COMMUNITY

Adventure AWAITS
BY DEBORAH HIGHLAND WESTParks, museums, historic sites, sporting events, and seasonal activities throughout the year draw thousands of visitors to Bowling Green. A strong economic base, low cost of living, and excellent schools keep existing residents here and lure new people to the fastestgrowing city in Kentucky.
WHATEVER YOUR REASON FOR BEING IN BOWLING GREEN, LET THE ADVENTURE BEGIN HERE.
Bowling Green is home to 22 parks, numerous restaurants, and pubs, two water parks, racetracks, a world-class museum dedicated to America’s sports car, a performing arts center, local theater groups, an amusement park, a Minor League Baseball team, caves, trails, and waterways.

If you like exploring the outdoors, the city’s parks and greenways provide recreation for all ages and abilities. Perhaps you’re the type of adventurer who enjoys the water, either floating on it or casting a line. Barren River is home to many species of fish and meanders through sun-dappled land along tree-lined banks covered in lush vegetation. If you prefer a guided water experience, Lost River Cave offers boat excursions on the underground river flowing into the cave.
For a more urban adventure, travel into downtown where you can indulge in decadent food and beverages in what is now the heart of the downtown entertainment district. Along with business offices, pubs, and eateries, you can also find unique treasures including one-of-a-kind art for your home, fine diamonds and other jewels, boutique clothing, and collectibles. No visit to downtown is complete without
a stroll through Fountain Square Park. Designed in 1870, the park is beautifully landscaped around the historic fountain and statues creating the perfect spot for an afternoon picnic, evening walk, or a beautiful place to say “I do.”
Just beyond the square, Circus Square Park is a great place for a picnic. During the warm summer months, the city turns on the sprayground in the park where the young and young at heart can run through the water. Circus Square is also home to many summer concerts featuring talented local musicians. Both Circus Square and Fountain Square parks play host to multiple events which this summer will include the Duncan Hines Days in June, Harvest Festival in the fall, and Downtown Lights Up in the winter.
In addition to a beautiful downtown, Bowling Green provides multiple opportunities for work and a welleducated and prepared workforce for the hundreds of employers here.
Bowling Green is community-led, service-driven, and powered by growth.

TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT RECRUITS, RETAINS AND PREPARES INDUSTRIES AND PARTNERS FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH IN THE VALLEY.
BY DANNY ISAACSTVA Economic Development is part of Tennessee Valley Authority’s overall mission of service. We carry out that mission through our work in: Energy, Environment, and Economic Development in our seven-state service area. Our aim in Economic Development is to recruit new companies and investment to the region, retain existing business and industries, and serve with our partners to help them prepare for economic growth.
Economic Development works to recruit companies to the Valley, focusing on specific industry sectors based on location advantages of the Valley, natural assets, and market demand.
Supporting business recruitment and retention, Regional Development Specialists work in seven territories across the Valley, including two in Kentucky, partnering with local power companies, regional, state, and local economic development partners to help foster growth in the area.
Product Development initiatives are designed to identify or enhance industrial properties to better compete in the marketplace, preparing industrial sites and communities for economic growth before a prospective client is introduced.
TVA Economic Development works to serve the Valley by providing assistance through Training and Development offerings. This support helps to prepare communities for economic growth by providing customized assistance, facilitation services, and strategic planning.

TVA Economic Development also offers site selection services, incentives, marketing, and technical assistance to help companies locate, stay and expand in the Valley.
In fiscal year 2022, TVA worked with local power companies and economic development partners to help to create or retain more than 4,400 jobs and $715 million in capital investment in its Kentucky service area, including companies’ announcements like Envision AESC, Tyson Foods, and O-I Glass in Bowling Green.

We began with 325 members in Warren, Edmonson, and Simpson Counties. Today, we serve over 73, 000 members across Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Grayson, Logan, Ohio, Simpson, and Warren Counties, making us the 10th largest local power company (LPC) in the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) region. We are also the largest TVA provider in Kentucky.
Warren RECC strives to be the trusted energy advisor for all our commercial and industrial members. We work in partnership with TVA to offer financial and rate incentives to qualified industrial and commercial customers to assist with infrastructure costs and lower overall operating costs. We have an engineering team dedicated to working directly with companies and economic development officials to help make sure our communities have healthy, thriving economies. This team provides energy audits, billing review, and technical services, including power quality analysis and predictive maintenance to our commercial members, so company officials know they’re receiving the best service and making the most efficient use of their electricity dollar.
In Warren County, Warren RECC delivers electricity to both the South-Central Kentucky Industrial Park and the Kentucky Transpark, providing more than 50 industries with over 140 MVA of total capacity with some of the lowest industrial rates in the country. We have helped industries navigate the pandemic and post-pandemic economic challenges with the “Pandemic Relief Credit” rate incentive to help industries recover and restart their operations.
In addition to working with economic development officials and local industries, we strive to improve our communities in other ways. Since 2019, Warren RECC has partnered with like-minded companies to bring high-speed internet to as many of our members as possible. We are kickstarting the effort to bridge the digital divide by focusing on providing service in the rural areas. To date, we are offering service to over 21,000 of our members, that have no high-speed internet option, in parts of Warren, Simpson, Butler, Edmonson, and Grayson Counties. We look forward to continuing to grow our projects and expanding into additional areas.

graves gilbert clinic
YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND TOMORROW
In 1937, G.Y. Graves and J.T. Gilbert forged an unlikely partnership and embarked on a journey the outcome of which no one could have predicted. By 1941, Bowling Green’s first multispecialty group was formed, and, by 1969, the clinic housed 15 of the city’s 37 total physicians.
Today, Graves Gilbert Clinic houses more than 200 providers, representing 30 medical specialties, who continue to lead the way in medical innovation and technology, and serve South Central Kentucky with the same level of care and dedication that their founding fathers promised over 85 years ago when Dr. Graves and Dr. Gilbert shook hands and made a commitment to the future: A commitment to a Lifetime of Care.
With over 1,000 employees, Graves Gilbert Clinic has grown to become one of the area’s largest locallyowned businesses. GGC’s 212 providers, practicing in 36 specialties, make it the largest physician-owned group in the commonwealth. “In 2022 more than 1 million people came through our doors,” said Chris Thorn, CEO of Graves Gilbert Clinic. “We are honored by the significant level of trust placed in our organization. We work hard every day to provide the high-quality care our patients expect and deserve.”

The Clinic has 28 different offices located throughout southern Kentucky, including Glasgow, Franklin, Smiths Grove, Russellville, Morgantown, Lewisburg, Munfordville, Cave City, and multiple locations in Bowling Green. In 2020, The Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) identified Graves Gilbert Clinic as the only group out of 2,600 groups in the country to achieve all of the MGMA patient quality and financial measures. During a pandemic in 2021, Graves Gilbert Clinic also earned MGMA’s Superior Performer status and was recognized by the Hospital Financial Management Associated (HFMA) as one of the top 5 groups in the country.
BY DEBBIE DIAMONDGGC now has a total of seven walk in care locations, including the Family Care Center on Nashville Road, which houses specialists in the areas of allergy, pediatrics, family medicine, rheumatology, and more. The Clinic continues to be very active in working with other great healthcare providers and industries in Warren County and South Central Kentucky to ensure Graves Gilbert offers the highest level of service.
Adding to its increased convenience is the Clinic’s fully equipped laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and radiology, as well as 3D mammography, low-dose CT scanning, largebore MRIs, and extended hours – seven days a week, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Graves Gilbert Clinic is proud to offer lab and radiology services that are identified by most insurance carriers as the low-cost provider in our area.
Due to regulatory changes and national legislative initiatives, many providers seek larger organizations to help with and streamline administrative tasks. Having been a part of the South Central Kentucky community since 1937, Graves Gilbert Clinic is well-positioned to provide such services.
For over 85 years, families have entrusted their care to Graves Gilbert Clinic’s distinguished physicians and staff. Graves Gilbert continues to regularly add new providers in primary care and multi-specialty areas to meet the growing needs of our patients.

TriStar Greenview
CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF SERVING SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY
BY MICHAEL FERGUSONFifty years ago, the completion of Greenview Hospital ushered in a new era of healthcare in south central Kentucky. The first modern healthcare facility constructed in Bowling Green in more than 40 years, Greenview represented the vision of HCA Healthcare’s leadership to establish a community-based hospital that brought leadingedge medical technology and advanced treatment approaches closer to home for residents of Bowling Green and its surrounding communities. “Our promise to bring top-quality healthcare to our region remains as strong as ever,” said Mike Sherrod, CEO of TriStar Greenview Regional Hospital. “As we celebrate our 50th anniversary in Bowling Green, our commitment to our founders’ mission remains unwavering: ‘Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.”
With that mission at heart, TriStar Greenview has continually demonstrated its patient-centered focus. Whether by introducing advanced heart-failure treatment options or creating an enhanced surgical recovery program to significantly reduce postoperative pain, TriStar Greenview has incorporated innovative, evidence-based technology and treatment into its culture.
During the past five years, the hospital has made significant investments to expand and enhance its services.
• TriStar Greenview was among the first hospitals in the United States to operationalize leading-edge augmented-reality cardiac catheterization lab imaging technology.

• The hospital was the first in Bowling Green to provide total joint replacement surgery on an outpatient basis, which allows qualifying patients to recover in the comfort of their own homes instead of a hospital.
• The opening of the advanced endoscopy center has transformed the hospital’s GI service line, expanding its capacity and enhancing the patient experience.
• TriStar Greenview was the first hospital in Kentucky to use the Velys orthopedic surgical robot, affording our surgeons higher degrees of precision when placing implants and tailoring the procedure to the patient’s anatomy.
• TriStar Greenview was the first hospital in Kentucky to use advanced augmented-reality image guidance technology in spine surgery - a system that enhances surgical precision by affording surgeons a kind of X-ray vision.
• Completion of the Greenview Surgery Center offers patients an alternative to a hospital-based surgical setting.
“Reflecting on the innovation of the past 50 years here at TriStar Greenview – and especially the recent progress we’ve made – I can’t help but look forward with great excitement,” Sherrod said. “We are grateful for the support we’ve received from south central Kentuckians for the past five decades, and we remain committed to supporting the communities we serve by elevating the level of healthcare available in our area and by continuing to lead as a community partner.”

BUSINESS

SMALL BUSINESS Spotlight
Deemer Floral Co.
ELLEN & MIKE BUCHANONEllen is originally from Bownling Green, and Mike is from Scottsville, KY but moved to Bownling Green at seven and has lived here ever since. Ellen’s grandparents came to BG in 1922 and purchased what was then the Burdell Flower Shop and changed the name to Deemer’s florist.
Ellen’s grandmother Bess Deemer had worked in a family flower shop that her grandfather, Joy’s Florist, started. The Deemers saw BG as a growing community and decided it would be an excellent place to move to and raise a family. Ellen’s parents eventually took over the business, and from there, Mike and Ellen took over when they married in 1973.
Continuing the family business was an obvious choice for Ellen, and a growing city like BG, which is a great place to live and raise a family, allowing Deemer Floral Co. to thrive.

Local Taco
Owned and operated by Becky and her husband, Jack, this local eatery has become a staple in the community since its opening in 2017. Before opening Local Taco, Becky and her husband spent 25 years working in corporate restaurants, most notably as an Area Director with Chili’s. Despite their success, they always dreamed of owning their own restaurant. When the opportunity presented itself to take over Local Taco, they jumped at the chance. What makes Local Taco so unique is its delicious food and commitment to the community. Local Taco is more than just a restaurant; it’s a symbol of the growth and prosperity of Bowling Green.

One Roof Event Space
Born and raised in Bowling Green, Chase Carpenter, owns One Roof Event Space, a rental service space geared towards a variety of events. His parents and grandfather were also entrepreneurs in this community, and he feels the need to continue the legacy for himself and future generations. Though Chase was not involved in hosting events during his time at WKU, he said that his experience there, and at other universities, would come back full circle later in life. With his knowledge, he pursued a venue space with the help of his partners. They knew this space would be bigger than just for-profit businesses and wanted to pour back into this thriving community that has been pivotal in all their lives.

Since then, they have expanded the downtown location twice, added a drive-thru location on 31-W Bypass, and opened a third location at Helm Commons at WKU. Spencer’s Coffee employs 60 individuals across all three locations and has become a beloved staple in the Bowling Green community. Chamber + WKU Innovation campus Partnership

FORGING THE PATH FOR EMERGING TECH & STORYTELLING

As the strength and diversity of the economy in our region grows, so do the strategic alliances fueling and supporting that economic development.
Especially pivotal to building our region’s focus on growing the emerging technology and storytelling ecosystem north of Nashville is the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce’s deep partnership with the Western Kentucky University Innovation Campus and the economic development entity based at the Innovation Campus’ HQ at 2413 Nashville Road in Bowling Green in what was once a 285,000-squarefoot shopping mall: the Central Region Ecosystem for Arts, Technology, and Entrepreneurship, or CREATE.
The WKU Innovation Campus is an applied research and intellectual hub that spurs innovative collaboration, promotes problem-solving, and nurtures talent to elevate the economy, the culture, and the region. Through real-world applications and entrepreneurial support, the Innovation Campus engages and connects a wide range of stakeholders to tackle challenges and foster a talent-first strategy to meet the needs of the region’s growing industries, including corporations, industry leaders, startup
researchers, students, and subject matter experts. “Economic development is driven by proactive, organized action at the local level,” said Buddy Steen, CEO of the WKU Innovation Campus. “Those efforts can and should leverage regional, state, and federal stakeholder resources, but it must be led locally. And our Chamber consistently takes the lead at organizing those efforts, with a deeply collaborative spirit.”
In addition to events aimed at the startup community, the Chamber and the Innovation Campus have partnered on concentrated efforts to support and attract emerging technology and storytelling companies here–building a growing ecosystem for talent in these growing economic sectors north of Nashville.
For instance, the two entities have come together to launch a new Immersive Experience Innovation Lab, housed at the WKU Innovation Campus and focused on how new technologies and storytelling methods merge to create immersive environments that shape experiences in everything from the media, gaming, and tourism industries to employee recruitment/ training, education, and product prototyping.
“The WKU Innovation Campus is continuing to grow, evolve, and transform with each new company that chooses to call this region home,” said Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Ron Bunch. “Their labs, resources, and programs are a key reason why we’re seeing such interest north of Nashville. And we’re excited to be integrating our offerings with theirs to attract more emerging tech and storytelling professionals here.”
In addition to investing in programs and infrastructure that support these growing economic sectors, the Chamber and the Innovation Campus have put a particularly strong focus on supporting, attracting, and retaining talent.
“In 2023, it’s clear that talent is at the heart of any thriving economy,” Steen said. “Our investments must focus as much on enhancing the cultural standard of living in our community as it does on the economic standard of living. To put it bluntly: as long as we grow our reputation as a place talented people want to live, that talent will drive continued economic development.”
Together with local government officials, the Chamber and the Innovation Campus are building programs that envision the Bowling Green of the future and ensure that value proposition for the talent we want to attract and retain.
For instance, the Innovation Campus has opened a new 30,000-square-foot Collaborative SmartSpace at its headquarters, which is a 24/7 shared working space with near-perfect internet and a membership model for professionals who want a place not just to come to work but to ultimately meet, collaborate with, learn from, and share networks with other talented professionals in the region.
The focus on talent development and support has also driven a new project: the WKU CO/CREATE Talent Database–a confidential, optimized database of talent that catalogs professionals who agree to return, stay, or move to the region as we connect them to meaningful new opportunities to do so.

Only a small team has access to the names in the CO/ CREATE database, and all have signed NDAs. But that team shares data about the aggregate talent in the database to the Chamber and other partners to drive economic development efforts. The team helps match available talent with startup ventures and job opportunities in the region, as well as the resources that helps them to bring their career here. Upon their consent to a particular opportunity, their resume and information will be shared. More information on that program is available at https://cocreate-ic.com/. The shared passion and ethos for holistic economic and cultural development demonstrated by the above programs will continue to define the partnership between the Chamber and the WKU Innovation Campus.
“Bowling Green and Warren County have consistently been the fastest growing community in Kentucky for decades,” Bunch said. “And it will continue to be, for years to come. What’s especially powerful about the Innovation Campus is that it is as committed to the community, the culture, and the needs of the talent that will power the growth of this region North of Nashville as it is the emerging technology and infrastructure needed to support it.”

EDUCATION

Building a Solid Foundation

FOR THE FUTURE SUCCESS OF OUR COMMUNITY

ABOUT
South Central Kentucky Learning About Unique and New Careers Here—SCK LAUNCH—is an overarching talent development strategy that begins at the earliest opportunity in kindergarten and carries to graduation. SCK LAUNCH is building on the momentum achieved through implementation of the principles of Franklin-Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” in elementary and middle schools, and continuing the efforts in our local high schools through immersing students in knowledge about local careers. Our elementary and secondary school systems rank among the best in Kentucky and the U.S. because of our region’s commitment to strong community values, supportive business leaders, and parent involvement. As the fastest-growing city in Kentucky, a qualified pipeline of talent is the key to sustaining the success of Bowling Green and Warren County.
WHO SCK LAUNCH is backed by the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation in partnership with Bowling Green Independent School District, Warren County Public Schools, and local business partners. Through the backbone support of the Chamber, SCK LAUNCH drives toward a common agenda, shared measurement, continuous communication and mutually reinforcing activities. The community’s Collective Impact efforts inspire the powerful education and business partnership necessary to create the talent pipeline for high-demand sectors to grow in our economy.
WHAT The intent of the SCK LAUNCH initiative is to ensure our children graduate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to succeed in whatever path they choose upon graduation. Regardless of their path, we want them to be prepared to succeed in their chosen career pathway and understand that we are all lifelong learners. SCK LAUNCH envisions all students graduating demonstrating the characteristics of The Ideal Graduate – GlobalMinded, Emotional Intelligence, and Lifelong Learner.

HOW SCK LAUNCH prepares students by providing opportunities to explore their interests, experience relevant work, and connect with the real-world. The SCK LAUNCH Community Plan provides the implementation road map to engage business and school partners to strategically coordinate and align efforts. The work of SCK LAUNCH is organized and conducted by specialized tactic teams made up of community members and educators who bring a diversity of expertise and a passion for education.

Gallup’s research indicates that a student who has a meaningful work-related experience before graduation is more likely to persist in the real-world. The goal of SCK LAUNCH is that 100% of students will graduate with career-related experience which will be directly applied to the local workforce opportunities, thus creating a pipeline for qualified and available applicants.

HOW CAN YOU HELP
In order to realize the full potential for the SCK LAUNCH initiative we are seeking philanthropic support from the community.
This initiative will include:
• Training to enhance and empower leadership and to create relevant connections for students
• The establishment of career-focused models within the high schools to provide access to relevant materials and equipment which mirror the modern workplace
• Events and activities which connect students directly to the high-demand sector businesses to launch their future careers

• Marketing efforts which will create awareness of these opportunities for students, their families and the community
For information on investing in SCK LAUNCH, please contact Meredith Rozanski at 270-901-4750 or Meredith@bgchamber.com. Learn more at www.scklaunch.com

Bowling green independent schools
BY LESLIE MCCOYBowling Green Independent Schools are preparing students to be excellent citizens, employees, and future leaders, both locally and globally. BGISD has existed since the 1880s and has long been known for excellence in academic programs and success in athletics. The district serves approximately 4,450 students in preschool through 12th grade in eight schools: T. C. Cherry Elementary, Dishman McGinnis Elementary, Parker-Bennett-Curry Elementary, Potter Gray Elementary, and W. R. McNeill Elementary, Bowling Green Junior High, Bowling Green High School, and the Bowling Green Learning Center.
Approximately 66% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch, 53.8% are minority students, and 20% of students are multilingual, with over 55 languages spoken in our schools; Spanish and Swahili as the two most common after English.
All schools have been built or undergone major renovations in the last 20 years. The largest school, Bowling Green High School, has been completely rebuilt in phases over the last few years and will be fully operational in August 2023. The overall project
included adding natural light to all classrooms, increasing energy efficiency, improving traffic flow around the school campus, and most importantly, providing the best possible learning environment for students and for future generations.
Features of the school include:
• The Joseph Tinius LEAD Academy for 9th-g rade students
• The Medical Arts Academy
• Culinary Arts Lab
• Band, Orchestra, & Choir Rehearsal Spaces
• Performing Arts Center
• 11-Lane Natatorium
• Stadium with turf field & track
The Bowling Green Independent School District is located in the downtown area and is approximately seven square miles. Although the City of Bowling Green is larger than the school district boundaries, BGISD does accept non-resident students, and families who do not reside within the district, as tuition students. Annual tuition for 2023-24 will be $500.
More information about the application process can be found on the district website.
Bowling Green Independent Schools strive each day to exemplify the motto, “Excellence Is Worth The Effort.” For more infor mation about the school district, visit www.bgreen. kyschools.us, follow on social media, or call 270-746-2200.

at WCPS
BY DR. TRACEY YOUNG AND LAUREN THURMONDThe Warren County Public Schools (WCPS) district, made up of 18,000+ students representing 120 languages, is committed to educating future innovators and leaders as we prepare students for life adventures beyond high school.

We understand this journey towards success begins by educating children in their earliest years; this is why WCPS has a rich history of focusing on early childhood education. When we prepare children to start kindergarten with the skill sets to succeed, they are more likely to achieve at high levels throughout their education and beyond. This academic year, WCPS expanded its preschool program from 15 classrooms to 43 classrooms, providing over 825 students (ages 3-4) with full-day preschool, four days per week. WCPS also has an award-winning outreach program through the Little Learners Mobile Preschool Classroom bus. This bus penetrates high-need areas of Warren County, providing early learning instruction for children (ages Birth-5), screening services, and parent education at no charge to the families served. On the wheels of this bus, there is a fully functional preschool classroom where we focus on literacy, math and social skills to help prepare children for a successful transition to preschool or kindergarten.
All successful adventures begin with leadership! In all 24 schools across the district, WCPS incorporates tenets from FranklinCovey’s Leader in Me program. This evidence-based model builds leadership and life skills in students, laying the foundation for long-term academic achievement and lifelong success. Not only did WCPS have the first two Leader in Me Lighthouse Schools in the state of Kentucky, the highest standard for implementing the Leader in Me program with fidelity, WCPS has since grown to ten schools receiving the highly regarded Lighthouse designation.
When students enter our middle and high schools, our remarkable team focuses on students’ college and career readiness, building upon the leadership skills our students developed while in elementary school.

WCPS is proud to have a college and career transition coach in every high school forming meaningful partnerships with business and industry leaders, as well as postsecondary education institutions. Through these partnerships, this year alone, our students will participate in over 6,000 college and career experiences including career shadowing events, campus tours, hiring events, career fairs, soft skills and employability skills training, and more.
No matter where our students are in their journey toward success, WCPS and our community partners will support them as they begin their adventures beyond high school!

FOR HIGHER EDUCATION, LET YOUR ADVENTURE BEGIN AT SKYCTC!
BY REBECCA LEEGraduating high school, starting a new job, or changing careers can be an exciting and welcome adventure. For many, these new adventures will include the need for additional training and education beyond a high school diploma. Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College makes the path to higher education easy by offering low tuition, numerous scholarships, caring faculty and staff, and flexible classes. From individuals who want to upskill in their current job, to high school students following their dreams, SKYCTC offers unmatched quality, affordability, and flexibility.
Many Paths to a Great Career
SKYCTC offers certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees in programs that align with the careers available in our region. With SKYCTC, students can tailor their education to their needs. Some students may get a short-term certificate and start their careers immediately. Others may earn an associate degree and join the workforce in a high-demand field, such as nursing. Of course, students who want to earn a bachelor’s degree can start at SKYCTC, too. After graduating with an associate degree, students can easily transfer their credits to any Kentucky public university and most private colleges and universities in the state to continue their education.
Flexible College Classes
With SKY Flex, students complete most of their classwork in online interactive modules. Then, the student goes to campus one day a week (per class) for a hands-on lab with the instructor. SKY Flex is perfect for students who plan to work while they attend college.
Unmatched Affordability
SKYCTC has the lowest college tuition in the state and is committed to helping students graduate without student loan debt. As a result, almost two-thirds of SKYCTC graduates complete their associate degrees without loans.
scholarship options
The DC to Finish Scholarship is the top tier of the SKYCTC merit scholarships offered to first-time college students. It provides $5,000 per academic year to students who complete nine or more SKYCTC dual credit hours with a SKYCTC GPA of 3.0 or better. Since annual tuition is only $4,368, students can easily graduate with no tuition debt!
The SKY Merit Scholarship is for first-time college students with high school GPAs ranging from 4.0 to 2.5. The annual award amount ranges from $1,000 to $4,000 and is based on the student’s high school GPA. High school graduates are entering SKYCTC with an average high school GPA of 3.2*. This means the average first-time incoming student could receive $2,000 per year with the SKY Merit scholarship, which is almost half the cost of a full year of tuition.
Additional College Scholarships are also available by category. Some scholarships are need-based, while others are dedicated to students in specific disciplines, such as culinary arts, HVAC, and nursing.
*average GPA of incoming first-time freshman from 2018-2021
When starting a new adventure, sometimes the first step is the hardest. Schedule a campus visit, and learn about the many resources available to help students succeed in and after college at skyctc.edu.
The Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship (WRKS) can pay a student’s total tuition cost. WRKS is not based on a student’s income or age and allows students to earn up to 60 credit hours in high-demand career fields. Nearly all programs offered at SKYCTC qualify for the WRKS.

WKU
BY ANDREA HALESGreat universities elevate the communities they serve, and Western Kentucky University remains committed to producing graduates that are leaders in Southcentral Kentucky and beyond.

For over a century, WKU has provided students with hands-on, applied research and learning opportunities to ensure they graduate with practical skills that enable them to serve as difference-makers in their communities. WKU students, faculty, and staff are engaged in ongoing partnerships with some of Southcentral Kentucky’s key community organizations, including the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, Bowling Green Parks and Recreation, Lifeskills, Inc., Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Warren County Public Schools, Bowling Green Independent Schools, and Mammoth Cave National Park. The research and service opportunities provided by these partnerships equip Hilltoppers with real-world skills while also assisting our community in strategic operations and problem-solving.
With regional campus locations in Glasgow, Elizabethtown, Owensboro, and Somerset, WKU’s reach extends far beyond Bowling Green. In October 2022, WKU announced the creation of a new Early College at WKU in Glasgow program - a partnership between the university and seven area school districts that allows high school students to earn college credit in courses offered at the WKU Glasgow campus. Increasing access to the WKU Experience remains central to the university’s mission, and programs like this help deliver on that promise.
Whether pursuing a WKU degree at a regional campus or studying on the main campus in Bowling Green, Hilltoppers have access to the opportunities and amenities offered by a large public institution, such as unmatched academic and athletic traditions,

while also enjoying smaller class sizes, approachable and caring professors, and research opportunities.
WKU’s commitment to providing access and opportunity for all individuals who desire a college degree remains the catalyst for its unique and aggressive scholarship packages. In recent years, the university created one of Kentucky’s most generous scholarship programs to meet students’ needs and ease financial pressures. Now, approximately 90% of each incoming freshman class receives merit aid to help make the WKU Experience possible.
Life-changing opportunities and experiences await students at WKU. If you have not yet visited our stunning hilltop campus, schedule a tour today at www.wku.edu/visitwku to “Let the Adventure Begin!”
BECOME A HILLTOPPER
Hilltoppers know that a life at the top is worth the climb. WKU’s hands-on, real-world, applied-learning approach prepares graduates to stand out above the rest.

In fact, tourism is the third largest industry in Kentucky — employing several thousand residents, who are vital to our industry’s success.

The Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitors Bureau is the official destination management organization for Bowling Green and Warren County, and our mission is to promote our community as a visitor-friendly destination. Our office actively recruits new events and visitors through national and regional advertising, public relations, and outreach activities.
“Hospitality and tourism are crucial to Bowling Green and Warren County,” said Sherry Murphy, Executive Director of the Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Besides being key to the health of our local economy, a vibrant tourism scene is also critical to the quality of life in a community. Businesses want to relocate to cities with great amenities — and those often crossover with the types of venues and experiences tourists want to have.” Continued...

Bowling Green hot rods
BY ASHLEE WILSONThe Bowling Green Hot Rods are a Minor League Baseball team that competes in the High-A East League as the High-A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, with whom they have been affiliated since the team’s founding in 2009. The team is heading into their 14th season in Bowling Green as the Back-toBack High-A East Champions. The Hot Rods will play a 132-game schedule and host 66 contests at Bowling Green Ballpark over 11 home stands in 2023.
In 2022, the Bowling Green Hot Rods were recognized as the South Atlantic League Organization of the Year for their success on and off the field. Throughout the past six seasons, the Hot Rods have donated over $1.8M back into the South Central Kentucky community, Aside from the 66 Hot Rods home games, the ballpark hosted 176 additional events. In 2021, the Hot Rods won the High-A East Championship and had a record-breaking season with 85 wins. In 2018, the Hot Rods won their first Midwest League Championship. Since the 2019 season, the Hot Rods have had over 89 players make their Major League debut.

In 2019, the Hot Rods celebrated their first year under the team’s current ownership of Jack Blackstock, who helped spearhead the 2.5-million-dollar renovation of the Bowling Green Ballpark. The ballpark is a 4,350 seat, multi-function complex in the heart of downtown Bowling Green. More renovations concluded in 2022

with a new clubhouse for the team and will have new fan features debuting within the next two years. With more than just stadium seating, the ballpark features several picnic, patio, and play areas for fans to enjoy. The Hiller Kids Zone includes Axle’s Adventureland Playground presented by Van Meter Insurance, as well as a classic carousel and splash pad, and more. Celebrate birthdays and other special occasions on the Birthday Decks while enjoying the views from right field. The Coca-Cola Deck is a private covered, open-air picnic area located on the suite level on the first base side. The Happy Hiller Corner is an open patio area with three covered gazebos, as well as brand-new food and drink rails for an elevated experience. The covered gazebos are furnished with outdoor lounge furniture located on the left-field wall overlooking the Hot Rods bullpen. The Budweiser Zone is the largest picnic area in the ballpark with a three-tiered landing and is the prime location to catch your favorite player’s homerun. The Yuengling Tap

Room is a trendy lounge atmosphere featured on the concourse level of the ballpark. New in 2023 is the Jim Beam Bar located on the first base side of the ballpark. The Performance FoodService Stadium Club and Evan Williams Bar is an outstanding enclosed group area with an air-conditioned lounge and reserved seating on the balcony, located on the suite level behind home plate. This club is also used for meeting and event rentals throughout the year for corporate meetings, trainings as well as weddings and formal dinners.
Hot Rods baseball is more than just a sporting event, but a family-friendly, memory-making experience. From theme nights like Marvel’s Defenders of the Diamond Night to Unicorn Night, and playing as the Bootleggers and Bolidos de Bowling Green, we have entertainment planned for everyone. Games come packed with fun promotions giveaways, and celebrity appearances that keep fans coming back for more.
In addition to hosting the Hot Rods baseball team, Bowling Green Ballpark continues to host a multitude of professional, corporate, charity, and individual events, including large-scale concerts, charity walks, Bourbon and Brewfest presented by The Mint Gaming Hall, high school and college baseball tournaments, ultra-marathon, professional wrestling, and more.

Arts of southern Kentucky
BY JEFF REEDEvery good adventure is exciting. The outcome is uncertain and there is a sense of exploring something new. Great art is no different. Seeing a new Broadway show, watching a comedian, or hearing a new piece of music can be a thrilling experience. Downtown Bowling Green is home to the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center: A place where adventures happen.
SKyPAC is home to three resident companies: Orchestra Kentucky, the Ramsey Theatre Company, and BG OnStage.

Founded in 2000, Orchestra Kentucky quickly became South Central Kentucky’s professional orchestra. With more than 1,000 subscribers, the orchestra attributes its success to innovative programming designed to appeal to a variety of audiences. Orchestra Kentucky has backed legendary entertainers, including Neil Sedaka, Glen Campbell, Kenny Rogers, Paul Williams, and The 5th Dimension. It is involved in commissioning new works by popular performers, premiering compositions by Neil Sedaka, Keith Emerson, Peter Tork, Jimmy Webb, and PDQ Bach.
The newest resident company is the Ramsey Theatre Company. The RTC was formed in 2022 through
a generous gift from Robert P. Ramsey to produce professional-level musical theatre to serve the BRADD area. The Rita and Jim Scott Concert Hall at SKyPAC serves as its primary home. Principal roles are cast through nation-wide auditions with supporting roles filled by other accomplished actors. Orchestra Kentucky takes the place of honor in the Robin and David Ciochetty orchestra pit.
BG OnStage is SKyPAC’s resident community theatre. It is dedicated to bringing educational experiences and high-quality theatrical productions to the students and families of the BRADD area. Past productions have included The Hobbit, Junie B Jones JR the musical, The Giver, Frozen JR, Seussical JR, and Charlotte’s Web. For the last eight years, the theatre has prepared students who successfully auditioned for the Governor’s School for the Arts programs in Drama and Musical Theatre.
In addition to resident company productions, SKyPAC hosts touring and local events. Besides Broadway shows, Scott Hall has featured Christian, country, rock, pop, hip hop, Gospel, and blues concerts. Comedians, family programs, and game shows have taken the stage. The Nutcracker, holiday films and plays fill the calendar at Christmastime.
The facility has also hosted corporate events, lecturers, church services, dance and beauty competitions, and school ensembles.
To find out how to begin your artistic adventure, visit TheSKyPAC.com.

About Arts of Southern Kentucky

In 2020, with the assistance of the Warren County Fiscal Court and Judge Michael O. Buchanon, Orchestra Kentucky assumed management of the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center (SKyPAC). The new organization, which also includes BG Onstage and the Ramsey Theatre Company, is titled Arts of Southern Kentucky, and is led administratively and artistically by Jeffrey Reed. The Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center is a premier performing arts venue located in downtown Bowling Green, KY. The facility includes the Rita and Jim Scott Concert Hall, a 1,700-seat state-of-the-art auditorium; the Goodwin Gallery, the primary art exhibition space; the Renshaw Education Center which houses the Carol Wedge Studio Theater - a flexible 2,600 sq. ft. space for intimate productions and gatherings; several multi-functional rehearsal halls/classrooms; and the Denny and Carol Wedge Children’s Art Gallery.
