Technical Note – Pt/W Alloy
The Betts Group now uses a modern Pt/W (platinum/tungsten) alloy across our wedding ring range, offering improved hardness, durability and resistance to wear, making it ideal for everyday wedding ring wear. Bright white in colour with excellent finishing and long term appearance retention. Pt/W alloys require a higher heat input during soldering. Standard Platinum Hard solder (1420–1445°C) and Platinum Easy solder (1010–1030°C) are both suitable. For piecing in, please use matching Pt/W 3mm or 6mm square wire. Pt/W 0.3mm laser wire is also available.
Comparing metals by weight
To find the relevant weight of your chosen metal compared to another, simply take the weight of one and follow the line to the left or right of the above table.
Example: if the weight of a ring in 9ct is 8.0g, and you require it in 18ct, start on the left hand side of the table at the 9ct row and follow across to the column headed 18ct, 8.0 x 1.34 = 10.72g.
INTERNAL RING MEASUREMENTS
Internal dimension of D-Shapes and Flats are measured by leading edge, with Courts, Flat Courts, Modern Courts and Oval Courts measured from the centre. Ring production tolerances are 0.3g and 0.3mm.
