The Snowball Effect
Mentalillnessnotonlyaffectstheperson withtheissueandeverythingaboutthe individual,butitaffectsthoseinvolvedjustas much.
Herownlifewasinawhirlwindofitself, whileworkingatadistance, Debbiewas contactedaboutalovedoneinAnderson.
Alovedonewalkingdownthestreetwitha macheteintheirhand.Debbiefoundithard tofindsomeassistantsforthematteruntil shecouldarrive.Theresponsewas“ifshehas notharmedsomeoneorherselfthenthereis nothingwecando”.

OncearrivedDebbiehadtocallthepolicebecause thelovedonewouldnotrespondtohervoice. Havingtogobacktowork,Debbieinvolvedothers tocometobehereyesfromacrossthestreetto makesureitwasjustacheck-inandnothingelse.
“Thiscanbealotonapersonbecausethatstartsto wearontheotherperson’smentalhealth.The snowballeffectrollsaddingmuchworryandstress tothemind.
Andspeakingontheword“crazy”andhowitisused soloosely. We’vegottobecomeuncomfortablewith sayingpeoplearecrazyandleavingthemtothe crazy.
BecauseofthisDebbiehassteppedintomany situationstohelpapersonthatisactingina mannerthattheythemselvescannotsee.

Doyouknowwhenyouaredepressed?
Depressionhasmanyfaces,menandwomenare walkingaroundunknowinglydepressed. Tobe depresseddoesn’tmeanthatyouarenot functioning. Itdoesnotalwayslooksad,dark,or isolated.Itaffectspeopleinmanydifferentways somepeoplecanfunctionwellthroughouttheday andthengethomeandcrash.Thentherearesome thatcan’tgetoutofthehouseatallorsomealittle ofboth.
Manyassessments,policies,andproceduresneed tobere-evaluatedandupdatedespeciallysince Covid-19.
Thisdispensationistotallydifferent.Andwe alsohavetobewillingtochangewhatwe alreadyknow,opentolearningsomethingnew.
Thestatsareincorrectbecausepeopleare pretendingtobementallyill,drugaddicts,or diagnosedwithsometypeofillnesstoget assistants.Leavingnoroomforthosethatreally needassistants.Peopleworkinghardeveryday needalittleextrahelpandcan’tgetit.
InClosingwewantyoutoknowthatmental illnessisnotanythingtobeashamedof,weall experienceamomentofuncertainty,depression, anxiety,andstress.Ifwedealwiththosethings, theywon’tleadtomoreintensethings.Seek helpstaymindfulofthethingsthatyouneedand putyourselffirstsoyoucanbebetterforothers. Howcanyoubebetterforsomeoneelseand don’tknowhowtobegoodyourself?Makesure toknowwhatishappeninginyourownlifeand familylife.
