Towards the end of the 19th century, the Khalsi family, renowned merchants, took over its ownership.
In 1933, part of the current restaurant was bought by Abderrahmane Abdelkafi, who turned it into a hotel in 1946.

Zaghouan is located on the site of ancient Ziqua, of which a triumphal gate remains. Zaghouan is a town comprised of steep streets intersected by small squares offering wonderful views over the plain.
The remnants of the aqueduct, built by Emperor Hadrian in 122 to carry water from Djebel Zaghouan to Carthage, are the footholds of Zaghouan.
