Bishop Fenwick High School Named a Gold Medal School on the Advanced Placement School Honor Roll for Second Consecutive Year
Fenwick recognized for success in AP program while expanding access
Peabody, MA – The College Board has announced that Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody, MA, has been named to the 2024 Advanced Placement® (AP®) Program School Honor Roll, earning Gold distinction for the second year in a row.
The AP School Honor Roll acknowledges schools that deliver strong student outcomes while expanding access to AP courses. Schools are recognized annually with bronze, silver, gold, or platinum distinctions based on their efforts to foster a college-going culture, offer students the opportunity to earn college credit, and enhance college readiness.
In receiving Gold Medal recognition for 2024, Fenwick excelled in three key areas:
• College Culture: Gold – 71% of the graduating class took at least one AP exam during their time at Fenwick (the Gold standard is 65%).
• College Credit: Gold – 40% of the graduating class scored a 3, 4, or 5 on at least one AP exam (the Gold requirement is 35%).
• College Optimization: Platinum – 23% of the graduating class took five or more AP exams, with at least one taken in 9th or 10th grade (the Platinum standard is 15%).
“AP gives students the opportunity to engage with college-level work, to earn college credit and placement, and to potentially boost their grade point averages,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program. “The schools that have earned this distinction are proof that it is possible to expand access to these college-level courses and still drive strong performance – they represent the best of AP.”
Fenwick President Tom Nunan congratulated the school’s students “for both seeking and meeting the most demanding academic challenges.” Nunan added, “This recognition reflects our commitment to academic rigor and college readiness. Special appreciation goes to our dedicated AP teachers, Principal Chris Canniff and Academic Dean Marybeth Mahoney, for their roles in bringing out the best in all the students at Fenwick.”
