Our final JCF workshop for 2023 was held on November 29th in the beautiful parish of Portland, at Hotel Tim Bamboo. The welcome and introduction was conducted by Julene Dixon, Communication Officer in the CAC department. Director of Enforcement Mr. Noel Bacquie provided an overview of the BGLC, he addressed the risks associated with illegal gambling and outlined our forward trajectory. Senior Legal Officer Janice Thomas -Hamilton, alongside Director of Legal Services Karla SmallDwyer, presented on the major offences in the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Act. Director of Licensing and Registration Vivian Nunes gave clarity on the licensing process. Assisting in the workshop were Tifanie Gordon and Shashawny Smith, Investigators in the Enforcement division, Marcia Richardson, Inspector in the Compliance and Regulatory division, and Donna Lewis, Senior Licensing and Registration Officer. The main purpose of these workshops is to educate the JCF on the major offences as outlined in the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Act. We aim to foster collaboration and deeper understanding of the shared responsibilities of the BGLC and the JCF. We recognize that effective enforcement of these laws requires a collective effort. We plan to continue these workshops into 2024, extending our reach to locations such as St. Mary and St. Ann.
Lunch with the Executive Director
Mr. Vitus Evans and staff pose for a picture
The Lunch with the Executive Director initiative is set to extend into 2024. The aim of these luncheons is to provide an opportunity for direct communication between the general staff and the Executive Director. These luncheons serve as a platform for both parties to connect, share concerns, and offer feedback. Additionally, the intimate setting fosters camaraderie among staff members. Beginning January, these luncheons will be a bi-monthly occurrence, providing a consistent forum for interaction. Originally planned as monthly events, we have opted to consolidate celebrations, grouping birthdays for a more substantial gathering. For instance, those with December birthdays will join the January luncheon, and individuals celebrating birthdays in February will be part of the March gathering.

EDIBLE
ANTIDOTE “Ginger” Ginger is a versatile ingredient that adds depth and flavour to various dishes. We use it to enhance the flavour of drinks such a sorrel, we use it in baking and also in curry and stew dishes. It’s warmth complements sweets like gingerbread and cookies. Ginger can be pickled for a zesty condiment, while ginger tea offers a soothing beverage. Explore the culinary world of ginger to elevate your meals with its distinctive taste and aromatic profile. In addition to it’s taste, ginger offers numerous health benefits. It has anti-inflammatory properties, aids digestion, and may reduce nausea. Gingerhas been associated with heart health, as it may help lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Additionally, ginger contains antioxidants that support overall immune function and may help lower blood sugar levels. Incorporating ginger in your diet, whether in teas, as a spice in cooking, or in various culinary forms, can be a flavourful way to harness these health benefits.
