Perhaps you’re the type of adventurer who enjoys the water, either floating on it or casting a line. Barren River is home to many species of fish and meanders through sun-dappled land along tree-lined banks covered in lush vegetation. If you prefer a guided water experience, Lost River Cave offers boat excursions on the underground river flowing into the cave.
For a more urban adventure, travel into downtown where you can indulge in decadent food and beverages in what is now the heart of the downtown entertainment district. Along with business offices, pubs, and eateries, you can also find unique treasures including one-of-a-kind art for your home, fine diamonds and other jewels, boutique clothing, and collectibles. No visit to downtown is complete without a stroll through Fountain Square Park. Designed in 1870, the park is beautifully landscaped around the historic fountain and statues creating the perfect spot for an afternoon picnic, evening walk, or a beautiful place to say “I do.”
Just beyond the square, Circus Square Park is a great place for a picnic. During the warm summer months, the city turns on the sprayground in the park where the young and young at heart can run through the water. Circus Square is also home to many summer concerts featuring talented local musicians. Both Circus Square and Fountain Square parks play host to multiple events which this summer will include the Duncan Hines Days in June, Harvest Festival in the fall, and Downtown Lights Up in the winter.
