Greetings and salutations! I would like to express my genuine appreciation of you, your passionate vision and entrepreneurial spirit.

By obtaining our magazine you’ve identified yourself as one of the elite men of God that desires to promote the Kingdom of God in business, leadership and your personal life. You Meir recognition and that’s the reason for publishing The UncomMAN magazine. This is a digital magazine that impacts a generation of men with uncertainties in life’s well as youth at risk to strive for excellence and view God’s intent for man.

Our focus is FAITH, FAMILY, SPORTS, MARKETPLACE & COMMUNITY. Providing the view of a true, successful Christian man who doesn’t compromise his values is needed in retrospect to what is depicted in the world today. Our objective with this platform is to highlight Christian men doing uncommon things in an uncommon way contrary to the world’s common way of doing things. Uncommon is rare, out of the ordinary, unusual and unconventional.

Today in the USA we have experienced a major reset since 2020 that has impacted our youth tremendously.

Morally things are terrible. Forty percent of children are born in the world without their biological parents caring for them. Sixty-three percent of teen suicides are by children without fathers in the home and ninety percent of homeless and runaways are from fatherless homes. This is becoming common and it takes a spiritual and moral attitude to aid in saving our children.

Seeing a true role-model is seeing a father involved in his child(rens) lives. Let them see you in taking the initiative to make them great and or a royal priesthood. It takes more than being good, it requires being Godly.

ark Jackson is an exceptional and well-respected executive leader, known for his transformational approach to problem solving, ability to collaborate with and lead global teams and leaders, focus on execution and a decisive and strategic approach to leadership. Having led a diverse group of business and IT organizations through several key initiatives, he is always working to assure that business value, staff development and effective long-term results are delivered.

He is a Mentor to many and a trusted leader to his business partners and staff.

Mark began his distinguished career in the automotive industry at Chrysler Corporation, where he worked through several leadership roles in both business and IT functions. These included stints in accounting, finance, strategy, procurement and various IT roles. With outstanding business skills, operational insight and an advanced technology background, he led many ground breaking initiatives. With the merger of Chrysler and Daimler-Benz, he was named the Mercedes Benz USA CIO, responsible for all information technology management. While in that role, his organization reduced operational costs of IT, grew internal staff, revamped the entire systems infrastructure, built a full-scale development and test lab and deployed enterprise systems in all major business functions. In his tenure, his team also completed development and deployed the industry’s first web based, integrated dealer communications system.

Mark returned to Chrysler to lead the company’s internal technology investment organization. Working with executive leadership, his organization developed the company’s overall technology integration strategy. He went on to become Chryslers International CIO, responsible for global systems and strategy. He then became the Procurement Systems Executive before leaving to join General Motors (GM).

Joining GM as the North American PIO for Business Systems, Mark quickly assumed responsibility for GM’s Global Finance Systems and led that Organization through GM’s Business restructuring. He then had an 18-month stint as the European Global Sales, Services and Marketing IT Director. He was asked to return as the Finance Systems Global Director, leading the restructuring of the Finance Systems Organization. Finally, serving as the Global Director of HR Systems.

A graduate of Western Michigan University’s Haworth College of Business, BBA – Finance, Wayne State University, MBA – Management Information Systems and the Executive Education program at INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France. Mark has also completed postgraduate studies at IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland. Mark is past President of the 250K WMU Alumni Association and is a member of the College of Business Advisory Board. He is also an Advisory Board member of ITEAM LLC, a private CEO Think Tank. Additionally, he currently serves as Board Chair for a startup Non-Profit focused on personal individual development. He is married to LaTonya, a licensed minister, the father of two and grandfather of one.

In a recent interview Mark shared some of the insights he has gained during his illustrious career.

Growing up in working class Saginaw, MI, I never imagined or foresaw my career. It was full of firsts and gave me the opportunity to impact and be impacted by others. While I was often the first, I am proud to say I was rarely the last! I always wanted to make sure others like me got an opportunity. I have benefited from world travel and the many cultures and people I have been privileged to work with and learn from. Travel gives one perspective, that can only be gained by interaction outside of your home culture. It’s amazing how self-absorb many are because they have never seen life lived by someone outside of their culture. Global travel aside, I also benefited from a robust career that did not limit me from developing many valuable skills and sharping my business acumen. While those opportunities came my way, it took faith, not fear to pursue them, even when they were outside my comfort zone.

As I enter yet another phase of my professional life, I am now focused on helping others to achieve their dreams. I started Veracity (truth) with this in mind, I want to help those with the interest and drive to realize their unlimited potential.

With that as a backdrop, I want share some of the simple insights I learned in my journey, I pray that they help, encourage and support others in theirs.

You are a product of the environment you help to create…

We often seek to blame others for bad situations in our life. We are quick to point out how they have not helped, hindered or supported us in some way. There is nothing new here, it’s just life. It can be painful to accept our role in a situation we desperately want to flee from. When pressed to our limits we might finally accept our role or contribution but sometimes it’s a long painful path to that realization and acceptance. Consider your ways and your situation, you are sure to find you are a product of the environment you have helped to create.

I was asked to share a few words at a meeting on our organizations culture, commitment and the role each played in the organization’s success. Being one of the organizations leaders, I knew most of our challenges. As I thought through my words to the group, it became clear many of those challenges were common to the group and at times to me! While I might have handled them differently, I to had been guilty of infractions that were inconsistent with a commitment to our organization’s success. Considering my own history, forced me to see how I too had been a contributor to the behavior and environment we needed to address. Once you realize your faults you have three options, fix, flee or blame.

Accepting my role, forced me to see that it was not “them” but “us” and sometimes “me”! I understood I was a product of the environment that I had helped to create. I shared this perspective with those gathered that morning and suddenly the light went on. The change we needed was not external but internal, we needed to reclaim both the commitment and understanding of why we were there. This is sometimes a difficult point of personal reflection but necessary to fix what’s broken. Did you fully commit to what you committed to or was it about the reward, an impulse or a moment of reaction rather than reflection? For those of us in that room who truly made and meant the commitment, it became a time of renewal and recharging. It allowed us to move forward with a clear understanding and commitment. For others it signaled the time to move on to something else. Both decisions were valid and necessary.

Those who knew it was time to move on were now free to seek the right opportunities for them. You see, it’s more important to make a good decision than to live a lukewarm existence doing something you can’t truly commit or is aligned with purpose.

God has placed in all of us the desire to find that thing that we were built for. The trying and learning process should not hold you hostage, but free you to pursue that “thing”. If you find yourself in a situation that limits your choices, a job, a relationship, a personal or family commitment, remember you own the responsibility to address what needs to be done to change the environment and situation.

There is a significant difference between effort and commitment.

You may have heard the adage of the chicken and pig? In brief summary the chicken lays the eggs that make up the Great American Breakfast and moves on, the pig however makes the supreme sacrifice to contribute our cultures beloved bacon. The jest of the story is simple, they both contribute but the pig does not get out alive!

We are all asked in our daily lives to make some sacrifice to achieve our objectives. There is a level of sacrifice and commitment required in this life. Even if you want to accomplish the simplest objectives. To make breakfast, you have to get out of bed and gather the needed ingredients and go to work. It even takes effort to eat your masterpiece, if you don’t take a bite and then chew, you will fail to enjoy or benefit from your effort. Forgive my simple example but it speaks to the fact that everything takes effort and commitment to achieve.

We often marvel at the accomplishments of others and wish we had done or achieved what they have. While they successfully reached a milestone or maybe even a lifetime achievement, yours is not out of reach, should you decide it’s worth the effort and commitment. You see, it all starts with getting out of bed or off that chair and starting the journey.

At some point in life, we all commit to something, even if it’s failure. Failure is a choice, don’t misunderstand me, we all fail at things but the willful acceptance of failure, as our life-defining event, is a choice. After every one of my failures the sun did set and rise and a new day offered me new opportunity, some thoughtful learning’s and the potential to move forward and work towards a better outcome.

I watched my children learn to walk, I saw them study how the big people around them did it and try to emulate the example. They would fall, rollover and sometimes cry. While they sometimes got a bump or scrape, they continued to give it another go, until one day they found the magic, the ability to stand and take that first step. They were never deterred for more than a moment, their relentless pursuit of the objective to stand and walk drove them to keep getting up and trying one more time. They would use any support they could find, a table, a chair even one of my legs to help better their chances of achieving the objective to walk. Then one day it happened and soon became as natural and easy as something they never had to learn, breathing.

That thing that drove my children to stand and walk is still in them and still in you. That drive to pursue something until it is yours is still there, maybe a bit out of practice but still there! I wish I could say it will be easy, it may not be.

However, that does not mean it’s not possible. Be committed to your success and your success will be committed to you.

You are believed, when you believe!

I have often marveled at the skill of a successful salesperson to guide a perspective customer through the process of seeing the value of their product or service, identifying its value and specific attributes and how they would enhance their company or personal lives. I have also painfully experienced someone who is selling. The person whose only vested interest is in getting you to say “yes”, with little regard for the impact on you the buyer, just the potential benefit to them. Then there is a sales person who is yet to develop the skills, acumen and understanding of either the customer or product and seemingly fumbles at every turn.

While each may achieve some measure of success, be it through skill, force, fast talking or a sympatric customer who only wants to end the pain. All must face the real challenge of convincing the customer to choose or not.

This process also comes into play when we are presenting ourselves to others, be it in an interview, presentation or a debate. When do we cross the threshold of success or failure? My experience has always shown this to be true; others believe me when I believe me. In other words, until I am fully convinced that my product, service or even myself have real value, I will struggle to convince others of that value.

When we can’t see the value of an idea, product or service the ability to stand in front of one person or one hundred and move them from, “I hear you” to “I will take some of that” becomes increasingly difficult. Simply put, you are believed when you believe!

Sometimes in life’s journey, you have to ask for directions…

Life is a short but deliberate marathon, filled with moments that one can anticipate and those that seemingly come out of nowhere. We cycle through opportunities, challenges, successes and failures, all culminating in a journey that is uniquely our own. What we do at those times, in those moments, may define your life past and present. After all, how many life defining moments does one person get? Some of our greatest hero’s and she-hero’s, had two, maybe three, defining moments in their lives. While I hope you are blessed with all the moments you need, understand those opportunities are fleeting!

When facing those times, when you are truly in need of some help, guidance, correction or clarity, where do you turn, who do you trust? While that answer is deeply personal, I pray that in your journey you have cultivated relationships with those you can turn to. Why? While no one gets to their promised land alone, failure has proved that it follows those that need no one but themselves.

Needing help, guidance or direction in your life is not a sign of weakness, however recognizing it is a sign of maturity. Recognizing your personal limitations and need for help, is a step in the direction of your growth and success.

Looking to those who have already plowed some of the field you endeavor to successfully seed and harvest will only shorten your journey. Direction will limit your mistakes and reduce missed opportunities. We all need someone who will look us in the eye and ask the difficult questions. Those who challenge our thinking, that may come from emotion rather than sound thought. Those who will give you a safe forum to vet your ideas while adding value and promoting critical thinking and analysis. Remember, any idea that you are afraid to have challenged has already failed your own personal analysis. Don’t let pride or a rigid perspective stand in the way of your success, build a high-quality trusted network and use it!

The wisdom of a fortune cookie…

Having a lunch at a favorite Chinese Restaurant with work colleagues, we would always end with a comparison of the notes found in our fortune cookies. A uniquely American invention by the way. While often amusing, sometimes interesting, this day mine was profound, “your fears can never be bigger than your dreams”. Wow! The great insight that comes with words that can change your perspective and your life overcame me! I folded that little slip of paper and have kept it.

Until that moment, I had not realized that my fears were often the things that kept me from my complete success. I was successful, but had I really achieved all that I was capable of, probably not. This “fortune” in its simple language said it all, our limitations are and have always been our fears and personal limitations based on our fears. As I walked back to my office, I ran through the examples in my life where those fears had stopped or slowed me in my tracks and decided, never again!

The Influential Giant Tyrone Keys

T

yrone Keys is known on and off the football field as a legend and a mentor; someone who really cares. He played defensive end for the 1985 NFL World Championship Team Chicago Bears, who were voted by USA Today as the Top Football Team in the past 100 years. The 1985 Bears held a viably important place in sports history during this time. They had a heart for its community and decided to aid in the needs of people in poverty-stricken areas of Chicago. They went on to win the NFL Super Bowl championship and created a rap song and dance called “The Super Bowl Shuffle.” The late great Walter Payton stated, “The Bears had a goal since training camp to bring Chicago a Super Bowl Champ . . . we are doing this to feed the needy not the greedy.” This unforgettable song was nominated for a Grammy and sold over a million copies with proceeds going to needy Chicagoans. This video can still be viewed on YouTube with Tyrone Keys on keyboards.

In 1986 Keys was traded to the Buccaneers and it was there he began to find his passion for his God given work. He ended his professional NFL career where he suffered a career ending back injury causing him to retire in 1990. Keys remembers vividly, the Championship Bears were to be honored at the White House by President Ronald Reagan but didn’t materialize understandably being overshadowed by the tragic destruction of the Space Shuttle Challenger two days after the Super Bowl.

It was in 2011 that the Chicago Bears were honored at the White House by native Chicagoan, President Barack Obama who called them “The best of all times.”

Keys was born in Brookhaven, Mississippi to the parents of Johnnie and Shelton Keys. At the age of ten he founded his own football player draft in his neighborhood. Later in life he learned of the NFL’s player draft system. After his professional career he founded All Sports Community Service, Inc (ASCS). which aims to assist youth in obtaining college scholarships for both genders.

Keys played a pivotal role in the victory of the Callaway Chargers High School which became the first integrated football team in Jackson, MS to win a State Championship. Keys attended Mississippi State University where he was ALL SEC Performer three times.

Let’s look at Heather Castle, who currently is director of activities and training for the Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Tampa Bay, Florida.

Tyrone Keys was a positive influence on her life as a youth. Castle knows the value of having a mentor in her life at the age of fifteen. It was then that Keys helped to fulfill her dream of playing college basketball at St Leo University.

Keys taught her the value of believing in her dream and working towards making them come into fruition. He also taught her the value of community involvement and helping others whenever possible.

Keys has assisted hundreds of young people to become the first in their families to attend college and graduate. He has a great philosophy that he instills into the youth he mentors and that is “Each Generations Bears The Responsibility To Pass Its knowledge, Skill and Wisdom to The Next.” These very individuals who were considered high risk, good for nothing are now an elite alumni of lawyers, doctors, ministers, bank vice presidents, high school principals, successful entrepreneurs and directors of youth organizations.

oday, these highly recognized citizens in society have brought into existence more impactful educators, coaches and mentors that return and keep the ball rolling with the next generation in mind.

This is a powerful means of application that must be duplicated today.

In 2002, Keys was elected to the Mississippi State Hall of Fame and in 2003 he was elected to the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame along with many other formidable awards. One of many aspiring testimonies of ASCS is Brad Holmes, now General Manager of the Detroit Lions who was a student of mentor Tyrone Keys. Holmes and others like him express the dynamics this mentorship program is accomplishing. Holmes focused on becoming an NFL Scout. He continually pursued his dream and passion without compromise. He became the Director of College Scouting for the Los Angeles Rams and today is in a dynamic and strategic position with the Detroit Lions but remains an ASCS Alumni Mentor.

Keys admits that one of the highlights he’s encountered among many is his trip to the Holy Land for ten days with other NFL peers. His experience was so gratifying and educational. His love for Jesus Christ surged within him even more as he walked where Jesus walked when He was on earth. He had the opportunity to view a beautiful land of Israel and visit the Shalva National Center where challenged children with disabilities awaited them. Upon their arrival the children proved too have great abilities and took great joy in their visit. A number of the players who visited along with Keys wore their Super Bowl rings. Some of the players that were a part of the delegation were Tyson Alualu of the Pittsburgh Steelers, retired Don Carey, III of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Michael Pierce of the Baltimore Ravens, Miles Killebrew of the Detroit Lions, Warrick Dunn, who played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Atlanta Falcons, Tommie Harris of the Chicago Bears along with Coach Jim Caldwell. Returning to the United States of America they visited the Bible Museum in Washington, D.C. to top off their excursion.

Keys organizational goal for ASCS is to offer first generation college bound students and student athletes the opportunity to get accepted and graduate from college, become productive citizens, community servants and mentors for others.

Tyrone Keys is truly a man of God with a heart for the betterment of people and his love for sports. He’s the Influential Giant that causes individuals to fulfill their God given dreams.

From Gridiron To Gospel Roman Gabrielle, III

R

oman Gabrielle, III is the son of an icon, his father Roman Gabriel became the first Filipino-American quarterback in the NFL. The best years of this iconic figure was in the 1960s and early 1970s. As most boys would do, Roman, III wanted to be like his father. Those were some pretty big shoes to fill.

The legendary player spent eleven seasons with the Los Angels Rams and his last five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. While in high school he met Suzanne Horton while playing football and being challenged with asthma.

Roman’s dad became the number two pick in the 1962 draft. His father and mother had three sons Roman, III, and Ram Allen and Rory Jay Gabriel.

His football career meant being away from home quite a bit. His closest relationship with his children was with Roman Gabriel, III who wanted to play football like his dad. He played pro football for the Oakland Raiders until a neck injury ended his NFL dreams, yet God had bigger dreams for him.

Roman, III is a Christian radio host, motivational speaker, and evangelist. He’s President of Sold Out Ministries and a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Boone, North Carolina.. His ministry focuses on using the Super Bowl week to propagate the Gospel by interviewing NFL payers about their faith. Whenever he speaks his name demands attention because of the recognition of his father’s career. Yet, Roman, III stands on his own impacting the world with his heartfelt ministry to youth.

He’s spoke to thousands of middle and high school students on staying drug and alcohol free as a motivational speaker. He also is host of Sports Talk, a radio program on American Family Radio which is syndicated across 200 cities.

Roman, III uses technology in his ministry from the Gridiron to the Gospel. He admits his childhood was definitely out of the norm. His life was always engulfed by by a professional football environment. All of Roman, III upbringing from a child until he graduated from high school was filled with his father’s impeccable career. His family life was engulfed with the media. It wasn’t until his parents divorced that Roman, III felt a deeper need for Jesus. He tried throwing himself into filling the void by playing football where he felt comfortable. Yet, after practice and games were over he felt ,the frustration, anger and pain of the divorce of his parents. He had lost all joy. No mattered what he accomplished in life he had a major void within him and needed the pain to go away and only Jesus could do it.

It was at a Billy Graham Crusade with his Pop Warner football team at the age of nine he realized God wanted hi to have a personal relationship with Him by trusting Him as his Savior.

Four years thereafter it happened, I accepted Jesus as My personal Savior at a church youth retreat. This was quite a time for Roman, III yet he didn’t really understand fully what this all meant until his college years and two of his teammates explained and shared with him. It was then that he made a commitment to Christ Jesus on and off the field. This was and is the best decision of his life. It was during this time God prepared him for football and eventually a full time ministry career.

The life experiences of peaks and valleys gave him insight to sharing the Gospel with passion, intensity and clarity. Today, he ministers to high school and adult football players. He teaches football skills and life principles from the bible that’s straight forward and challenging. He ministers everywhere, conferences, Sunday morning services, youth, banquets, outreaches, , men’s events. For 18 years he has covered the annual Super Bowl through his television show “Sold Out” with streaming video and video updates posted on his website. His stories include testimonies from players on the two competing teams, from coaches, and from past champions.

Part of Roman, III’s work is to enlist professional players to join him in modeling Biblical values to young aspiring athletes. He says, “I am grateful to God for the privilege to challenge church leadership, men’s ministry, youth, and family with the most powerful message in the world – the Gospel!”

His life’s verse is Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans that I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, so that you might have a future and a hope.”

Taking Learning To A New Level Rev. George Bridges

L

et me introduce you to a man of God who is truly humble in nature and inspiring in his ability to teach and empower you.

The clarity and transparent manner in which he presents valuable information leaves you with the thought “I’ve got to cherish what he said to me.” Why would one say that? Because what George Bridges says to you is invaluable towards making a change in your life and your business. He’s like E. F. Hutton- when he speaks everybody listens.

Against all odds, George is part of an elite group of men who were record breaking athletes in track and field at the University of Florida. Having lettered 12 times in Track and Field in his four-year college career, George’s mile time of 4 minutes and 3 seconds was in the top 10 all-time record for the University of Florida for 40 years. A former marathon runner, he understands what it takes to succeed. People are blessed everywhere he goes as he pours into them the grit to push against the odds.

As an ordained minister and entrepreneur he expounds the Word of God in the same manner anointed by God. It all boils down to lifestyle.

As Christian believers we exemplify God in our lifestyle which should never display anything contrary to the image of God. George Bridges is a dynamic preacher of faith and a first-class businessman who helps the body of Christ discover the gift God has placed in them, and to use that gift to win in life. George has a passion for evangelism and workplace ministry. He fully utilizes technology to spread the gospel around the world.

As a result of his athletic history, George and his wife Carolyn established a podcast called Marathon Faith. It offers faith tools to help Christians stand on the Word of God until victory is won. When he ministers, the anointing is evident. He helps people to see that their work is their God-given appointment to inherently bring blessing to themselves and those they encounter, wherever they are and whatever they do.

A graduate of Pistis School of Ministry (formerly known as Word of Faith School of Ministry), George accepted a position at Word of Faith International Christian Center, a local church that preaches the gospel to tens of thousands worldwide, where he was Director of Information Technology. George transitioned to pursue his career in training and development at the International Institute for Learning, which has taken him across the globe.

George’s ministry experience extends all over the world including Dubai and Singapore. He spreads the gospel in a way that touches people in the core of their being, inspiring them to live for Jesus.

George and his wife Carolyn reside in the metropolitan Detroit area. They have three children, Johnny, Aubrey, Camille, and one grandchild, Xzavier.

As an entrepreneur of an international consulting firm he impacts all nationalities that contract his firm. He leaves a trail of improvement, excellence and satisfied customers. George is so on demand internationally providing training in Singapore, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, England, Germany, Nigeria, South Africa, India, Canada, Ireland, Ukraine, Hungary and Spain. He identifies the business problem by identifying an opportunity and recommending a solution or set of solutions. Of course there’s more involved because now there’s the need for a project manager and his/her team to execute the dynamics rendered as solutions. He, as a teenager and young adult overcame the world of alcohol, drugs, bullying, and teenage premarital sex. His experience and deliverance makes him a straight talking advocate providing students with insightful information that inspires and motivates them. His genuine time spent with youth empowers them to deviate from at-risk behaviors that can lead them down the paths of darkness, depression, despair and in some cases death.

Pastor Gray’s passion and desire to see all young men become empowered men of integrity with strong moral values develops the character to lead a country by starting with their home and community. He has spoken to thousands of teenagers in the United States of America, Africa, Mexico, Jamaica, Belize and Haiti.
