed with community feedback and in collaboration with a top architectural firm, the project aims to make the park a regional attraction, fostering economic growth and strengthening community pride in

Did you know?

Bowling Green is Kentucky’s third largest city, and the region is consistently at the top of the list of fastest growing areas of the Commonwealth. Southern Living ranked Bowling Green one of the Top 10 “South’s Best Cities on the Rise” in 2024.

BG 2050

The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce recently commissioned research that projects Warren County is likely to grow by more than the current City of Bowling Green population in less than 25 years.

In response to that challenge, in Summer 2023, Warren County JudgeExecutive Doug Gorman had Innovation Engine Co-Founder Sam Ford and University of Southern California Associate Research Professor Dr. Sangita Shresthova host a one-day workshop with a mix of community leaders and local experts, all focused on imagining what the Bowling Green area will look like on the other side of that growth.

In response to that workshop, the county worked with Ford and Shresthova to design BG 2050, launched in mid-2024.

BG 2050 is an ongoing initiative. More than 100 area residents—from native Bowling Greenians to those who recently came to town—who are passionate about what the future of the region might be are volunteering their time to collaborate on a vision for what that future Bowling Green might be. These volunteers are working across eight crucial “pillar areas” for that future Bowling Green: economic development, housing, infrastructure, public health, quality of life, storytelling, talent development, and tourism.

In February/March 2025, Innovation Engine engaged in a widespread campaign to solicit public feedback to inform this process—called “What Could BG Be?—in partnership with the civic technology platform Polis and Google’s Jigsaw team.

BG 2050 members are now providing insight to the Warren County government to inform a 25-year vision for 2050.
