Hvor er vi glade for at have dig med os! Med programmet POPDEATHPOWER gentager vi Dansehallerne x Betty: Et strålende samarbejde, som roterer om vores fælles passion for dans og koreografi. Målet er at få dig og alle andre til at se (endnu) mere dans! Midlet er FANTASTISK dans. I år åbner vi ballet med fjerde udgave af hit-formatet New Sh*t – et tilbagevendende halvårligt format, som tager pulsen på, hvad der rører sig i det koreografiske landskab. Gæstekurator af denne udgave er dansk-honduranske Liva Xamanek Lopez. Siden følger et præcist kurateret program, som for os repræsenterer det nyeste og cooleste. Fra Norge: Ultraskarpe Inés Belli, som kaster et feministisk blik på catwalken. Kraftfulde svensk-chilenske Ofelia Jarl Ortega: En taktfast tromme og en fordybelse i komplicerede magtdynamikker mellem mænd. Var Tupac deprimeret? Sådan spørger den engelsk-amerikanske stjernekoreograf Malik Nashad Sharpe. Og så popper de to gigantiske superstjerner Beauty and the Beast aka argentinsk-svenske Amanda Apetrea og islandske Halla Ólafsdóttir forbi Edison for at præsentere en (på alle mulige måder) intim forestilling. Også det vanvittige geni Tesla er her. Hvis du ikke allerede ved det: Edison og Tesla lå i krig med hinanden. Vi har bedt den ligeledes geniale, svenske koreograf Stina Nyberg om at medbringe hans ånd. Lyn kommer til at brage.
Vi har valgt forestillingerne med afsæt i vores fælles forkærlighed for værker, som er nødvendige, og som berører os uanset vores forskellige forudsætninger. For det kan dansen: Kommunikere umiddelbart og direkte fra krop til krop med et universelt sprog, som formidler følelser, stemninger og sætter os i forbindelse med noget, som vi husker eller genkender på et bevidst eller ubevidst plan. Fælles for de fem værker i dette års program er, at de tydeligt trækker på populærkulturen; flere af dem leger med døden; alle forhandler de køn, normer og magt. De VIL os noget, og så er de skabt af stærke koreografer, som aldrig tidligere har været præsenteret i Danmark! Vi supplerer forestillingsprogrammet med artist talks og topper op med DJ’s og sociale rum, hvor vi glæder os over endelig at være sammen – sammen om stor kunst, pop og party. Det er POPDEATHPOWER. Til New Sh*t Vol. 4 præsenteres fem koreografer, som på hver deres måde bruger kroppen til at fortælle historier, der taler til både hjerne og hjerte. Med min kuratering håber jeg, at publikum også vil mærke kunstnernes drive og energi strømme fra scenen.

Med det tilbagevendende halvårlige format New Sh*t tjekker Dansehallerne ind med, hvad der er nyt i det koreografiske landskab. For hver udgave inviteres en yngre gæstekurator til at præsentere et progressivt program af koreografer, som kuratoren ser som morgendagens kunstnere.

BETWEEN CHAINS | af Nora Massisímo & Mia Kingo | 25 minutter I en legemliggørelse af det obskure forhold mellem frihed og begrænsning er seks dansere forbundet via en kæde, som de forsøger at bryde. BETWEEN CHAINS tager udgangspunkt i trinsprog og udtryk fra den kommercielle genre, som blandt andet er kendt fra live shows, film, reklamer, musikvideoer etc. Karakteristisk for genren er en kombination af forskellige populære stilarter til skabelsen af et unikt synkroniseret udtryk, som klæder scenen.
Den kommercielle genre opstod i Los Angeles med inspiration fra Jazz-dans og et ønske om at være mere funky, edgy og lyrisk. Således blev Jazz-funk skabt. Herefter blev et hav af subgenrer kreeret, og de hører nu alle under kategorien Kommerciel. OM KURATOR OG KUNSTNERNE BAG NEW SH*T VOL. 4: LIVA XAMANEK LOPEZ
ANASTASIJA OLESCUKA
Gæstekurator af New Sh*t Vol 4., dansk-honduranske Liva Xamanek Lopez, arbejder som koreograf og kurator med tværæstetiske udtryk og flertydighed i sine projekter. Liva har blandt andet iscenesat performances til museumsinstitutioner og kunsthaller og som en del af Neugeboren Opera Group udviklet nye scenekunstneriske tiltag, der blander opera og dans. Liva er Kandidat i Kunsthistorie med tilvalg i Dansevidenskab fra Københavns Universitet.
Danser, koreograf, underviser og kunstnerisk leder af CLASHcph. Hun er aktiv i streetdanceog hiphop-miljøet og har medvirket i en række forestillinger og teaterforestillinger. I august 2021 var Anastasija aktuel som koreograf af ANTS 1+1=3, en eksperimenterende danseforestilling, der satte krop og bevægelse på myrernes liv og verden. Anastasija er født og opvokset i Riga, Letland og bor nu i København.
ABYA YALA - AFRIK & ARCTURUS To professionelle dansere fra Venezuela med base i Sverige. Gennem 13 år har de turneret rundt i verden med en bred vifte af kunstneriske udtryk, dans og performance. De har sammen udforsket og arbejdet med at forene deres kreative processer gennem de seneste fem år. Afrik og Arcturus er atleter og aktivt konkurrerende i internationale battles, og den energi bringer de med på scenen, når de optræder.
MIA KINGO & NORA MASSISÍMO Mia Kingo har arbejdet som professionel danser i fire år. Hun koreograferede i 2021 udstillingen I AM NOT WHAT YOU SEE på Copenhagen Contemporary og kombinerede der sin erfaring som kommerciel danser med kunstscenen. Mia har desuden samarbejdet med Soundboks, Rudolph Tegners Museum, VEGA og Andersens Contemporary. Nora Massisímo har danset professionelt i 5 år og har blandt andet koreograferet til Danish Music Awards og Zulu Awards. Nora kombinerer sin kreative viden som danser med den kommercielle industri, blandt andet som medvirkende i reklamer for Adidas, H&M og Change Lingerie. I 2020 åbnede hun et agentur for dansere. I 2020 stiftede Mia og Nora desuden STUDIO 20 i København, et dansestudie med fokus på at uddanne kommende kommercielle professionelle dansere.

We’re thrilled to have you with us! With the program POPDEATHPOWER we go for round two of Dansehallerne x Betty: A brilliant, new collaboration that revolves around our shared passion for dance. The goal is to make you see (even) more dance! The vehicle is FANTASTIC dance. This year, we open with the fourth edition of the hit-format New Sh*t – a recurring biannual format that checks in with what’s new in the choreographic landscape. Guest curator of this edition is Danish-Honduran Liva Xamanek Lopez. New Sh*t is followed by a precisely curated program, representing for us the newest and the coolest. From Norway: Ultra-sharp Inés Belli offers a feminist gaze at the catwalk. The powerful Chilean-Swedish Ofelia Jarl Ortega: A steady drum and an immersion in complicated power dynamics between men. Was Tupac depressed? The question is posed by English-American star choreographer Malik Nashad Sharpe. And then the two giant superstars Beauty and the Beast aka Argentine-Swedish Amanda Apetrea and Icelandic Halla Ólafsdóttir pop by Edison to present an (in all sorts of ways) intimate performance. The crazy genius Tesla is here, too. If you don’t already know: Edison and Tesla were at war with each other. We have asked the equally genius, Swedish choreographer Stina Nyberg to bring his spirit. Lightning will strike.
We have chosen the performances based on our common predilection for urgent works that affect us regardless of our different preconditions. For this is what dance is capable of: To communicate immediately and directly from one body to another with a universal language that conveys emotions, moods and connects us to something that we remember or recognize on a conscious or unconscious level. Common to the five works in this year’s program is that they clearly draw on popular culture; some of them play with death; all of them negotiate gender, norms and power. They have things at heart and are furthermore created by strong choreographers who have never been presented in Denmark! We complement the performance program with artist talks and top up with DJs and social formats where we share the joy of finally being together - together for great art, pop and party. BETWEEN CHAINS | Nora Massisímo & Mia Kingo | 25 minutes Six dancers are all connected by one chain. Embodying the obscure relation between freedom & boundedness, they are seeking a way to break through the chain. BETWEEN CHAINS is based on steps and expressions from the commercial genre, which is known from live shows, movies, commercials, music videos etc. It combines various popular styles and creates a unique synchronized expression. The commercial genre originated in
Los Angeles with inspiration from Jazz Dance added a more funky, edgy, and lyrical touch. Thus, Jazz Funk was created. Subsequently, other subgenres were created, and they are now all part of the category Commercial. ABOUT THE CURATOR AND CHOREOGRAPHERS OF NEW SH*T VOL. 4: LIVA XAMANEK LOPEZ
ANASTASIJA OLESCUKA
The guest curator of New Sh*t Vol. 4 is Danish-Honduran Liva Xamanek Lopez, a choreographer and curator who works with cross-aesthetic expressions and ambiguity in her projects. Among other things, Liva has staged performances for museums and art galleries. Furthermore, she is part of Neugeboren Opera Group where she has developed new performing arts initiatives that mix opera and dance. Liva holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Art History with an elective course in Dance Studies (2019).
A dancer, choreographer, teacher, and artistic director of CLASHcph. She is active in the street dance and hip-hop environment and has been part of several dance and theatre performances. Recently, in August 2021 Anastasija choreographed an experimental dance performance, ANTS 1 + 1 = 3, putting body and movement to the lives and world of ants. She was born and raised in Riga, Latvia and now lives in Copenhagen.
ABYA YALA - AFRIK & ARCTURUS Two professional dancers from Venezuela residing in Sweden. They have 13 years of experience in different areas of dance, performances, and other artistic expressions, touring around the world. Together, they have spent five years working, exploring, and uniting their creative processes. Afrik and Arcturus are athletes and active competitors in international dance battles, and they bring that energy to any venue where they perform.
MIA KINGO & NORA MASSISÍMO Mia Kingo has been engaged as a professional dancer for four years. Combining her experience as a commercial dancer with the art scene, she choreographed the exhibition “I AM NOT WHAT YOU SEE” at Copenhagen Contemporary in 2021. Mia Kingo has been collaborating with Soundboks, Rudolph Tegner’s Museum, VEGA, and Andersen’s Contemporary. Nora Massisímo has worked as a professional dancer for five years. She has been choreographing for Danish Music Awards and Zulu Awards. Nora combines her creative knowledge as a dancer with the commercial industry, featuring in commercials for Adidas, H&M and Change Lingerie. In 2020 she opened an agency for dancers. In 2020 Mia and Nora also co-founded STUDIO 20 located in Copenhagen. A dance studio focusing on educating upcoming commercial professional dancers.
