15 Getting Back To Setting Priorities & Discipline
From the Editor
September arrives with a quiet kind of power — the kind that doesn’t shout, but shifts. It’s the month when life steadies, routines return, and God invites us to rebuild with intention. After the movement and looseness of summer, September feels like a reset, a recalibration, a gentle reminder to come back to our priorities. To choosing discipline. To refining vision. To the posture of listening for God’s direction in the stillness. September teaches us that growth doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it looks like consistency. Sometimes it looks like clarity. Sometimes it looks like choosing what aligns and releasing what doesn’t. And sometimes it looks like simply showing up — fully, honestly, and ready for what God is shaping next. As you move through these pages, I pray you feel grounded, inspired, and strengthened for the season ahead. May this month bring you back to your purpose, your identity, and your rhythm. Welcome to September. Let’s begin again — with intention and with grace. — Myra Skelton Editor-in-Chief

"ROUTE 66"
ROUTE 66 was a popular American television drama that premiered on CBS in 1960 and ran until 1964. Although it is often remembered as a “70s” classic, the original series was actually from the early 1960s. It was about two travelers who drove from place to place, usually finding themselves in situations involving friendship, hardship, romance, family problems, injustice, work, and personal choices.
“adventures from which we can learn some great lessons.“ The famous U.S. Route 66 served as the backdrop, but the show was about much more than the highway. Each episode told a different story about the people they encounter. As we travel down the road of life, we also encounter many obstacles and challenges. If you please, I want to take a trip down Route 66. We always start at the POB, point of beginning. This road is a dark place that’s found in Genesis 1:1-2, yet it is also the (PNR) Point of no return, which means once you begin this journey, there is no turning back. Just as in the TV show, we too will meet some people and situations and adventures from which we can learn some great lessons.
Now, time will not permit me to give you all the individual experiences, but tonight I will share a few. On my travels down Route 66, I met a couple named Adam and Eve. They had two Sons, but it was rumored that each of them had a sister who was born with them, which means they were twins. As I kept on traveling down ROUTE 66, I came across a Gentleman. He was building a gigantic boat, but he was screaming to the people around that a great storm of rain was coming, like our modern-day tsunami, according to the report recorded in Genesis 6. Noah carried out the demand of God. The rain came as he said; a full account is in the report found in the book of Genesis. Now while traveling down Route 66 I want to share with you an event that I thought to be very strange but, I learned a lot from watching a 98lb boy, who had complete unwavering faith and confidence in a unseen GOD, who was standing before a 12 foot giant ready to fight him, this gave me courage as I saw him standing there and I overheard him say to the giant. 45 " Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
" I watched in amazement as that little 98lb boy had an old-fashioned slingshot in his hand; he picked a rock from his leather pouch, and slung the thing, and wham, that big old 12-foot giant fell flat on his face. I later learned that his name was David, and the giant that he killed was named Goliath. As time went on, the same David grew up and became a commander of Saul's army, the same king who defended against Goliath. He also wound up marrying Saul's daughter Michal and became a enuine friend to her brother Jonathan. It was a great feast; you'd have had to be there. It might sound a little crazy, but David's father-in-law put a hit out on his own son-in-law. After I heard about that, I continued my journey down Route 66, but by the time I caught up with old David again. I had some exciting experiences; here are a few of them as they occurred. There appeared to have been a prophet, Elijah, who spoke a word God closed up the heavens, and it didn't rain for three years. In the meantime, while everyone else was dealing with a drought. God supplied him with a running brook and some birds to feed him. As instructed by God.
As time went on, the brook dried up because of the drought. So, strangely enough, Elijah was told to leave from here and go to another place, where a woman whose husband had died would help sustain Elijah. The full account of this remarkable episode I saw is found on the scale of the map in 1st Kings 17:10-16. But as time went on, another woman had a son who died; that was the maid of her house. Elijah stopped by, and he raised her son from the dead. Wow, what a miracle. Most people just read this and casually move on, but the kid was not breathing. Many have gotten so complacent hearing about three boys put in a fiery furnace, or a lightskinned boy who got thrown in a toilet, and became Governor without an election. But fast-forwarding down this Route 66, let me give you an inside scoop about my next event I want to share. Oddly enough, there was an old prophet named Isaiah 7:14. 14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (KJV) Now if you stroll down the map, you will find a place on it with a pushpin on Matthew 1:21-23. It's in the midst of a lot of other markings, highlights, and underlines, but I'm sure if you search the map you'll find it. It will give you the same experiences, if not better that I had.
But my real thrill was what happened over a horse stable concerning the whole event about this girl they called Mary. Would you believe that while on the journey I saw and heard some amazing things, an large amount of water called the Red Sea. There was a guy named Moses who heard the voice of God say, " Strike the river with the stick in your hand so he did, and the waters on both sides split in the middle and stood up like soldiers at attention, And walls were formed on both sides, and the ground was dry as a bone, with 600,000 Israelite men excluding women and children. The estimated total was 2 million people. Walked past those walls of water without dampness to their feet. However, if you had followed the map down this far to this point, you would know that it was an army from Egypt, along with its king named Pharaoh, trying to kill them. If you didn't follow the map down that far before we got to the story about the Virgin. I suggest you go back to the beginning of the map. It has a road called Exodus. If you think these times are hard and rough today, think about this. Would you believe a king was so terrified of a baby boy that he wanted to assassinate him at birth? Well, I tell you, coming down Route 66, you still have a little valley.
And it's called Matthew 2, and if you travel down Matthew 2, you will find not only who wanted to assassinate the little boy but also the amazing way he would find out where the little boy was, because a star from heaven would shine over his birthplace like a spotlight. Well, on this journey, and following who we come to know as the three wise men, I often wondered why they recall the three wise men. They were called that because they did what a lot of us did not do and do not do today; they adhered to the warning of God, as so noted on the street of verse 12 on the map. Take a look at it for yourself. This journey gets even more intriguing as I continue to walk slowly now on Route 66. The baby in the manger did some astounding things as he became a man. The full account of what he did thickened the map so that it was broken down into four separate parts just about this Man now called Jesus, who, remember, was also called Emmanuel, meaning “God with us”. As well as the amazing things that are unrecorded that he has done in, through, and for you, dear Travelers. This map is a full amount of words of 82,000 in the Four Gospels, with approximately 200 pages combined. That's why I said I will walk down Route 66.
I don't want to miss anything; however, as vast as it is, we can always revisit the journey over and over because we are sure to miss something or see a new adventure each time we explore down Route 66.
Well, let's get back on Route 66. Yes, thank you for traveling with me on my little journey tonight down Route 66. There's so much road we didn't cover because we detoured a lot in our journey down Route 66.
What I learned, among other things, while traveling down Route 66 is that even if you experience some dark, dreary days and it seems like your life is in a whirlwind of things coming at you like a TORNADO, God will provide a way out, no matter how big the problem. God can and will show you the right solution so that mountain is now a molehill.
The actual map of Route 66 is broken down, so you too can travel. down Route 66 without me. So if you want to have your own amazing journey down Route 66 and experience it for yourself, you can, but I must warn you: as you travel this journey down Route 66, you will come across some things that will only happen to you, Now I don't mind sharing the Map with you, so if you decide you want to travel down Route 66, here is the Map. It's the same ROUTE 66 road map that, if you follow it, you will come to a final destination of a place called Heaven.
However, as you travel down this Route 66 now and then, it's ok to pull over like a rest stop. My first rest stop is a little roadside cafe. The sign on the outside says: REPENT. If you see that, you know you're in the right place; you will be met by a very pleasant waiter. On his badge you'll see: Come to me, all who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. His name is Jesus. He'll take you to the table and hand you a menu to make sure you are in the right Rest Stop. At the top of the Menu it should read: FOR ALL HAVE SINNED.ROMANS 3:23. Then, for the appetizers, I find the best 2 choices were the John 3:16 dip and fried fritters of 1st John 1:9, and on to the Main Course. A full serving of Romans 10:9-10. Then wash it all down with the 13th verse.
“The MAP is the Holy Bible” The MAP is the Holy Bible; it contains 66 books divided into two major divisions: there are no shortcuts -1,000 to 1,500 pages in the ROUTE 66 MAP (Old Testament — 39 books) (New Testament — 27 books) Total 66 books- so TRAVELERS, ENJOY YOUR JOURNEY DOWN ROUTE 66 HERE IS A LITTLE TIDBIT:
"When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died. When Seth had lived 105 years, he became the father of Enosh. After he became the father of Enosh, Seth lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Seth lived a total of 912 years, and then he died. When Enosh had lived 90 years, he became the father of Kenan. After he became the father of Kenan, Enosh lived 815 years and had other sons and daughters. Fashion Is Art Fashion is more than fabric, trends, or seasonal colors — it is a living expression of who we are becoming. Every piece we choose carries intention. Every silhouette tells a story. Every detail reflects the quiet evolution happening within us. Art has always been the language of identity, and fashion is one of its boldest dialects. It allows us to paint our confidence, our healing, our discipline, and our faith onto the canvas of everyday life. What we wear is not about impressing the world — it’s about honoring the version of ourselves we are stepping into.
Fashion is art because it transforms. It shapes posture. It shifts perspective. It reminds us that beauty is not accidental; it is created through clarity, courage, and the willingness to show up as the masterpiece God is forming.
In every season, your style becomes a declaration
One Shot Creations is a small, local photography business founded by Cristin Lewis on November 27, 2009. The business was created in honor of a promise she made to her father, who sadly lost his battle with PTSD on March 13, 2016, after serving 22 years in the United States Marine Corps and completing four additional tours overseas in Afghanistan as a contractor. One Shot Creations was named after her father’s nickname, One Shot, which he earned as a sniper in his local motorcycle club.
Cristin taught herself how to operate her camera and use editing software. She has never taken a photography class or received formal instruction in the field.
As a mother of three boys, ages 6 to 17, Cristin began her photography journey by photographing her oldest son. Because of this, families have naturally become one of her favorite subjects to capture.
Cristin's goal has never been to be successful enough to live off her income she earns doing photography. Its simply to be a published scenery photographer. She's already sold calendars last winter and they sold out within the first hour of being available to purchase. Her role model in the photography industry has always been Ansel Adams. From the first time she saw his black and white work she was in love with the subject and said that was going to be her goal.
The mission behind her small business is simply to live one day at a time, but make sure you are truly happy while doing it. Of course also never allow yourself to give up on anything that means something to you! Even if the dream is huge, never stop chasing it.
“Both grand and intimate aspects of nature can be revealed in the expressive photograph. Both can stir enduring affirmations and discoveries and can surely help the spectator in his search for identification with the vast world of natural beauty and wonder surrounding him.” -Ansel Adams
Getting Back to Setting Priorities & Discipline September has a way of calling us back to center. After months of movement, distraction, and shifting schedules, this season invites us to pause, reassess, and rebuild the structure that supports our growth. Discipline isn’t punishment — it’s alignment. Priorities aren’t restrictions — they’re clarity. And when we return to both, we return to ourselves.
Once you answer those questions, you can rebuild your priorities with purpose. Start small. Start real. Start with what strengthens your spirit, your mind, and your future. Create routines that support your calling, not drain it. Protect your time like it’s sacred — because it is. And choose habits that reflect the person you’re stepping into, not the one you’ve outgrown.
The truth is, life pulls. Responsibilities stretch. Unexpected moments scatter our focus. But purpose thrives in order, not chaos. Vision grows when you water it consistently, not occasionally. And the person you are becoming requires intentionality that cannot be left to chance.
Discipline is not about perfection; it’s about consistency. It’s the quiet decision to show up again. It’s the courage to reorder your life around what matters. It’s the maturity to say “no” without guilt and “yes” without hesitation. And it’s the spiritual wisdom to recognize that God blesses what we steward well.
Getting back to discipline begins with honesty: What have I been carrying that doesn’t belong to me? What have I been avoiding that actually matters? What have I been giving energy to that doesn’t produce fruit?
This month, give yourself permission to reset. To reorganize. To recommit. To rebuild the structure that supports your peace, your productivity, and your purpose. September is not just another month — it’s an invitation.

Genesis 37 Gen 37:1 And Jacob dwelt in the land wherein his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan. Gen 37:2 These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives: and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report. Gen 37:3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours. Gen 37:4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him. Gen 37:5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more. Gen 37:6 And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed: Gen 37:7 For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. Gen 37:8 And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words. Gen 37:9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.
Gen 37:10 And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? Gen 37:11 And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying. Joseph Sold by His Brothers Gen 37:12 And his brethren went to feed their father's flock in Shechem. Gen 37:13 And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I. Gen 37:14 And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem. Gen 37:15 And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou? Gen 37:16 And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they feed their flocks. Gen 37:17 And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan. Gen 37:18 And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.
Gen 37:19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh. Gen 37:20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams. Gen 37:21 And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands; and said, Let us not kill him. Gen 37:22 And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again. Gen 37:23 And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him; Gen 37:24 And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it. Gen 37:25 And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt. Gen 37:26 And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood? Gen 37:27 Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content.
Genesis 37 Gen 37:28 Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt. Gen 37:29 And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he rent his clothes. Gen 37:30 And he returned unto his brethren, and said, The child is not; and I, whither shall I go? Gen 37:31 And they took Joseph's coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood; Gen 37:32 And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be thy son's coat or no. Gen 37:33 And he knew it, and said, It is my son's coat; an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces. Gen 37:34 And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days. Gen 37:35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him. Gen 37:36 And the Midianites sold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's, and captain of the guard.
