2021 Annual Report The story of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana’s 2021 Annual Report told through the eyes of a child.

A Story From Our Leader In 2021, we returned to the basics – the after-school programming that’s been impacting the communities of Northwest Indiana for over 60 years. And we accomplished some great things this past year.

Our Youth of the Year Marcus Steele, Jr. was named one of six national Youth of the Year finalists. Marcus is an exceptional young man, and we look forward to watching his great future unfold.

We also broke ground on a new $9 million Club in Valparaiso. The new facility is over 36,000 square feet and sits on eight acres. The new Valpo Club will be state of the art – offering a STEM lab, a full-size gym, rock climbing wall, teaching kitchen, Exergaming space and more.

Our Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Action committee members as well as a cross-section of employees invested nearly 1,000 hours in training and planning. Our collective experiences informed the Organization’s Equity Strategy Plan which addresses the systematic nature of racism. The plan’s pillars for advancement include: Racial Equity Strategy, Board Leadership, Resource Development, Staff Development, Youth & Family Services and Continuous Improvement.

We couldn’t do any of this without the support of the people in and out of our communities who support our mission. We’re grateful for their generosity and dedication.

A Note About Our Report This year’s report looks a little different. We wondered how our Club members might conceptualize an annual report – what words like “finance” and “donors” might mean to them. So we asked.

The pages that follow are inspired by Isaiah, an eight-year-old from our South Haven Club.

All of the typical information is there, but wrapped in Isaiah’s story of a traveling dinosaur. It’s a good reminder that a child’s imagination, much like their potential, is limitless.
