FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES On behalf of the Fenwick Board of Trustees, thank you to everyone who is celebrated in this Report of Giving. With your enthusiastic support, we continue to advance our mission, to strengthen our school, and to transform the lives of a new generation of Crusaders. Your generosity makes such a difference for Fenwick. It provides the tangibles, such as a deep and broad academic curriculum, an array of offerings in the arts and athletics, and the necessary investments in our 60-acre campus. More importantly, it nourishes the intangibles that are at the heart of Fenwick—community spirit, authentic connection, and life-long relationships. As our Commonwealth and our country make our way through the ongoing pandemic, we are pleased to share that Fenwick has consistently risen to the challenge! This past year, Fenwick was lauded by students and parents for the quality and stability of its educational experience. Fenwick maintained high scholarly standards while providing individualized academic support. The quality of instruction, even on two simultaneous platforms—in class and via Zoom—was testimony to the skill, creativity, and dedication of our teachers. Fenwick’s athletic program was in full swing throughout all four (not just the usual three) “seasons” of the year. We even had four-sport athletes who discovered new passions and skills. Fenwick’s extra-curricular program was continually robust, from Zoom plays and live art shows to movie nights and various club events. Recognizing how critical and vital these activities are to student life—and to student health—Fenwick went “above and beyond” to provide meaningful engagement and social interaction. We thank our President, Tom Nunan, our Principal, Cecilia Márquez, the members of the administration and staff, and most importantly our extraordinary teachers for all that they did to make this possible. Only with your help are we able to attract and retain the very best educators on the North Shore. When our students returned to fully in-person learning last spring, some seeing classmates “on the other side of the alphabet” for the first time in months, the vibe was exhilarating. When the Class of 2021 celebrated their memorable Senior Week—which included a real Prom, on campus, under a tent, complete with lawn games in formal attire—the energy was palpable. And when we celebrated Commencement on a glorious spring night, on the turf with the graduates and their families, the sense of pride and joy was beyond measure. Fenwick has proven once again that it is a vibrant, dynamic, resilient, and faith-filled community. We believe that the educational experience offered at Fenwick—an experience that is holistic, balanced, student-centered, and morally grounded—has never been more necessary and more relevant. Especially with all that is happening in our world, your selfless gift matters, for you are helping Fenwick to be a beacon of light and a source of hope. We invite our fellow alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends to join us in moving Fenwick forward. The School needs our help now more than ever. We are all stakeholders in Fenwick’s future and we have a shared responsibility in Fenwick’s success. With a more robust Institutional Advancement Team focused on serving and engaging our alumni, we hope more of us will become involved with Fenwick. Together, we have done extraordinary things for Fenwick. On behalf of our entire Fenwick Family, we express our deep and profound gratitude to each of you for helping us to achieve unparalleled success—a record total of $750,083 from 817 donors! Thank you! Thank you for your faithful commitment to our sacred mission of providing a dynamic, holistic, studentcentered, and faith-filled experience for the next generation of Crusaders. Thank you for your wonderful support of our people, as your contributions help to fund scholarships for students and to enhance salaries for teachers. Thank you for your investment in our program, for your donations make possible everything from Campus Ministry and Student Activities Council to athletic competition and fine arts performances. Thank you, most importantly, for your witness of stewardship and leadership. Through your selfless generosity, you have set an example that inspires all of us in the Fenwick Family. Because of you, even during a global pandemic, we have set an even higher standard in creating a positive, vibrant culture of philanthropy at Fenwick! As donors, benefactors, and volunteers, you understood that Fenwick needed you. Amidst the polarization and division of our time, you appreciated that we needed to come together. Precisely as young people are dealing with so much angst and anxiety, you knew that our students were looking to you. You responded. And our exemplary Board led the way. Together, you reveal the strength of Fenwick’s history and you reflect the promise of Fenwick’s future. Finally, I share with you the voices of our Commencement Speakers: And finally, to my fellow graduates. Thank you for being my family for the past four years. Although we are all going our separate ways, no distance could erase the friendships we’ve built. We went through something that no other graduating class has experienced, and these trying times only brought us closer. I wish you all the best and hope your journey allows you to make all of your dreams come true. Once a Crusader, always a Crusader. (Alexa Bettencourt ’21, Senior Class President; now at the University of Virginia) Being a part of the Fenwick community has also helped me find parts of myself that I love, aside from academics. Ever since freshman year, I have been involved with the Best Buddies club here at Fenwick. From bingo nights and Halloween dances to kickball tournaments and friendship walks, being involved in Best Buddies has created so many fun memories…and often helped me put my life into perspective. Because of this club, I have truly learned the importance of inclusion for all. (Samantha Cahill ’21, Salutatorian; now at Northeastern University) My experience at Fenwick has taught me to consider that while I might be the sun in my own solar system, everyone else is a bright star as well, hissing with hurt, glowing with promise, and burning with dreams. Our actions have consequences. We can affect each other in such surprising ways. Stars orbit each other, create constellations together, even collide. Together, we have done the same: creating lasting friendships, beautiful memories, and even warm moments just by greeting each other in the halls. We have created this amazing cosmos, brought together by fate or random chance (whichever you believe) as the Bishop Fenwick Class of 2021 and we have changed each other. Here are 3 easy ways to create your legacy at Bishop Fenwick High School with a planned gift: Will or Trust: A very easy way to create your legacy at Fenwick is through your will or living trust. You can name the school in your will or trust with a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate. Just a few sentences in your will or trust are all that is needed.
