Greetings
Family & Friends,
“It is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that I welcome you tonight!” These words, spoken by Lumiere to Belle right before “Be our Guest,” are quite fitting for the opening of this director’s note. I am so happy with this production of Beauty and the Beast and I’m incredibly proud of the students and all their hard work! I really can’t wait for you to see it! One of my favorite songs in the show is “Home” sung by Belle. This is a song that is not found in the original cartoon movie; it was added to the Broadway show when it opened in 1994. Belle is looking for her home. It’s not in the poor, provincial town where she feels like she doesn’t fit in and she can’t imagine the enchanted castle ever being her home either! And that got me thinking about home, especially this year when my own home has my college students living away and my adult son working full-time and hardly ever home! I always want my kids to feel like my house is their home, no matter how old they are or where they go in life. But then I realized that, if you’re lucky, you can have multiple places that feel like home! I hear this a lot when alumni come back to Fenwick - they say it feels like coming home! When my students are performing, they say the stage is their home! Home can be the physical building you’re in, but it’s also about the people inside the building. For me at Fenwick, that includes these amazing and inspiring students, my colleagues who have become my friends, and our Fenwick administration whose support for the arts has been unwavering! I owe a huge thank you to Mr. Dugan, Ms. Mahoney, Mrs. Timson, Mr. Canniff and especially our president, Tom Nunan, who has promoted our show on all versions of social media and who agreed to a surprise cameo! (You’ll see soon enough!)
And finally, my own production team has become like a family to me, and when I’m with them, I feel like I’m home! Our music director and my twin sister, Kerrie Fraser, our producer/choreographer, Sarah LoPresti, our Tech Director, Tom Cox, our Set Builder, Fred Gallagher, and our Costume Designer Tricia Freitas. I can’t even begin to thank them for their creative vision, their hard work, talent, dedication, resourcefulness, and just allaround positivity! They made this process fun and enriching - and our show is the better for it, but even more importantly, our community is better for it! Everyone working together, doing whatever it takes to get the job done and smiling through all of it.
Thank you Fenwick family, thank you production team, thank you students, and thank you, our audience for coming out and supporting us! Your presence here means the world to us!
So I invite you to relax, pull up a chair, as Fenwick Performing Arts proudly presents, “Beauty and the Beast.”
Dr. Kellie Tropeano
Fine Arts Department Chairperson Theatre Director
To the Cast and Crew of Beauty and the Beast
and the Family and Friends:
I am in awe of the cast and crew for their passion and love for this performance that I was able to witness. All of your hard work and dedication is truly inpiring and you bless me with so much joy every rehearsal! I love seeing you work as a team and be there for each other on and off the stage! You should be so proud of everything you have accomplished, I know I am!
Drama Club Family and Friends, I want to personally thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your support and generosity help us immensely in putting on the best performance we can. From tech week dinners, to water donations, carpooling, and raffle baskets, it truly takes a village and we would be lost without you!
To the seniors, I am so grateful to have met you when you were freshman and watch you become the amazing people that you are today. It is bittersweet to say this is our last musical together, but remember to always stay connected, keep performing, and always come back home to Fenwick. This is not farewell, this is see you VERY soon!
